  • Los Angeles actor Tyrin Turner here speaks to VladTV about the chain of events that led to him landing the role of Caine in "Menace II Society," and the group of actors and musicians he worked with on the film, among them Jada Pinkett, Too Short, and 2Pac. Pac, Turner says, read for a part in the movie but wasn't happy with his character. "2Pac came into the reading. We all started rehearsing and in the middle of it 2Pac was like, 'Man, I can't get into this character.'" Get the full story above.

It was not in his DNA to do some watered down version (in his thinking) of a Muslim. Even in his song "I AINT MAD AT'CHA", the lyrics show a friend who can't understand why his lil' homeey STOPPED the druggin' and thuggin' once he becomes MUSLIM. Whether PAC agreed with certain ideologies is unclear, but HE HAD A PROFOUND RESPECT FOR BLACK LIBERATION MOVEMENTS that raised the CONSCIOUSNESS of black people. So, if this interview is valid, apparently, it was eating at the SOUL of PAC to portray a Muslim in such a LUKEWARM light.

      Except that the character was a minor character, which rarely ever get developed on screen. Sounds like he was upset that his role wasn't one of the starring roles. Its not like 2pac was a legend yet at that point in time to be able to be making too many demands.

      Not sure a back story for a secondary character would work. They'd need to shoot extra footage that would essentially make the film overlong. Better that Tupac took a starring role as opposed to a supporting one. Put of the beauty in narrative is to let the audience make their own mind up sometimes. However that character came to be where he is or was, should, in my opinion, be left to the viewer. If a story has to be spoon-fed to an audience, than it's more than likely going to be a wee bit wack.....

    M.C. Eight nailed it... That was 100% accurate.. You can hear how passionate he was about what he said... Tyren didnt have the full story and that's why he hesitates and stutters...Tupac wanted to be professional about it but to be disrespected by the producer was another thing... Tupac realized that if he didn't come back on some gangsta, then his reputation would be tainted and he took the bait... Tupac was 110% accurate for wanting the producers to tell Shareef's story... Many black men who turn Muslim, have a story of finding truth beyond genocide and Shareef's story needed to be told... Instead, Shareef's father (Charles S. Dutton) didn't even understand his son's choice... Tupac wanted there to be a positive message to leave the black audience with hopes of a way out of genocide and Shareef's story could have provided that.. R.I.P. Tupac.

      @@LadyQInspires cuz tbh pac was a fiend for animosity after he bacame famous and rolled with death row he put the gangster image in his head to much and started acting out as a 'thug' when he had all the power but not before when someone in the streets could've humbled his ass down thats why biggie and pac are 2 different vibes 😂

      I get it. He was the lead in that movie and then you have PAC making demands for a character that is just a supporting cast member. I love Pac but I don’t get why he wanted Shareef to have a back story when the story wasn’t about him. It was about Tyrin’s character. I can see if Tupac was suppose to play ODog then I could understand him maybe wanting a back story because ODog was Cane best friend and had more of a presence in the movie than Shareef .

      @kavaniawilson860 Před 3 lety +2

      No he wanted his character to have more of a backstory which it didn’t really make sense. PAC was suppose to play Shareef and Shareef was just a supporting cast member. All we needed to know was he was an ex gangster turned Muslim. Why he became Muslim was not that important because cane was the main character

    Tupac said it himself " I'm not going to play character that doesn't exist" and it's true what Mc said atleast show a reason why he went Muslim cause in my point of view it's like saying a jevoh witness chilling in house parties with a bunch of gangsters rolling dice doing drugs etc..... never seen it....
