"This is a song about plagiarism. Wasn't our own idea?"
These guys are great!
It’s so English.
I know it wasn't written as such - but this now stands as an awesome tribute to Bowie. Tastefully arranged. One of the best.
@ buzz magister, that's a lovely thought!
The power's that be just don't get it do they! "Merry Christmas Everybody!"
Amazing tribute to equal part David Bowie, Frank Sinatra and even kid rock
Can't believe this is eleven years old, I can remember listening to this way back then
I almost fell off my chair out of sheer amazement when he started singing... This was absolutely gorgeous!!! He sounds alot like Bowie. :)
Totally nailed it.
@@RugNug And he looks like remotely like Martin Freeman.
I LOVE JONTY´S VOICE
I went to their concert in Dublin a couple weeks ago and Jonty Bankes was my favorite member. He has the most gorgeous voice in my opinion, he put so much emotion into this song, and he was the most humbled every time we clapped, he couldn't stop smiling and he really touched me as a person. I just really liked him :)
Saw them in Dublin recently. Brilliant as always but not the same without will and jonty
Could listen to Jonty singing all day, his voice is just so full of emotion
it's amazing the story that this mashup tells. it starts off with life on mars - a person who is unsatisfied with life who is cynical and sees no purpose, moves to a more mature person who is complete with life, then born free, a person who is now complete and relieved of stress who is ready to live life for the better. and then MERRY CHRISTMAS
Life On Mars - Bowie
My Way - Sinatra
For Once In My Life - Stevie Wonder
Born Free - Matt Monro (Andy Williams may covered it too)
Substitute - The Who
Someday I'll Fly Away - Randy Crawford
Actually Stronger the song for the film Born Free was sang and recorded my the late great Matt Monro. Andy Williams may well have covered it though.
plus Merry Christmas Everybody in the style of Mud
Étrange, ce mélange !
@@mrjohnop9657 oh ! thanks, I'll fix it
actually this is my first time to heard those songs from this live show
I'm not good in English so I try my best listen lyrics find what those song original verison was and which really good too!
YuGiong :
Rest in peace Bowie, this is a lovely tribute to him x
Lydia Wakelam well was made 6 years before his death
Never get tired of this arrangement. They're in top form.
One of their best efforts.

I'm going to see them live in less than 48 hours, I am SO EXCITED!!!!!! I really hope they play this song, it is one of my favorites!!!!!
Mate how was it?
The bassist has an amazing voice... Lovin the mash-up at the end... Great Great Britain!!!
It is great to see people who love what they do so well. I return to their page almost everyday to get my douse of Ukulele. Five stars to you all!
"Some day I'll fly away ..." RIP Kitty Lux
one of the best versions of this classic song. What a beautiful voice!
Love the lead singer's voice!!
WOW!!! They were BRILLIANT!!!!! They played this, I almost cried! They played "Fly Me Off the Handel", Shaft; Good, Bad & Ugly themes, and so much more. It was an awesome evening, see them if you can, we drove 4 hrs each way & spent the weekend in Michigan just to see them, worth every minute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The whistle guy is a hero a perfect versatile god gifted talented guy…may God bless him…I just love him….❤️❤️❤️❤️
They are probably... certainly the warmest, simple yet wonderful and overall the best that I've ever seen. You can just feel a connection to these people, even if you don't know them.
One of my favourite pieces by the UOGB. Wasn't done as a tribute, but I think it fits the bill as one a fantastic rendition for a fantastic artist
I first became aware of UOGB through John Atkins, AKA The Ukulele Teacher when he had George Hinchliffe in one of his videos to perform the "Theme From Star Trek". I am thankful I found them, and have been binging on their videos for days now... LOL
I can't listen to these guys without grinning from ear to ear. They help make my sore and damaged spirit soar. John Rooney, Co. Mayo, Ireland.
This is the BEST rendition of Life on Mars. Period!
What an exceptional group of musicians!!!!
Definitely one of the best performances i've ever seen!!!
R.I.P Bowie ❤️
+KevinAckeral oh fuck off
Out of this world. When i first picked up a uke my friends thought i was weird. After they watched this, not so much any more. Thank you.
I love you chap's and chapess's? I once tried to get a couple of tickets to one of your concerts but they had sold out, you are a quality act.
Would pay good money to hear a full cover of The Who’s Substitute in this style, but the whole composition is simply beautiful.
become fully addicted to these men, transforming masterpieces into something even more magnificent...
Eh ... and women?
WA Teamster Videos Ey up pc brigade ere
@@wateamstervideos2332 Too right, each and every member brings something special to the group as a whole. RIP Kitty.
I discovered UOGB last year in one of the lockdowns and I immediately fell in love with these people and their songs. You have saved me from one or the other depressive episode ... And - what can I say - every morning in the home office that I start with a song of yours is the start of a wonderful day. I beg you: Never stop making music! And for God's sake, take Jonty with you to Hamburg next spring! I will come all the way from Stuttgart :-)
Brilliant, and the gentleman singing actually looks a bit like John Simms, from the UK tv show Life On Mars.
Exactly what i though when i first saw him at " the Model " Version .
Indeed. I find it admirable how some folk can do such a smooth transition
October, 2021... and this still has not been paralleled. I suspect it never will.
the ukes add such a special aspect to this song
Wow what a beautiful voice and Beautiful presentation by the team And God send this Legends to Rock the world with their music.🎵🎧🎹🎸🎻🪗🎧🎤🥁
This gives me so much pleasure, turns me on and although I hurt it makes me forget so to this wonderful bunch a huge thank you..saw you in Weston S Mare. Im 76 but still like mast music ..60ts ,rock, punk, jazz etc but these old buggers really do the trick for me. British to the core too a national institution
i find myself listening to you very talented people for hours thank you
Saw them on Glasgow on monday. Adored it. This was my second fav track they did. Jonty is just amazing! Even Bowie can't sing it like this any more.
Dayum. That guy's voice is amazing....
"Someday I'll fly away..." R.I.P., Kitty
I think I like this version even more than the original. I agree I'd in many ways like to hear the song strait up without the mixing, but the melange is well done. Also, there is a story about Bowie using the melody from "my way" even though Sanatra said no, or so I have heard. At any rate, a great cover by a great group of performers.
Hmm, don't know about that. Paul Anka wrote the words and basically swiped the melody from a 1967 French song, Comme d'habitude. On the other hand, I guess Frank could say anything he wanted to say. Glad Bowie apparently ignored him.
Alex Hardy Bowie was tasked with writing English lyrics to the melody (thereby renaming it "Even a Fool Learns to Love"), but this effort was rejected. Later it ended up with Paul Anka and Frank Sinatra to be rewritten as "My Way". Bowie was not pleased about this, and went about writing "Life on Mars" in response. Hence, "Inspired by Frankie" appears on the Hunky Dory liner notes next to the "Life on Mars" track title.
@@Dellaluna13 Exactly! Preferred if they just kept in LOM and MW or else added the French song; then it would have been an inside joke for us that know the story
My god, this is perfection.
Rest in Peace, David Bowie :'(
Best example of how Humor + Skills upsurge your identity.
I saw them at The Sage, Gateshead as few weeks ago. It seems Jonty now plays a real bass ukulele, rather than the acoustic bass he plays in this video. They did this song and brought the house down. Unfortunately Jonty can't quite sing the high notes the same anymore, but still brought the house down!
I love his voice. Don't you? I love when he says: It's the freakiest show ♥
I love it.... It makes my day. Jonty has such a beautiful voice.
This is one of the most amazing thing that i've ever listened. I hope i get a chance to listen them close.
Marvellous musical performance and the satire is too good to believe.
Excellence with humour, we recently saw them in PA, USA and they were amazing. They are coming to Cheltenham UK, in the next few weeks... Worth every penny or cent!
He has such a good voice!
Thank you for all David! Rest in peace my hero! 😢❤
the guy singing is just living his best life.
They get better and better.
Outstanding! Nice that they blend in "My Way" which is one of the original inspirations for "Life On Mars". Frankie would approve...
This lot are brilliant I could watch and listen fo ever!!! So uplifting.......
I was turned on to the Group Last night...their creativity has captured me, Bravo, Bravo, Bravo
this version reminds me of when I have 6 tabs open in my browser and commercials start playing on all of them at the same time.
Philip Frank same
Is that a compliment or an insult?
hahahahaha same feeling
Make sure you rest your tongue between windows
lol
NO! That was my thought the minute I saw this video!! Amazing!!!
I so wish the UOGB would do a piece where Jonty and Hester sing a harmony together :) It'd make a cracking Christmas present Grommit
Again I am speechless. So only one word. Brilliant. Thanks to the UOOGB
i love this version, great voice
Brilliant performance. How do the guys concentrate on their own lyrics when counter singing ?!
This version made me realise how brilliant this song is. And I know it sways opinion, but I think his voice suits it amazingly.
This is fucking awesome.
+asad mohammed ... Oh, my heart. It is so sweet, it's almost other-worldly.
+WhoWhat Where Don't exaggerate that much. We all enjoy his music but that's a little too much...
I regard the settled first team as :-
Dave Suich
Peter Brooke Turner
Hester Goodman
George Hinchliffe
Richie Williams
Will Grove-White
Jonty Bankes
Leisa Rea
The last of these to join was Leisa Rea in 2003 according to the web site (or 2006 according to Wikipedia) and she was presumably one of the reserves until relatively recently.
But I would like to know what the mechanism is for deciding the line up because obviously there are times when one or two are not in the line up but they do always return.
How does it work? There must be a squad of maybe 11 or 12 to call upon for the 8 places.
I've watched countless UOGB vids, and I must say that I loved them all. Except for this one.
@Destination3G Jonty is the bassist who's singing. Found out who they all were from watching all the clips on here and reading comments and its on their website (not that I like them too much lol). From left: David Suich, Peter Brooke Turner, Hester Goodman, George Hinchliffe, Kitty Lux, Will Grove-White and Jonty Bankes. The other guy who normally sits inbetween George and Kitty is Richie Williams .
They are just great!
Still my favorite version of "Life on Mars"
Far out, who thought to arrange this and how... impeccably executed! Kudos to these marvelous musicians, and to whomever took the time & care to share, and my thoughtful friend, for sending me.
This just gave me epic goosebumps!
@paulspalace I think I read Bowie was working on a translation of the French song "Comme D'Habitude", but abandoned it, then Paul Anka put out his version, "My Way", after which Bowie responded by writing "Life on Mars", inspired by the song. The piano part of "Life on Mars" is by Rick Wakeman.
The guy doing the 'For Once In My Life..' break looks like Peter Serafinowicz playing the part of Richard Osman.
Seriously though very good, I'm impressed.
INCREDIBLE! Musical satire! LOVE IT!
This is just SO much fun.... and yet the ability to have two or three different tunes going on at the same time is amazing.
Wow I wasn't expecting this arrangement, it's amazing!
I've always loved your covers though, you guys always put an original spin to it.
just stunning......the amount of work they must have put in to get this all to gel.....it's pure joy to listen to
I hope Sinatra and Bowie are Jammin in another life!!
Even heaven couldn't hold that much awesome
Just beautiful. I love you guys so much. So very talented.
so nice to hear someone making great music again !
So 5 years ago I found this and commented how great Hestair and Jonty's harmony sounded. I'd add now that Dave's voice complements it even more :) So pleased to see the Ukes doing so well, so deserved and so pleased to have seen them live over the years. Keep it up Grommit :) :)
Kitty is sadly missed. RIP.
They are so awesome, and even better live!
And yes, he does look like sam tyler.....
I was at Edinburgh too. They were brilliant there. Fantastic how they turned a crowd of sceptics to their side.
Love it, next time I am in London from Down Under I will love to come to your concert
I stumbled upon this a couple of years ago whilst looking for the alternative ending to the BBC TV series 'Life on Mars' It has led me to such obscure locations as Llandudno and Warwick to catch the 'Ukes' But every now and then I just have to return to this clip on CZcams, their classic and unique interpretation. Thanks guys!
loveloveloveloveloveloveLOVE!!
Total joy as they are live in concert. Blissful music
The BEST line up, and in their prime! Love the UOGB.
Class is rarely purer!
The bloke singing must be tiny. His ukulele looks massive on him!
William Johnson That's a bass canard...
+DrDespicable No, it's a ukulele canard ! There are several size of ukes, this one called Baryton size ! Other are sopranos.
+William Johnson you made me lugh good sir.
+William Johnson hahahahhahaha
William Johnson made my day!
Miss Bowie, but Bowie walks among us. All hail Bowie! Thank buddy.
I will always remember the singer as the one who cracks up at good bad and ugly music
Insanely talented bunch. Lookin forward to seeing them again next month :-)
Fabulous . . .
brilliant, a pleasure to watch....
ok - that made me cry with how good it was. need to see these guys
...my favourite song and this excellent group - such an energy! Vivat.
