First of all, these are not dukduks. They are called tubuans, dukduks are males, much taller than tubuans and have no set of eyes Infront like the tubuans(females). Originally, tubuans and dukduks originated from ancestors in the New Ireland province, particularly Namatanai. They where summoned first by an elderly female, thus every tubuans has their own significant female name. Tubuans and dukduks represents prestige, power and manhood. Laws of the tubuan society is no different then the laws of today, even though it may differ in one way or the other! There are 3stages according to tubuan law. First you have to be initiated to the TARAIU(men's place only). After that you have to become a man, this initiation is called a NIDOK. After that there is the Matamatam and pupuak rikai to let the public and also the tubuan society will see you and regard you as one of the elders of the tubuan society and have attain every knowledge etc. The tubuan society has its own laws and rules you must follow. This is just a brief description, some are taboo and strictly forbidden to tell outside of the Taraiu.

@@ribatlawrence2890 oh wow thank you very much for your answer. two last questions tho. is it true that woman or girls are not allowed to watch? if so why not. and if they did watch what are some consequences that it is believed to happen to them. and the last question what is puri-puri, always hear that word around a lot. i have always been interested in NGI cultures.
just for personal knowledge thank you, love the culture that's all. :))

@@raiylynmitchell5892 females are allowed to watch...but from a distance. When tubuans and dukduks come out from the Taraiu to perform or during customary occasions, they emerge w spirits of the past, the dead, are being summoned to help protect the tubuans from other beings also who are around to try to destroy or put to test the power of the tubuans. Thus it is taboo that women are not supposed to be near for there maybe be consequences. In addition, it is strictly forbidden for pregnant women to watch or look directly into the tubuans eyes. Puripuri is tok pisin for Black magic or magic in general
