  • Today's parable is in Luke 16:1-9, the dishonest manager. Do you know someone dishonest? Well, they may be called shrewd for their underhanded dealings, but they are in no way wise. For one day, they will be thirsty and search for what will give them grace and peace and life everlasting. The only things we can take with us are the things we gave away.
A closer look: Go ahead and do as you please, shrewdly (not wisely) being dishonest and getting "ahead" in this life. Earthly "toys," money, partying, etc., soon fade away as soon as, say, you are hungry or thirsty. Well, this world can 'feed" you, at least for a while, but only God has command over water. Why do you think it is referred to as "Living Water" in God's Gospel? Because without it, we can't survive! To me, this difficult parable is saying we may think we are shrewd by the wealth our dishonesty affords us (no pun intended). But God knows we will have a different perspective when we are humbled and thirsty, seeking His Living Water. Without this precious God-made nourishment and "fuel" for our body, we simply cannot live. And without following His laws, His ways, of being righteous and virtuous ~ which are a long way from being dishonest, we will not have eternal life.
Today's chores are enjoying the beauty God's rain brought! Cleaning and changing the hummingbird feeders and I would like to do some deadheading, especially on the butterfly bushes. It is too wet to weed ~ I am thankful, Lord, for the wonderful rain!
Today's host plants are the wild bergamot and bees, black-eyed Susan, yellow coneflower, phenomenal lavender, butterfly bush, weeping butterfly bush, early sunflower, giant purple hyssop, and blue vervain. Thank you, Lord, for your precious living water You rained down!!
If there is one sermon everyone should listen to, it is this one, • Pastor Loran Livingsto... ~ by Pastor Loran Livingston, from Central Church of God, in Charlotte, NC. He has recently gone viral with a short clip of a sermon, but this one, with the theme, "How far behind are you following," is a perfect message for each person to hear, especially a Christian! I encourage you to listen and, perhaps listen again. I am keeping this one on speed-dial!
Would you like to share His Gospel with others? Then I will eagerly support and encourage you! Start by praying and see where you go! Revelations 3:7b, What God opens, no man can shut, and what God closes, no man can open! When we are standing before such a mighty God as this, and His Holy Spirit will be with us, guiding and directing us, we will not fail! Harvesting for God can simply be reading His Holy Word and/or offering personal experiences or wisdom you have learned and earned through your life. Or it could be as creative and imaginative as God sends you ~ maybe even a garage band creating "Garage Gospel"! Remember, benefits are out of this world, in paradise! God bless you, my friend!

Good morning Beverly, blessings to you sister, people need to get some oil for their lamp,, before it's too late, and they need to get it from Jesus, no other oil will work but what Jesus offers, praise God hallelujah sister I have 32 days without smoking cigarettes, it's a miracle, thank you for sharing the word of God, thank you for a humble translation, I love you sister

Amen, Amen, my dear brother! You are so right about keeping our lamps filled with oil! Lord, we pray you will help us and keep us ever mindful of how our lamps can become too low if we are not ever vigilant and watching everything we do and that the world influences us with! We pray Your Holy Spirit will be with us constantly, seeking to keep our lamps filled! Amen! Amen! I am so glad to hear you have passed the one-month mark on your cig-free journey, Norm! What a great accomplishment and show of strength and mindset, my kind brother! God is with you ~ can you feel Him?! Thank you for your testimony and example to others trying so hard to do the same thing, Norm! Personally, I would love to see a cig-free world! I know others are struggling with their dependency and wish they weren't tied to ANYthing, much less something that affects others (smoke) and personally (money, their lungs, etc.) So I know what a great impact you will have on the world, and more specifically, your community! Those who knew you were a smoker will take notice! Perhaps they will say, "If he can, I can!" God bless you, Norm! I love you, my brother in Christ! Stay kind and ever vigilant to doing His will! Amen!

@@ATouchOfTheSun no we cannot live without water, I have never personally drank enough water, I have recently started buying sugar free flavored water packs, to mix with my water, God bless you Sister, it's sunny and 89°, I just got back from another walk, my usual 450 steps, down the road and back, I think it's close to a half a mile, all together, praise God you got some rain, I need some bees, some pollinators, the sourwood tree is blooming, the cantaloupe is blooming, I need something to pollinate, the cantaloupe so I can get fruit, I'm going to wipe the sweat off, and have a glass of water, let me ask another nosy question, do you have children? I've never been married, but I have a son that's 40 years old, he has mental health problems, he drinks liquors smokes marijuana, but he says he is saved, he hears things people nobody else hear, he see things nobody else sees, he truly believe someone planted a device in his head, of a dream manipulation and torture, he talks to people all the time, he says they're talking to him on that device, maybe someone use them for, a guinea pig, homemade drug experimentation, maybe he's demon possessed, God bless you Sister, may the good Lord bless you and your family, pray for my son, his name is Josh Hamby, he's 40 years old, he lives over in Dawson county with his mother, he's never been away from home, may the good Lord bless you

That is so true Bev. He is saying JUST THAT. He is saying the people of this world who reject God know how to deal with others of their own kind. I only wish I could make some people see this. They believe they are the only thing they have. We should not be shrewd except to be able to tell one of His own vs one of satan's kind. God gave us brains to figure out things, I believe we were made like God in the aspect of our minds and hearts. God has emotions. He never fails to show His love. How much more can one do to show love than to die for them.
Non Christians often say but Jesus did not have to do anything. He knew He would rise from the dead. Yes of course He did. ONLY to because He had to prove to the disciples and the world that HE really was God.
In the Book of Josephus, not a Bible book but a history book written by one Josephus at the time of Christ. He chronicled the rise and fall of Rome and the life of Jesus. God bless you Bev. You are teaching others about His great glory. AMEN!

I am so in love with God, as He sees me through to do things I find impossible. Amen?! Amen!! I honestly could not understand this parable, and I think it could still have some thoughts added to it, but when I prayed for God's understanding, I started thinking about His Living Water. I know for SURE from this parable, that I, as a Christian, will not be dishonest (but that is probably what got the manager dismissed in the first place), and crooked. I'm sure those who are do not think of the Son of Man (Light) will continue on in a dishonest way until God's Living Water is not so available anymore. THEN and only THEN will it occur that there is more to this world than just them (as you so thoughtfully point out in your notes). I can see the dishonest ones steamrolling merrily along, happy they are "in control" of many things. But the second the water faucet runs dry, they are faced with reality. And it will be hard to continue on, fraudster or not, without that precious drink of water. To hell they will go, those who demand others' water so they may live another day, when the ones who had water are the ones who keep their cup full ~ at all times! I have never heard of the Book of Josephus ~ I will have to check it out. God bless you,, my sister! I love you!

@@ATouchOfTheSun Have mercy! Lord you are a tough one. God has mercy on even the worst sinners should they repent. I hope I can do something close to that. The one thing we cannot do that God does, it forget. He not only forgives but He forgets. When I was praying as a child I always asked forgiveness for something I perceived to be a sin. Mistakes are not sins. Sins are committed on purpose. Mistakes are because we are human and fallible. I thank God for you Bev.
