I had a drainless top surgery for my surprise hahaha my surgeon didn’t tell me beforehand that he was going to use this specific procedure. So you can imagine how confused I was when I woke up from surgery. TBH back then I wasn’t even aware that drainless was a possibility.
And for me it turned out to be perfect because I was very scared of having drains. I don’t have problem in seeing blood, but looking at 2 huge tubes getting out of me was, in my head, too much to deal with
My recovery went pretty well. I didn’t have any problems with liquid build up. I wasn’t allowed to shower for 1 week (the same restriction as you were with drains) BUT for me the biggest pro was to stay with the post-op binder for 1 week only! The compression vest was HELL so I’m glad I only had to wear for 7 days. My surgeon said it was possible to “remove” it quicker because, since my body didn’t accumulate much liquid (as a result of the drainless procedure), all my skin was already attached to the muscle.
My scars are very thin at the front and they get wider close to the armpits. Not sure if staying longer with the compression vest could’ve helped or if it’s just how my body healed. In terms of lenght, they don’t connect at the middle and end very close to the armpits - it’s possible to see them while wearing a sleeveless shirt
Overall, I had a good experience and results with the drainless surgery

I had drains on mine (double incision), with drainless not mentioned as an option. Didn't really have a problem with them so long as you're careful to not pull or angle the tube wrong at all when changing bandages, and getting them out definitely hurt. But at least that removal pain was over pretty quick.

Thanks Aydian for making this video and starting the conversation!
As someone who has had top surgery with drains I still think there’s a lot of variance of experiences even within those that have had drains and it comes down to different surgeons and bodies. I had peri with drains and was very nervous about the drains initially but they really weren’t all that bad. I was able to continue showering with them in 2 days after surgery and did not experience any pain having them removed, honestly that was the easiest part of the process. I did however experience a burning/stinging sensation on one side of my chest because the drain was pressing against a nerve, irritating it but that went away after the drains were removed. Not everyone will experience that nerve pain due to drains though. In addition there are two small holes left over from where the drains were removed but those scabbed over in 1-2 days, not an issue whatsoever and I was able to continue showering even during that small healing process.

I had no drains and I was fine. It did not join in the middle. It was tight. It hurt when I stood up first thing in the morning. The results of this surgeon look similar to yours. I would have gone to your surgeon he does do a good job. I live in Canada so I could not afford to travel to Florida. I did not want to pay the full price of surgery either. A guy in Canada went to the same surgeon as me and he looks just as good as you. No drains worked out for me because i live on my own.

Yo I love this!!!!!! Thank you! I think it would've helped me when I got my surgery. I was TERRIFIED of the drains OMG!!!! I'm squeamish and not good with stuff like this. But, yo, my drains were fine. I had DI. Had to chill with them in for a week. Barely noticed them. Again, I am a big baby when it comes to this stuff. I was so, so scared about them and it was OKAY! The thought of getting them removed was especially unsettling. Like Aydian said and from what I've heard, it can be gnarly. PERSONALLY though, I didn't feel a thing. Was absolutely shocked. I also had my mom to help me out during my healing, emptying them and all. Couldn't have done that myself, nah. I am happy with the way the holes healed, for me they just look like part of the DI scar. Of course It's gonna be different for everyone, as we are all different. I think you should have the option as well (I did not) BUT if your surgeon uses drains, you got this!!!!!! I know that for sure
