    I never realized that it is only $5 for a riverboat ride on the ferry late at night in Phnom Penh and it include 1 FREE drink as well. Not quite as cheap as the $1 ferry ride that is 45 minutes long to Koh Larn island in Thailand, but it's still a good price.

    Hey Tom buddy. Love your vlogs man! Great advice for someone that is looking into taking the leap into this path of career just like myself. So I’m a 47 yr old British male that doesn’t have a degree. I’ve worked in construction most of my life. I’m a carpenter/Joiner. And I was wondering if there anything is anything standing in my way? I.E.. my age? I consider myself a pretty intelligent person and I’ve no apprehensions about taking the course and passing. I have a good buddy of mine that has a good teaching job with a reputable school there in Phnom Penh. And he’s told me that my age will not go against me. But then I also have a buddy that has been teaching in Siem Reap for the past 7 years, teaching on line to Chinese and Russian students… and he has said that my age may go against me some what? And I was wondering if you could shed any light on this matter for me? Being the age I am would I have a better chance in Cambodia or Vietnam? Are there any Brits around my age that are teaching there? Are there any Brits that are starting the same career path at the age I am now? Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated! Cheers man! Love the content.. keep up the good work fella!

They also offer Vietnam but you need a degree to work there. Accommodation is no longer included but they give you a list of recommended hotels to chose from, varying in price, and you can book one that way.- They also offer the course online as well. • @TomTripsOut
      @TomTripsOut  Před 11 měsíci +2

      Cambodia is mostly inland, there are only rivers. The ocean is not accessible Unless you go to Sihanoukville on the southern part of Cambodia. Im pretty sure there are no waves at all tho. I haven't heard of people surfing there. Cambodia has a strong amount of expat teachers, but schools are ALWAYS in demand. It is very easy to get a job here, schools are desperate for teachers. I am able to save approx $300 a month while teaching here. But I have friends who make the same as me and struggle to save. It depends if you go out and spend your money on drinking and having a social life. I stay in a lot and I often get free drinks when im out because I play in bands that perform at the bars. Yes - especially if you plan on working in Cambodia. During the course you get to practice in real classrooms at Cambodian schools. You can't do that in your home country. Also, It's nice starting off with a group of friends and studying with each other and so on. - BUT some people DO prefer to do the course at home online. AVSE offers both. I could imagine a school paying slightly less too, than someone from Uk or USA. There are black people here tho. I worked with a few and have several friends so it’s not impossible to make a life here. Also it’s mostly the old generation that feels that way. No - you could be any age. Its a common question I get. I worked with many teachers over 55, and some people come teach after they’ve retired in their home country. Im almost 38 myself. Its true its popular with younger people wanting to travel, but they are happy to hire people of any age. The only exception is primary and kindergarten they normally hire females for that.

      Yes it is 4 weeks long. It costs $1657 - and includes a lot of stuff such as job assistance. If you reach out to Peter at AVSE they can answer everything in more detail. Email : “peter@avse.edu.vn”

      @@raheretewaharoa9280 it depends on many things like if you work full time, the type of school, the amount of teaching hours, if you have experience. But I’d say you can expect like 1000-1300 a month. 11 - 1200 is pretty common to start. Then over time you can get increases or change schools

      Lately I’ve heard stories of people from Africa having difficulty with getting work visas and immigration stuff due to racism unfortunately. Its not impossible tho, because there are people from Africa here teaching. I just thought you should know you may experience difficulties. I worked with a girl that had to go back 4 times before she finally got the longterm visa.

    Dude, you gotta stop plugging that program. I'm sure it's great, and I'll probably use it when I head over there myself, but you gotta stop acting like it's the only option. Expat minded people can be some relentless do it yourselfers. At least explain that you can go there and still get a job without it, and what that would entail.

      Well you cannot get a teaching job without a TESOL or TEFL. But there are many different courses out there. I can just only speak on what i’ve done. Another option might be to find a tesol or tefl program in your hometown before you come. But they would not prepare you for Cambodian culture, you would not get real classroom teaching practice, and they wont line you up with a job. So its a bad option compared to AVSE. I don’t want to suggest things that i don’t believe in.

      The answer to that is outside of my knowledge. I just have a high-school education only. I would recommend applying at the really high end expensive private schools
