Mary, Crown Princess of Denmark, Countess of Monpezat, R.E. (Mary Elizabeth born 5 February 1972) is the wife of Frederik, Crown Prince of Denmark. Frederik is the heir apparent to the throne, which means that should Frederik succeed, she will automatically become Queen of Denmark.
The couple met at the Slip Inn, a pub in Sydney when the prince was visiting Australia during the 2000 Summer Olympics. Their official engagement in 2003 and their marriage the following year was the subject of extensive attention from Australian and European news media, which portrayed the marriage as a modern "fairytale" romance between a prince and a commoner.
Mary Elizabeth Donaldson was born the youngest of four children to Scottish parents, Henrietta (née Horne), an executive assistant to the vice-chancellor of the University of Tasmania, and John Dalgleish Donaldson, a mathematics professor. Her paternal grandfather was Captain Peter Donaldson (1911-1978).
She met Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark at the Slip Inn during the 2000 Summer Olympics on 16 September in Sydney. He was not identified by her friends as the Crown Prince of Denmark until after they met. They conducted a long-distance relationship by phone, email and letter and Frederik made a number of discreet visits to Australia. On 15 November 2001 the Danish weekly magazine Billed Bladet named Mary as Frederik's girlfriend.
Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik married on 14 May 2004 in Copenhagen Cathedral, in Copenhagen.

East or West, the feeling in India is that, by far, they are the very best royal couple Fate and destiny and their past karmas brought them together. Otherwise, how does one explain that they were from the furtherest points, 16,000 miles from the opposite sides of the globe and each having their own agendas. How does one meet? One, a Royal Crown Prince and the other just a commoner. She has done the Danish Royal family proud and is most loved by her mother in law, Queen Margarethe II of Denmark. Like her, Mary is also very highly educated and is the family's pride and joy. She also by now, speaks fluent Danish, perhaps described as s 'terrible' language to learn perhaps, one of the hardest. Don't forget, she is an Australian by birth. She will be given a rapturous welcome should she ever be invited to India. Truly, she is a fairy tale princess, and will soon be the Queen of Denmark, the land of Hand Christien Andersen!!!!

Mary and Frederik live an ordinary middle class lifestyle , behind Palace Walls They bring up their own children and Live as a family.He cooks breakfast etc..They mix with all kinds of people.Frederik is quiet and shy . and left to himself , would have not chosen to be Crown Prince or King. He likes helping disadvantaged children to climb rope ladders, opening a Lego Education centre for special needs children etc.. The two TV Documentaries show Mary and Frederik as they really are, as people-- nothing like the British Royals , who are far more formal , distant, and cut off from the people. Catherine and Sophie do their best, but they are the only exceptions.
Frederik and Mary can do the formal Royal bits when required. His mother by contrast was once very good, but now , all she seems to like is dressing up in brightly coloured clothes, doing formal Royal activities , being cheered by the public etc. She even pushed Frederik and Mary back on their Engagement Day on the Balcony at Amalienborg.Her husband and sons come 3rd and 4th on her priority list , and the Prince virtually left her long before his death , and moved to France. She cancelled Mary's one public gala dinner for her 50th birthday, yet had not one, bujt 4 lunches and dinners for HER 50th Jubilee as Queen. She is clearly jealous of Mary's popularity in Denmark and the world. Something has clearly gone very wrong. Even her sister could not spend Christmas with her own family , and had to go alone to Marseilburg for Christmas with her selfish sister.--Sad.

I have a comment to make regarding a story I read regarding Princess Mary and Princess Benedict’s who stated Mary was treated like Hollywood royalty and Mary spent too much money on her wardrobe and Princess Mary should be more like Queen Ingrid who was Benedicte’s mother. Queen Ingrid supposedly wore the same clothes repeatedly. Well I see Mary do lots and lots of creative redo’s with her wardrobe, let’s give Princess Mary some credit, she’s the best thing that ever happened to Denmark!! Princess Benedict’s needs to move to wherever Marie and Joachim moved to and they can all be miserable together. There’s no room in Denmark for meanies like Benedict’s, Marie and Joachim!! Tak!!!

Yet in his speech at Frederik and Mary's wedding , he comes over as a quiet , calm, dignified person . He met his second wife , the novelist, Susan Horwood , whilst he was Professor or Applied Mathematics at Oxford Her mother had a top job at Hobart University . .Mary gets her calmness and humility from them.

Plus the Danish Royal House Forum or something like that it is called translated the wedding speeches by Frederik, the Queen and Prince Henrik. Hope that helps.
