To the north end of the Luros valley, near the village of St. George, north of Philippiada, dominates the Roman aqueduct of ancient Nicopolis. The Roman aqueduct was built after Nicopolis was founded by Octavian-August (1st century BC - 1st century AD) to provide the new city with water.
