  • Normally I talk about mushrooms on this channel but these plants are just too cool to not make a short video about. This is the dragon lily, scientifically called Dracunculus vulgaris. This perenneal soft and hearty plant is originally from Greece and Italy, but grows well here in the Pacific Northwest of the US. It emits a deathly smell from the flower to attract pollinators, flys, who spend time exploring the massive purple flowers and cross pollinating the plants. These grow from a bulb and can be easily transplanted. They are poisonous, so keep the kids and dogs from chewing on them. These particular flowers pop up and bloom every June at my house.
Hope you enjoyed the video and I hope you stick around for some fungi videos too!
