They collect numerous materials including deep slate, netherite, and sand to construct the cube and its mount, using certain in-game tactics to speed up the resource gathering. The speaker then designs, builds, and tests a number of redstone mechanisms, like a 3X3 spiral door based on Mr. Cube 6's design, and a red stone elevator. When the base is complete, the speaker reveals it to Mr. Cube 6, who is overwhelmed and delighted with his new cube themed home. As a prank, the speaker jokes that the base is also rigged to blow up.

The observer was oriented differently because you were building it at a different orientation than the tutorial, which practically means nothing but makes some textures a little different.
