29 years later, and I've finally come to the realization that this was a great song! What rock was I under in summer of 1993 when this was popular on the radio? I dunno... busy working 12 hour days, and still listening to 60's and 70's music I suppose. Well, better late than never.
I have experienced the same effect. Some songs I felt were played out before I appreciated them. Then they come on the radio and I suddenly they sound amazing.
In 2008, I was moving from Tennessee to Alaska, driving my Mustang with my dog across the continent -- a great joy in my life. This song came on the radio in Iowa. It's been my inspirational theme song about big events in my life ever since. I fired up my video camera and sang along.

I think therapists are mostly quacks (not all!). There wouldn’t be so many relapses if they were all-knowing wise people. I think music is better than therapy because you get a message without needing insurance, or even the intended interpretation, you decide to apply that message however you need to, and you help yourself... which is what therapy is supposed to do for you. So I agree with you.

McCabe Inkworks Wow man I been sayin that for atleast a decade now. In 10 years when all that happened in the 90's comes full circle, they'll talk about it like it was the 60's.
actually the greatest music ever made comes from the 60s and 70s. the 90s was more of a refined version of the 80s which was a decade of a whole lot of crap. A lot of great music came from the 80s and 90s but there was sooooooo much crap in those 2 decades it takes a lot more digging to sift threw the garbage.
Who's here because a crippling addiction to opiates literally destroyed their life and listening to songs about addiction somehow makes you feel a bit better about it.
As a guitarist not only do you appreciate bad ass shredding from guys like Eddie Van Halen and what not, but also songs like this that are the same 4 chords the whole way through that never change up once but still make a great song
Still the g.o.a.t. of alt rock songs. For yall that dont know, my man os being as honest as anyone could be. This is a painful insight into the life of someone who chases.
Sometimes I wanna take you down Sometimes i wanna get you low Brush your hair back from your eyes Take you down let the river flow Sometimes i go and walk in the street Behind a green sheet of glass A million miles below the feet A million miles a million miles I'll be with you girl, like being low Hey hey hey Like being stoned x2 A million poppies gonna make me sleep Just one rose that knows your name The fruit is rusting on the vine The fruit is calling from the trees Hey dont you wanna go down Like some junky cosmonaut A million miles below the feet A million miles a million miles I'll be with you girl. I like how this is cryptic enough it can have multiple meanings. For example, the first verse makes me think of sex with a squirter (let the river flow), though it could very well mean the push. In the song he also relates the color of her eyes to the infinite beauty of the earth (a million miles a million miles). I'm a heroin addict, clean for about a year, so I can totally get those references as well. I personally see the song using those references as more of a love for a person, and of course the intimate relationships between addicts, but could also be for the love of the drugs themselves. Very well done.
opiates and heroin are often depicted by a mistress who you love and just cant let go, even though you swear you would never cheat on your partner who you love more than anything
Listening again like i always do. Ive been there. Not having to worry about chasing or being sick far outweighs the high. I hope youre staying strong! It gets easier

Fun Fact: When I was a kid in the '90s and first heard this song, I honestly thought it was Tom Petty (RIP) who sang this song.
He does sound similar to him now that I think about it
I always thought that my whole life till like a few months ago and I'm in my 30's
I thought the same thing lmao
I can hear Tom petty in this
It sounds nothing even close to tom petty ! Why would you think that ?
when i was little i used to think "stoned" meant like being stoned with rocks. lol
haha same!
Melanie V I thought he was saying, "Like being slow!" Looks like we were all wrong hehe :P
Blakep1991 oh my god yeah! It does also sound like he is saying that lol
He says "like being stone" as in frozen or petrified.
Lotta people think its "stoned" though so no matter where you look, the lyrics say "stoned". Sounds cooler I guess 😏

a trail of clues leads back ... on David Bowie's album "Low", one song refers to a certain cosmonaut hitting an all-time low.
