The goby imo works great but not for size also if you trim the top and bottom of the tail part, it’ll paddle harder and will also “hunt” when swimming. Something you might try is the poop baits. I’ll actually put a missile baits bomba on a c rig but specifically the bomba as it tends to suspends longer.

Free rig is different 1. The way the bait falls slower behind the weight and allows the bait to give off more action on the fall. 2. Your dragging it more like a lindy rig bottom bouncer.
Matt have you entertained slow rolling a spinner bait deep , that's my technique to try when I get back up to Clayton. I haven't heard anyone doing that. I do know guys ise 1oz Rooster tails though inline spinner baits. I'll give up a secret Carolina rig a small jerk bait... don't laugh
