    Yes, you are very correct.
The Benins at a time conquered the V/Island by the help of the Portuguese who were the principal slave traders.
V/Island was conquered by the Portuguese/ Benin to to facilitate the smooth transition of the slaves through Badagry seaport.
The island was a farming village for the Aworis and their neighboring Ogus now called Egun.

This Prof.failed to highlight the role of Oranmiyan in the establishment of Obaship in Bini. It should be noted that Yoruba was the language of Bini palace till 1931. Mr. Fasugba needs to visit a historian on this. I recommend Professor Oyeweso of Osun State University. He was in LASU for many years, and he has done a lot of work on Lagos .

Mumu, Omonoyan (Orominyan) was once an Oba of Benin and we wholeheartedly embrace our prince. Do you agree he is a Benin son? Yoruba language was in Benin Palace till 1931? Ok nau. What else? Ikpaya, Omoale, mumu, ozuo!
Nowhere you can turn history, it will not work for you, especially you small children.

According to Yoruba cultural custodian, the Oni Oba Adeyeye, the Aworis originated in Ife. Before they departed from IFE the Ifa divination, instructed them to cast Awo into the river during their voyage. Their new home {Lagos State} would be where the Awo sank, signifying "Awo rii." Fashugba, to confirm this account, should contact the Oni of Ife.
