    Out of all the rockets flown on pad 39A and B, the shuttle was the most important

      @@goldgamercommenting2990 Yes, I can agree on that. Taking in consideration the body of work, how many humans and missions the Space Shuttle launched, we can say it's the GOAT of Pad 39A/B, and one of the GOATs overall.

    Nothing Space x can do can eclipse what the shuttle did.The shuttle was a beast carrying heavy payloads, hardware and humans.

      NASA and SpaceX are not in the same ballpark, we can't compare, both are great at what they do. But yeah, the Space Shuttle is in the GOAT discussion :)

    Out of 135 missions in the space shuttle program only two never returned, Challenger (STS-51L) in 1981 73 seconds after liftoff and Columbia (STS-107) in 2003 on reentry when it broke apart over central Texas. Sadly both of those losses took the lives of all seven crew members on board. NASA does plan to leave the runways open due to the Sierra Nevada Corporation developing the new Dream Chaser orbiters for NASA which follows an outer mold of the earlier HL-20 orbiters. It will look similar to the space shuttle but it will be a little smaller than them. NASA intends to do missions with a cargo variant and a crewed variant to supply cargo to the International Space Station. Iv'e never been to KSC to see a launch but plan to hopefully see a Space X launch down there some point in time.

      It was during liftoff and sustained heavy damage but not in a very critical area. The astronauts thought they would die on reentry.

    How did they decide what missions launch from Pad A or pad B

    • @GoToSpace_GTS
      @GoToSpace_GTS  Před 4 měsíci

      Originally, there were plans to build 3 launch pads (A, B & C). The 2 launch pads had the purpose of assuring that there will not be any bottlenecks during the Apollos 9, 10 & 11 missions.

      @@anthonyjackson8624 "You're Go at 40", that's 40s, or "You're Go at 1min" . It's from mission control or CAPCOM which tell the crew commander that all is good/nominal (the different checks performed on STS). This is more specific to the early launches of STS. But in general, mission control always announces to the crew the status of the checks at different points of the flight, same as they announce for ex "3 engines at 65%" or "roll program".
