Sounds good to me. If they had the internal red and blue lights like the MT15, I bet people would be more stoked on it. Semi-evolved monkeys like bright/shiny things.
That would be my only gripe, the red and blue LED's. I would have preferred a light on the front. Some Duct Tape would solve that though.
Those can added post purchase
Semi-evolved monkeys like 'definitive' reviews, that ignore one whole amp channel, playing teenager riffs.
I did the 50w mod to my MT15 and it’s an absolute monster, I’ll never sell it.
Did you take it to a tech to have the work done ? I would love to get mine modded to 50w but not exactly sure what needs to be done. 🤘
I did the same thing. Will never sell. Love the 50w mod!!
I did the same. Opened it up and has my tech fix the effect loop
@@justinroark6534What did you do to mod it?
Ya how do you do that mod?
Thank you for doing this video! This is exactly the reason I love this channel so much. You take a no bullshit and realistic approach to your shootouts. I appreciate you! I’m also on board with the MT100
Great comparison video Sir. My MT100 shipped out yesterday and i cannot wait to use it. 🤘🏻❤️🔥🤘🏻
Gosh! this video is superb, man, and it does sounds brutal, with everything you did, no doubt, this is the comparison that I’m looking for, the MT100 vs MT15 (with a boost all the way up), thank you so much for doing this comparison man, love your channel already 💥💥💥
My pleasure!! Thanks for watching and commenting
One other thing, Mark made this for arenas try and crank it up, one time and see how it holds up
Exactly my thoughts
Great video dude. Truth be told, though, the sounds are all super subjective. My ears actually preferred the Tremonti over all the others. I think what folks should keep in mind is it's a signature amp. It's what works best for Mark and not necessarily everyone else. He's one of those guitarists that has a very distinguishable style. For people who are really into that kind of thing this amp is going to ring their bell. For people who dig stuff more in the vein of like Lamb of God or Meshuggah or something, it might not. I'd probably more like to hear the MT100 compared to some of the amps Mark has always used like his favorite revision Mesas or an Uberschall, then the clean up against an old Fender Twin. Then against a Dumble on the crunch channel. I think that's the real test. How does it stack up to the amps he claims it was designed to replace in his setup? Thanks for the video 👍
Thanks for doing this comparison video Jarrod. Very well done!
Excellent video. The biggest issue with this amp, and the MT15 for that matter, is the noise floor in my opinion. In the band I was previously in, our rhythm guitarist had an MT15 and even when both of our guitars had the volume rolled all the way down the amount of hiss coming from that MT15 was insane. I’d say its noise floor was at least three to four times louder than that of my Orange TH100. I can’t believe they didn’t fix that with this new MT100. It’s even an issue on the clean channel which should be nearly dead silent!
I noticed the same thing when I demoed the 15 watt at my local music store. I thought it sounded pretty darn good but the hiss and crackle was ridiculous. I thought it was a bad unit that needed to be returned to PRS. Apparently they’re all that way. Really disappointing.
My amp arrived today. I plugged in the way i usually do with my other amps; four cable method coming from a pedal board powered by a brick, then into a G string 2 (the cables 😂) then into the effects loop send and return. When i powered it on for the first time, i could not Believe the amount of hum coming through, louder than the guitar playing through the amp on channel 1. Perplexed, I disconnected all the cables and plugged straight into the input. The hum was significantly lower. But so was the volume level.
When i had my pedal board hooked up, the pedals made a loud clicking noise when turned on and off, except the boss pedals. SMH
Awesome video, very useful. About having to crank the Treble and Presence on the MT100, I have the same issue with my PRS Archon 50. If I don't crank them it sounds as if someone put a blanket over it, so much so that at first I thought there may be something wrong with my unit when I compared it to my other amps. Having both at around 14:00 - 15:00 makes it sound proper, so I guess it's something to do with PRS amps.
Thanks for the comparison,at first I did not think I liked it on its own.after the comparison I got to say the mt 100 is really growing on me.
Same here! I'm so glad I did this
I agree, it held up against some of the big boys really well !
Great comparisons 🤘
It goes to show that everyone has a different opinion. For me the riffing sounded best on the mt100, i dont know why but its so ballsy to me only Mark Tremonti can make this specific vibe. The evh sound more defined, but the narliest was the mt100. At least to me.
Thanks for both of your videos with this amp. Especially this one with the shootout with the MT15 and the MT100. I own a MT15 and really wanted to see the differences. Great comparison! Thank you!
Surprisingly the mt 100 sounds best to me. I like the low mid movement and girth without the high midrange crackle/ fold over i dislike in some other amps. Im in Great video brother keep them coming!! ripping as always
Loved this demo brother. I'm on the road so I can't get 100 watt heads but been looking at all the good lunchbox heads still impressed by the 15 when it's boosted
Yup , boosted is the key imo. I use a screamer copy in the front . Tightens it up
Thanks dude! Mt15 was a totally different animal, not what im after.
Yes can't wait ..the true reveal
Great video, Jarrod it’s definitely found a lot more better than the first couple videos I’ve seen out there it’s starting to grow on me now it holds up to that EVH pretty well
Really appreciate this video and comparison! You are very open and honest, and it was actually cool to see your opinion change haha. Thanks for the great comparison, definitely curious to try this amp out.
I like MT100 gain structure the most. The biggest difference for me was with seventh string. It handles low tunings very nice. Iconic fails tremendously there.
Fireball 100 is $1.9k but i dont think MT100 would stand a chance lol
What do you mean ? Stand a chance at what ?
Love the Soprano comment 😂 I think it’s a great amp and really appreciate your shoot out. One thing that I found is with just the guitar plugged straight into the amp and nothing in the FX loop the clean and overdrive channel are dead silent. Lead channel still gets the normal hi gain noise. As soon as you add pedals in the fx loop the noise you observed is there. Negligible but it is there.
Same as with original archon….supposedly fixed loop noise . But I have a feeling it’s still the weak spot in prs amps
@@j.reveille6815 I went thru my pedal chain and cleaned up my power supply ... Noise is basically gone now
@@WJHemenway Cool….amps sound killer but mine was noisey, prs sent schematics to have a mod done to fix the hiss..it wasn’t loud , but annoying enough and def a flaw in design. I mitigated the noise by separating my cables going into loop with styrofoam and moved effects away from the amp and it was much better ….but still a bummer since it was an issue and still not as quiet as almost any amp I have had with a loop. I was surprised Paul let them go to market like that. Still say they sound great tho. Rock on.
The 2nd channel was why the MT100 took as long, according to Mark Tremonti. The Clean and channel 3 you can take from the MT15 and make it better. But Mark wanted channel 2 to be as close to his own Dumble as possible, which is a challenge in itself
That channel was NOT worth the wait IMHO. I really hope he likes it because I think he's the only one who will 😅🤣😂
Its a good comparison between some brutal amps!! Thanks for being honest and realistic about the whole thing!! I still want one 🤘🤘🤘
23:10 Yep, that's how it works. Test of time is always the best test. Also good to know I don't need to sell my Stealth to get the MT100. Thank you for the video.
Very close to the Splawn. Not quite as saturated as the Iconic, but not a marked difference. The Stealth, however, is a few rungs above.!All said, a great amp.
Great video really helped me decide on getting the MT100 from this shootout I think Mark nailed is venture to mix he’s long going Mesa and Bogner for his live tone. I think the mid range on this reminds me of a warmer wider bogner and the bass and bite of a Mesa or even the EVH.
You made the metal face playing the Splawn. 15:41 🤣
Tremonti uses some particularly hot passive pickups, so I am not surprised at how nicely the MT took a boost and still stayed pretty crisp and not too muddy.
2:43 5:46 // 3:53 4:36 Spawn is bright, Stealth is dark clean...10:55 15:38 18:18 // 9:57 15:08 18:51 Splawn has the best tone in this comparison but darker, and stealth has the most aggressive tone so personal choice...
The Nitro is King of this group! :)
Great shootout! Have a 5150 Stealth and was impressed how the MT100 stacked up. I'm always surprised how much I like the gain on the Iconic too. Would love to see the MT100 compared to a dual rectifier in the future!
Well done sir. Thanks again for this comparison. I'm jiving with your exact thoughts. By the end of your video yesterday, you had it dialed-in sick. Today, you had it rocking even more. It did exceptionally well against some market heavyweights. I think with time, like most amps, its nuances will become pronounced and appreciated.
The engl fireball is around the same price ied like to see those to matched up
Got to give credit the MT100 Clean sounds pretty amazing
Take my opinion for what its worth because I'm really not a "metal" guy although i love this channel, but I actually found the MT's lead voicing most pleasing. I liked that the top end seemed a bit more rounded than the others and the mids seemed to be centered a little lower but with still plenty to cut through. Gave it a throaty sound i enjoyed.
I have this amp and you described it perfectly when compared to my stealth. It goes to show how valuable these videos are.
Awesome Comparison!! MT100 sounds Huge and Mean!!! MT100 has a Giant sound. Guarantee Mark pairs it with his Dual Rec later on.
Great shootout Jarrod, this really helps in the Amp purchase decision process between these. Well done!
Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. this thing deserves a consideration from everyone
Really great demo and comparison! Appreciate this.
Great Demo - new MT 100 sounds great (fairly affordable) lacks some extras but it's affordable
I actually think the MT sounds better than the Stealth. The Stealth is so aggressive it starts becoming too much IMO.
Really good video. Thanks for doing this. I love my MT 15 But I am impressed with the EVH stealth after this video. The clean channel on the MT 100 sounds a little thin. It would be nice to stand next to these amps. And make a decision.
I own both. The MT100 clean is far away better than the EVH100 but that’s just my opinion. They’re both great amps.
That Splawn... now THERE'S a good clean tone. Way better than that new PRS amp. Glad you scooped those mids on it, though. It does sound better. That Splawn is almost Fender good.
Great great video !!
amp eta for me mid dec in Uk.
Watching this poolside in Lanzarote haha.
Amp sounds awesome to me . nice and open . excited like a teenager !
Thanks Jarrod !
Thanks for all of your hard work man! Great video 🤘🏼
That's such a great video, thanks for sharing as it seems like lots of work!
Splawn was suprrislingly the best stand out for me the mt100 and the stealth beat they iconic which reminded me why i sent tht amp straight back but mt100 was not far behind the stealth
I wonder how many of you actually contacted PRS to tell them about the noise issue with the MT-15? I’m sure they would’ve addressed it had 1,200 people flooded their inbox with complaints.
That Splawn Nitro is RIGHTEOUS. So gritty and heavy. Winner, winner chicken dinner.
I think I still like the Stealth slightly more but for the money the MT100 definitely wins.
Oh man, I agree that the 100w sounds way better than the 15w. I have the 15 and it sounds good, but any time I try it out against one of my other amps I always pick the other one. It has a bit of a congested quality to it imo. I haven't played the 100 personally, but based on the CZcams videos I've watched it seems like it would work really well for commercial hard rock type of music that has that palm mutey/power chordy type style (it's a bit obvious, but it makes me think of something like Nickelback or Creed). The Stealth and other amps can do it obviously, but the MT 100 sounds to me like it was made for that, and I could just plug in and be there...which makes a lot of sense, because Tremonti
Like, if I bought this amp I think that the first thing I would do is plug in and play Metallica's version of Whiskey in the Jar
Guys between these ones which one would you favour for Leads in terms of tone, feel and fun?
Great shootout brother! Thanks so much for your reviews of relevant gear. ??? Question = any chance the MT100 fills that empty space in your wall of amps? If not. Then what will? 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Do the different EVH amp heads have different sounds or features, or are they just Blk, Gold, or Wht for cosmetic pourposes?
Hi, 100w head is sounding pretty good, but I have a question for you. Have you played through or compared any of the Laney amps as I myself was looking in that direction, if no, thats not a problem. thankyou.
Great Video! Do you think that you'll do a video about using the Line 6 Helix to switch channels on it like you did with the MT 15? Would love to see if it's possible!
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I would do that video but I don't have the amplifier here anymore. it was on loan from motor city guitar.
The more shootout videos I watch, the more I realize that most high gain amps sound very similar. Cascading gain stages in the preamp will achieve about the same result no matter the amp manufacturer. If you buy any one of these amps, you will get THAT sound.
You are exactly right. I listen to all these demos and hear different words used to describe the units. There's barely a dimes worth of difference in these face melting amps. For the most part.
And I think that's a good thing. You can get a kickass sound out of any of these amps. Good videos like these let you realize that.@@JROD5150
Youre saying ...........on the stealth ......... You can run the Blue channeel At the samke time as the red channel, combined??? simotaneously??? Thats unheard of imo.
Splawn nitro and MT100 sound best. Stealth is so similar to MT100. It naturally has more presence/aggression but that is hard to take out of the stealth. MT100 sounds more musical. I like brutality and musicality. Nitro and MT100 for the win on this video.
What is this easter egg of the EVH Stealth 100 that you speak of?
The gain controls of channel 2 & 3 are interactive, Jarrod will fill you in
@@AlexanderShibilskiwhat !? That's crazy !
@@auntjenifer7774 it’s part of the stealth modification. If Channel 2 gain is set low, when you play through Channel 3 there is a smoother input stage. If you crank Channel 2 Gain, Channel 3 will have the brightest attack it can have (darkest attack with Channel 2 Gain full counter clockwise). The smoothness is roughly a 6dB shelf on the top frequencies….Channel 3’s gain control has a bright cap (like every 5150 lead channel does) and that sits the channel with bright attack.
The 5150III has the 5150II’s Easter egg stock (when on the lead channel and crunch NOT selected, the lead channel’s input stage get some smoothing) and this “Easter egg” on the 100S is the exact same thing but further and adjustable!
I appreciate the responses.
Prs sounds like my retired carvin v3 amp..i retired it for a reason..
I’m surprised how good the clean channel sounded on the Stealth vs the 5150 block letter. Personally the I did not like the 5150 clean channel at all. It sounded muddy and bland vs the Stealth and the PRS which both have that sparkly transient that I prefer. But you’re not purchasing the 5150 to play John Mayer covers 😂. So does it really matter that much? Good comparison thanks!
The mt100 sounds great
i havent seen a rivera on your channel yet, wondering how the k7 compares to the jp2c or stealth
I would love to see the K7 in this channel too!
i think the rivera would rival any big low end end amp, and would like to see how it compares. i think tone wars would favor one on the channel@@diegocortesrodriguez2616
Can you A/B the Splawn and the Friedman JEL-20?
Is there a specific reason why you did the Iconic on the Green channel + OD instead of the Red channel? All the others were in their Red/Lead channel... but the Iconic sounded like it was pretty much equal in aggression, even though it wasn't on its Lead/red channel. To think the Iconic still had on tap: Lead channel + Burn + Boost. Wow.
Also, for the cleans, the Iconic was the weakest for sure. Maybe needed to use that Boost function in the pedal or add reverb...... perhaps with the boost it would have come closer to the others.
That 5153 sounds pretty dope. Almost the perfect high gain amp.
Good question, I just felt that the green channel in high gain mode was a little more straightforward sounding and felt it was better for this particular shoot out
So dude if you had to choose only one and one only, would you choose the Stealth or the MT100?
For my taste, Stealth. More aggressive and more tone options
Question. Did you use any gates on these demos? A fair amount of high gain amps have channel noise or amp noise. How would you compare this amp to the others?
Nevermind. I watched further. I have voted my MT100 out of my rig. Louder than all my other amps.
Hey! How nitro feels compare to mesa rectifier?
How was the feel of the MT100? More “dry” like a rectifier or more “wet” like the Evh stealth? Thanks for the video!
Once it was boosted, the feel was very good.
The feel was decent without the boost pedal but I always prefer how an amplifier feels with a boost
You regularly use the term brutal, in terms of tone what does brutality mean to you?
What is weird is that the knobs are all over the place
Just to start. Im not bitching lol. The mt15 is really a 50 watt smashed to a 15 watt...fine a mt15 with the 50 watt mod and test that. That may be a good comparison.
MT-100 is my Favorite amp with its clean tones and butdal hot channel the overdrive channle is also to my likeing I would buy it but a couple of problems with it for me there is no step down voltage to the power amp section wich is very usefull for practice and studio work and why does it have to always be running at 100 watts what a waste to put all that time attention and money into this thing if you cant even tone it down to resonable levels of volume that is this amp drawback and also it would have been a better amp if there was a big three spring reverb on the fricken thing so altho its a heavy hitter it struck out for a lot of potential buyers for those two very important fetchers that are not on the table
Thanks for commenting. yeah, you would think that after 5 years of tweaking, they would have come up with a few more ideas with this amplifier.
All that said, I think it's a good amp but I feel like they could've done a little bit more with it.
Splawn vs Quickrod for thrash?
Probably a quick rod
@@TONEWARSgearshowwhich one feels tighter? I play C# stuff mainly thrash to technical death. I’d prefer not to use a boost. Just got hood pickups and a heavy hand.
He seems to be missing the high end fizz on Everything is a no go.
Please stop calling the linked gain on the Stealth blue and red channels an “easter egg.” Howard Kaplan has publicly stated it’s a design flaw that he tried to have corrected
That's why I call it an Easter egg. most people don't know about it. in my opinion, they shouldn't change this feature at all. it's the best mistake that you've ever made
HUMNO baby, HUMNO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After watching so many videos and reviews of the mt100, I don't like it at all. Hard to believe that Trimonti actually uses this amp for concerts. Much better sounding amps out there where all channels are usable.
What isn’t usable on the MT100?
@@briandoyal7338 oh boy! Ok clean and lifeless crunch or second stage channel. Basically gain it's I guess meh. I'm trying to say they do work just go buy one and try it, you might enjoy it .🤟
I sorry but this amp blows out all the competition in all aspects!
Thanks for commenting. that's why I did this comparison. I want people to see how it compares and pick the best option for them.
Great video as usual! For what it’s worth I think the Stealth and Splawn sound much better than the other two . I read that PRS was trying to make channel 3 sound like a blend of a rectifier and VH4.
The Stealth destroys this amp.
I would have to agree
Probably the guy that has the amp doesn´t have a clue of what he´s doing or been doing for a long time ! And that´s a shame because we all can learn a litle bit from everyone!
Should I buy the Mt100 or just get the MT 15 and save a little money
😂 Depends , are you playing with a loud singer and drummer ? If not then no reason to get this 100 watt amp you won't be able to turn up past 2.
Put it another way, I found Marshall DSL15 HEAD to be way way too loud for jacking around with backing tracks and I got the DSL1 watt head and it's still really loud but can down to 0.1 watt so it's Perfect for bedroom/ house amp.
It won't get that same bass response as the 100 watt but I don't use huge bass nor down tune my guitar to floppy tunings of bass guitars 😂
I would say get the Iconic tbh or a used 6505/5150. You will get more headroom on the EVH/Peavey and save some money. Honestly the Iconic has a great for the price.
@@auntjenifer7774 MT15 LOUD!
Save for the MT100. Having a small 15 watt is only beneficial if you only ever play to yourself in your own house, and also need it to be quieter for neighbors/apartment/etc. Other than that, getting a full size amp that you really like is an investment that is worth while and should last you a lifetime.
Get both. The MT15 is the king of small lunchbox amps, and the MT100 sounds awesome
Should never need a petal for a amp to sound good it means the amp is garbage.. that’s coming from a 48 year old guy who toured 20 years ago in a known band. I used nothing but PV ultra plus never needed any petals to make it sound good
