  • In this video, I share my suggestions on how to play effortless octaves at the piano, faster and with more ease.
First I examine three reasons you get fatigued playing long octave passages. After that I discuss two things to avoid in your hand position when playing octave passages.
Using examples from the literature, I then give you four suggestions on how to minimize fatigue and accumulated tension while playing fast octave passages. This is the second video in a two-part series: you can view the first one here: • Play Octaves Faster Wi...

Your channel is one of the best I've come across lately & I'm sure many like me who can't afford a teacher or go to Uni'' will certainly benefit from your channel. i eagerly look forward to your videos every week. i hope you have recovered from Covid? 😊 ... I am kinda struggling with "improvisation" . I'm sure there is a right way to learn & practice soloing. Albeit, there are a lot of videos on Improv" but none talk about how to learn it the right way especially for beginners. It's mostly around 12 bar blues. Might I request you to come up with a video on improvisation for "beginners", more importantly that should one learn first before even trying improv".. :)

This was so helpful! I'm currently working on two pieces that have challenging octave sections (one is Mozart's Rondo alla Turca, which hasn't been difficult to learn, but the octave passages do cause fatigue after a few measures). (The other is a ragtime/stride piece with octave passages in both the right and left hands.) I was wondering if you have (or are planning) any videos on the particular challenge of fast, broken octaves (either in alla Turca or longer examples such as the Beethoven's Pathetique first movement). Thank you! This is one of the best piano channels on CZcams -- I have learned so much from you!

Thank you! I keep folding my pinky in a half step all the time, messing the octave up.
