  • Thanks to all of you who support me on Patreon. You da real mvps! $1 per month helps!! :) / patrickjmt !! Special Right Triangles in Geometry: 45-45-90 and 30-60-90 degree triangles.
In this video, I discuss two special right triangles, how to derive the formulas to find the lengths of the sides of the triangles by knowing the length of one side, and then do a few examples using them!

@amjPeace yes, for a right triangle, it is possible to have two sides of length 3 and 4, and the hypotenuse length 5 since those satisfy the pythagorean theorem:
    3^2 + 4^2 = 5^2
the numbers 3, 4, 5, are sometimes referred to as a 'Pythagorean Triple' because of this. There are others of course! For example:
    5 ^ 2 + 12 ^ 2 = 13 ^ 2
so that 5, 12, 13 are another 'Pythagorean Triple'

Oh yes! I remember now! We were taught to recognize when a triangle was a multiple of a 3-4-5.
    For instance 6^2+8^2=10^2.
And 9^2+12^2=15^2. What a blast from the past!
And I had completely forgotten about 5-12-13 triangles.
