A supernatural period drama based on the novel by Seishi Yokomizo, which portrays the revenge of Amakusa Shirō, who rises from the dead with deep sorrow and intense hatred. Yumi Kaoru and Matsumoto Kōshirō's forbidden romance is a precious highlight of this production.
During the reign of the 11th shogun, Ienari Tokugawa, a series of supernatural incidents occur every night in the Edo Castle's Ooku. A beautiful inspector appears with thunder and lightning to suck people's blood and kill them. The examiner's true identity is Amakusa Shirō (Tamura Masakazu), a young samurai from the Amakusa clan that was destroyed by the harsh Christian persecution of the shogunate. Shirō sold his soul to the devil and became an evil spirit. After 160 years since destruction of Amakusa, his revenge to overthrow the Tokugawa shogunate begins. As part of the conspiracy, Shigeko (Kasam Kazumi), the young consort who recently entered the palace in Kyoto, is killed, causing chaos in the Edo Castle. Meanwhile, Kotoe (Yumi Kaoru), a maid who bears a striking resemblance to Mio (Yumi Kaoru), the lover who died in Shirō's arms, appears before him...

I really enjoyed this movie. The actor playing the Vampire is most interesting, I have seen him in other movies. His quiet and remote characterizations in the roles he plays is very effective. A almost other worldly air he brings.

So we're all seeing the Dracula parallels here, and I'm not crazy, right? Shiro is Dracula (complete w/ vampire 'brides'), Kotoe and Princess Kagero are Lucy & Mina (except in the "hold me" scene w/ Omiyo), Akenosuke is Jonathan Harker, Ranke Tori is Van Helsing? They even use Kantokuji Temple to set scenes from Carfax Abbey and Dracula's home in Transylvania. I imagine I may be stating the obvious here, but just in case.

The only samurai movie about the supernatural I have watched is called Samurai Reincarnation, starring Sonny Chiba. I thought it is the only samurai supernatural movie in Japan until I saw this. Masakazu Tamura as the suave seductive dracula is the perfect choice for this role. He kick ass as usual in this one, as in his other samurai works.
I found out the story(the vampire inspector) written by seishi yokomizo.
It was the seishi yokomizo who wrote the stories about the vampires🧛.
And he wrote the book📘of the death's head stranger(dokuro-kengyo)in 1970.
One and his books📘 have become films.

The inspector played as Nemuri Kyoshiro and though he was the second actor I saw play as the character he made the role uniquely his own and I’ve been looking for more of his work and stumbled upon this. Another phenomenal performance.
its a sad , vengeance and poignant tale of a man who driven by vengeance itself until he met a way of redemption by his former lover in the past who is look a like in the future, that help him to be back to God. the main actor really play his role well in this. look forward to his play even more in the future.
