    With the party focused on developing a winning strategy and new direction for 2018 and beyond, the question is: how and if the DNC will change? Can it? And what is needed for the party to win back the heartland? Tactics, platform ideas, and potential candidates discussed.

    Why is college even that expensive in the US? In Switzerland we have tax funded colleges and boarding schools and some of the best universities in the world for little to no money

      Same here in Belgium tax funded, the academic levels of the average Belgian is much higher than the average American. I think most of European countries have higher academic levels than the average American.
      If anybody wonders how thats possible, heres a hint: USA doesn't value their citizens equally

    Why do the citizens of the richest country in the world act shocked and chagrined any time someone mentions socialized healthcare or education, and act like it's utterly impossible? There are many other countries who are doing it successfully. Why can't the USA?

      TimTalksTV On the contrary. You have international commerce, technology, entertainment industry, transnational business... which are way more profitable than "natural income." Chile depends on copper and fruit... How socialized health works in my country? You only need to be a citizen with an I.D. card and voluntarily join Fonasa, the state health system. You pay monthly a 7% of your income, if any. If you have none, a low or irregular one, you get basic care in state facilities, including regular health checks, treatment for most ailments, emergencies, even surgery and palliative care. With greater income, you can chose your physician, clinic, etc. Preexisting conditions are no problem. They don't even ask you if you have one. Age isn't a problem either.
      Still, there are private insurance companies that work the same as yours. You pay a lot more, preexisting conditions and age are important issues, but the advantages are that you get the service for yourself, not through your job, and the service is faster and more luxurious than the public one, in which you can wait for years for a minor surgery.
      How it is possible that the great United States of America can't do the same or better than third world Chile?

    The woman speaking at 0:50 mentions that the democrats are making loans more affordable.
    LOANS ARE NOT AFFORDABLE, PERIOD! Loans are simply funds given to someone to pay for education, but must pay it back later. It's just a delayed financial burden with the hope that there will be a job or enterprise that can give someone a proper income for a livelihood plus paying off the loans.
    The key to making education a virtue is to make it free to everyone who wants to learn beyond a 12th grade level.

    • @ryanmustari2896
      @ryanmustari2896 Před 7 lety +3

      The Secularist
      A road is used for accessibility to differing location which is a major part component to the current economic system we live in. However most majors in colleges are not a demanding/needed field in today's economy hence why a lot of people get out of college with an underpaid job or even no job at all. So at this point you are wasting peoples money since you are not benefiting society at all.

    • @ChazScott
      @ChazScott Před 7 lety +1

      It's a little hard to determine what is useful, especially when some of the technical jobs will be automated. Sitting down and talking with someone for emotional connection is difficult to measure and earn money from. However it does make for a better community--therefore a hidden value that can't be fully appreciated in our current economic system. My argument is that we need a complimentary or a completely new way of rewarding contribution to society.
      The best major someone could get probably get...is a major in problem solving and learning. If someone in today's economy went in to a job advertising these credentials--they would be laughed out of the office. Even though, that company could take someone and train them in anything and they would able to learn that and solve their problems.
      It's not very clear with a population of 350 million to determine which majors that will help find jobs that are profitable and obtainable.

    • @RobertGuilman
      @RobertGuilman Před 7 lety

      DJ Donald Trump exactly my point... i specifically wanted it ONLY for STEM field

    • @ryanmustari2896
      @ryanmustari2896 Před 7 lety

      Chaz Scott I agree that a major that requires a high level of problem solving is probably the best major to have but those already exist. Personally I would say a major in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science is the most beneficial in that area since they are more complex fields. The problem with other majors is that they are dummied down too hard (to the point where its almost as easy as high school) and don't help for future jobs. Also in some fields (ie most business majors) the area is too saturated to the point where getting a degree in sed field is becoming worthless and is only helping the colleges earn money.

    It is obvious that the Senator is a classical liberal and Cenk is a progressive liberal. The Senator touts bipartisan answers based upon facts. In order for her to draw that conclusion she would have had to entertain the arguments of her opponents. Cenk pulls the classic progressive stance of victim after the fact.
    The fact being that most of our educational institutions have been run by progressive democrat public unions for decades. The failure of that leadership is evident in the Senator's answer. In her own way she infers that we need to be teaching marketable skills and not just progressive rhetoric. Cenk, in his own way , reminds us that without progressive rhetoric he has an empty head.

    Who would want to become a member of TYT? Free college? Who is going to go to that college? Its gonna suck and employers are gonna be like pffft who cares you went to the same college everyone else did. It will be just like high school except you dont have to go. Is it going to be free to go to HARVARD? No. Some shitty community college and kids will graduate with no new skills that employers actually care about. Maybe we restructure the mandatory curriculum of our high schools to become more relevant to the real world? Socialized anything sucks and is poor quality.

    • @sallysmolich5822
      @sallysmolich5822 Před 7 lety +4

      K-12 is free. why not college? Consider it an investment in the future. We NEED more doctors and teachers and techies, etc. And with more people educated, fewer relying on government assistance. Pays off in the long run.

    • @killastillah69
      @killastillah69 Před 7 lety

      I am all for an investment in our future, hell i have a 2 year old son. So, i am seriously invested in our future. I just want something that will actually pay off and not put us into even deeper debt. I am trying to articulate a point about the free market and jobs. If everyone has access to college, employers will have an even bigger pool to choose from for higher paying jobs. Do you know what happens when the supply of workers increase? The overall pay for those positions decrease because someone will take less money to do the same job just to get hired. Its simple supply and demand which doesnt just apply to physical products. And then what about older folks who do not have a college education or people who still owe debt. ARe they relieved of that debt? Can older folks "go back" and get a degree for free?
      I guess the take away is: YOU CANT JUST SAY FREE COLLEGE. You need to come up with a plan that will work. Problem is, when you start digging into it and putting the puzzle together it just will not fit. We do not have the tax revenue to accomplish it. So, do we raise taxes across the board? Do we go up to a 90% tax rate for corporations? If so, then what do we do about the thousands of people who will be laid off because of that? Unemployment skyrockets!
      I tell you, come up with a plan that does not have a detrimental outcome and then but only then will we be able to have a constructive conversation about making it happen.

      Thats not how it works. Universities would not change, its that instead of having tuition costs, the cost of running the university would be subsidized by the government. That's how universities work in the vast majority of the world.
