YES, I was told before I heard this song that Floor does the growl 😂 There’s a reason I did this version, for anyone who’s a performer…playing in a smaller venue is a much bigger challenge to sound good and create a responsive crowd, and this was beautifully done. You can also hear everything.🤘❤️💚💙

For some more pleasant surprises, you might wanna check out the "Beste Zangers" goldmine. It's a treasure trove of all things Floor! I reckon Nova has already seen it, but if she didn't just drag her into your studio for a reaction à deux! I'll try to keep this short (failed, obviously..) and post a follow-up with all the necessary links. Okay so this is about songs that were first performed by Floor during the legendary 2019 edition of the Dutch TV show, "Beste Zangers".
In English, this translates into "Best Singers" but it can also be taken as "Dear Singers", as in a written invitation. That's what the show is about. No competition or anything. Just accomplished singers gathered together in an intimate setting far from home (this was filmed on Ibiza, if I'm not mistaken). Each episode is dedicated to one of the singers. The other ones perform songs that have a special meaning for the singer at the centre of attention.
What's so nice abt Floor in that show was that most of the other singers didn't know her. She was that "metal chick" and not well known in the mainstream. Most of the Dutch television audience didn't know much about her either. That was about to change dramatically. In short, she blew all of them away, singing in German, Dutch, English and Spanish.
From the get-go, she set the bar so high that the others stepped up their game and in turn delivered stellar performances when they sang to Floor (and were incredibly nervous). Special mention in this respect: Emma Heesters (a CZcams singer) who sang Floor's song "Strong" to Floor (who had written it for her mother who suffers from chronic RA). Tissues handy for that one!
When doing reactions as a non-Dutchie, it's best to go with the English subbed versions that I'll provide the links to. These versions include the lovely before/after banter which provides some very useful & fun context to the songs. The official versions (by broadcaster AVRO/TROS) I would not recommend, since they miss the before/after and also tend to get blocked increasingly. Seven Days to the Wolves has all the things you loved in this song (except the growls) and then some.
This album was Tuomas’ first opportunity to play with Floor’s voice, being the first album recorded with her as the singer - I believe this was the song where he had the most fun!
Imagine composing songs and having Floor's voice as one of the toys at your disposal. She does it all, whereas Tarja was more operatic and Anette was pure rock, Floor is a mix of them and much much more. I'm glad Tuomas is at the helm, he really knows how to compose music that makes the crowd feel like they want to be part of it all.

From the years ive heard Nightwish ive noticed Tuomas brings out all the different talents of whoever comes into the band with the new songs. like the drumming and the vocals in this are unique to Kai and Floor so its awesome to see this song be so different from their older songs but still have the nighwish feel.

Marco has a great voice. You get a small taste in Everdream from Wacken, but he shines in The Islander from Tampere and While Your Lips are Still Red from live from Wembly not the video. And if you want heavy/angry Nightwish, Master Passion Greed has Marco on lead vocals as well

Tuomas tends to favor the stings, mainly violins, when it comes to playing with the orchestral track.
The London Philharmonic Orchestra prerecorded all the orchestral tracks at Angel Studios, London and Tuomas plays it as a backing track during the shows. He gets to actually choose which instrument(s) he plays live.

You need to listen to ‘Beste zangers 2019’. Floor sings there , without Nightwish, with other Dutch singers. They sing eachothers songs and make them their own. Floor in Fantom of the opera with Henk Poort. And afcourse Shallow. Beautiful! You have to listen!!!

All you clowns that are belittling him for not catching her growls right off the bat, are the kind of Nightwish fans we don't need. The guy's listened to what?...4 songs? We have the advantage of hearing this hundreds of times, probably.
He's listening to a ton of audio input here, we all know Tuomas put's a shit ton into his compositions. Marco's voice is also very forward in the mix and her growls aren't easy to pick out your first time around.
Cut him some slack, we should be teaching him what to look for, instead of bashing his appreciation of their musical genius.
He'll eventually get used to what to listen for and will identify "your favorite" part better, I'm sure.
Grab some empathy and tact or stop commenting, it's embarrassing how much you feel you can slag someone on the internet with no consequences.

Hellfest 2022 was a great performance by Nightwish. Tribal was a fun song. But really, you can take your pick. Last Ride of the Day, Storytime, Shoemaker GLS, Greatest Show were my favorites.
The orchestral tracks are actually on a computer running Pro Tools, Tuomas mainly plays the strings and piano on his keyboards, but in a more rhythmic fashion to contrast the legato of the orchestra. The orchestra and choir are recorded in studio with the London Philharmonic orchestra and choir.

Did you notice that there is a different drummer? Kai Hahto is seen here. Original drummer ,Jukka Nevalainen, had to step aside in 2014 due to health issues caused by severe insomnia, but remains with the band in management. He called his friend ,Kai from Wintersun, to take over.
This song is from the Endless Forms Most Beautiful album, the first recorded with Floor and Kai.

they use Pro Tools for their backing tracks, those keyboards aren't able to handle these backing tracks.
I think it's a combination of those. Tuomas has strings sampled and plays parts of those, but the backibg tracks have also strings and other orchestrations.
It’s definitely a mix of both, the track has the majority of the orchestra but he has a string section in his top keyboard. 🤘🤘🤘
We're so lucky that Marko graced Nightwish so long, and I'd love for him to be back with them, but they restrained his skills with the parts written for him somewhat just because he's not the lead. It is important to note that he also has songwriting credits with Tuomas for quite a few things and did a lot of sound engineering for their albums.
He is a frontman in his own right and slays everything you could possibly put in front of him. Check out 'Tides' and 'Wings of Darkness' from Tarot his old band if you feel up to seeing his more traditional style. For Christmas you should listen to 'Heinillä härkien kaukalon' (czcams.com/video/CJz1UEyw0MM/video.html) by Northern Kings! Him and some other nordic metal gods party together hard. They did crazy covers of 'I need another hero' and other stuff too.

I thought music is about how it sounds and not about how it looks, but I can be wrong. This version is bad, because no one gets that Floor is growling, which is a significant thing in this song.
No point in listening to a bad recording when a better one exists. There are more than 1 better live recordings with both audio & video.

What's up brother, good reaction, it's always good to see people from the scene react to nightwish, I know many will make this comment to you, but a color detail about the choir is that the roles are reversed, Floor does the gutturals, and Marco the melodic thing... Personally, once you know what you're listening for, Mexico City has her more brutal growls, Wembley isn't as brutal, but more evident in the video.

Of all the videos of this song, this is the most epileptic one. Also, it's a bit harder to discern the growl, except the final part where it's bloody obvious.

This cruise version is the worst by far. On the bright side: since he missed the you-know-what, he's due for Wembley. So perhaps you might consider editing this possible spoiler before he reads it? Many will suggest a re-watch with the proper version, no doubt. Your choice of course. Cheers!

That tho, takes nothing away from the fact that this was a rather poorly filmed version compared to the other ones, Wembley 1st & foremost.

@@BrendonChase_2015 Too late. It's everywhere in the comments already. And personally, I don't understand the obsession with false chord growls, it's literally the easiest vocal technique to learn. Floor starting every verse with a grit then switching seamlessly into her angelic voice is much more impressive - but less "wow".
