  • Agave tequilana, commonly called blue agave or tequila agave, is an agave plant that is an important economic product of Jalisco, Mexico, due to its role as the base ingredient of tequila, a popular distilled beverage. The high production of sugars named agavins, mostly fructose, in the core of the plant is the main characteristic that makes it suitable for the preparation of alcoholic beverages.

why don't they extract agave fibers from those pointed sword like leaves that they whittle off from the root balls. they can make very fine clothes from them.

How was Tequila made before? What were the ingredients?

Same way as today except large scale production uses modern technology. The limited reserve production run brands that are aged for many years use the traditional low tech methods. Like all Jack Daniels are not produced the same way. In order for it to be called pure tequila only agave can be used nothing else

@@yeagerxp in addition on Agave tequiliana Weber Blue or Agave Weberi can be used to make tequila and there are specific states in Mexico where it must be grown to be called Tequila. Otherwise it’s just Agave spirit

Tequila is the result of a traditional indigenous drink but distilled in the European way. The perfect blend!

Plant, and let it turn sunlight into sugar. Harvest, and turn sugar into alcohol.
