Rob and his dad’s short-staccato laughs are exactly the same. 😄 No one will ever say they’re not related!
There's no denying either of those boys.
And his brother too haha
They are not related.
Those two are like "The Angry Beavers"
@@mphill2176 brotherS
Two questions... 1. Has Rob done a race/track day with out taking a grinder or sawzall to the body of his car? 2. How is there still material left to cut after all of the forementioned hackery?
no
He does it as often as his videos end abruptly
Rx7s are living organisms, they grow back like lizard tails
I got a question, whaT ever happened w the 12 rotor? its been a month is it done yet?
Weight reduction is ongoing.
Drop kicked a baby to be this early
Thatta boy
Dedication
You a real one for that
Preach 🙏
I can't with these replies man 😂😂
That’s really cool that you considered the fact that the wind would spin the compressor on the turbo for 2,100mi, with no oil flow.
Actually that wont happen unless somehow the throttle body is open and the ports are both open. Same for 2 and 4 stroke piston engines.
Turbo won't spin if there isn't air moving through the engine
@@rcravincase have you tried spinning a new gen ball bearing turbo? its like hot knife on butter. absolutely no resistance. you can literally blow a gust of wind with your mouth and spin the compressor
@@KauBoySL yes, half my fleet have bb turbos on them. You are more than welcome to come blow into the turbo to show me.
Covering it to keep debris out is a good idea though if you dont run an air filter.
This guy tested it as well. czcams.com/video/yEvRT5vSLQE/video.html
Because ceramic ballbearing cant handle 60rpm😂
i think rev matching will help you go faster. great content all the time, seeing your dad had a blast in a drift car is cherry on top. 🤘🏼
general footwork with rev matching, trail braking and all that stuff probably. Rob is pretty open about how he's still learning to race, and with that mindset he'll improve eventually
Honestly really impressed with the safety guy, super on to it but not being a jerk and screwing around
Thank you 🙏 🤘
@@mr.deuling9445 TRASH HIM 😆
Just give it some time, he's still green..
Ya dude was on top of it. But it's not safety, it's liability. In reality
That mid corner break up in the throttle is going to send you in a spin when you really start pushing it. Any sort of major upsets when the tires are loaded can turn on you suddenly. But other than that it sounds heavenly
My car has been doing the same thing recently, exactly like that too. I thought it was a misfire but is it caused by either the throttle body or even cable?
@@MrHellvis667is your tune right? Robs sounds like a hole in the tune
@@proxypanda4156 I still have the OEM ecu so I’d hope so haha
So glad his going with a Haltech ecu, it will control the DBW much better in those situations, and do alot more!. I vaguely remember him having this problem at low speed in the 4 rotor and he tuned it out himself.
@Terrnact if youre cable, then its your foot acting on the cable, this generally happens with big cams, the engine starts to bounce around from low torque to high torque, while you are trying to hold a steady foot the bouncing unintentially travels through the pedal to the throttle, further aggravating it, turning it into a positive feedback loop. The easiest correction is to take your foot off and start again (low speed), however I believe retarding timing in the affected cells and reducing the bounce of engine torque would be the only option for cable throttles or if your ecu had some function where it recognised the bouncing TPS and retarded ignition. I am no guru but if its a dangerous concern like Rob's is, it needs to be logged and tuned.
I slid a Geo into a ditch when I was 17 after a bump mid-corner made my foot start a resonant throttle pulsing. Between my inexperience and that shitbox's lack of handling, it's a miracle I didn't roll it.
Definitely need to fix!
you can do a blip system through the ecu for the downshifts , ( brake pressure + clutch pressure = 10% tps for .2 seconds )but over 10mph so it doesnt blip in paddock will help you smooth out your driving a ton and let you focus more on your braking ..... numbers will vary for tps based on aggression of driving
Or heel-n-toe as God intended.
Instructions unclear my car now has 6 neutrals 😔
Congrats on being on track with a "safe-ish" car! Big milestone we are proud
Edit : Also big big congrats on the safety guys actually doing their job and making sure safety basics are done!
Is this advanced sarcasm?
Seeing this in person and then now the video is dope! Thanks for the conversation we had there ! You’re as awesome in person as on screen.
The best kinds of youtubers keep there integrity in person and always keep things real. One of the reasons Rob is such a likeable person and youtuber.
Kum & Go....LMAO.
Unfortunately, i can't unsee that sign. Lol.
Thanks for making it Rob! It was a pleasure helping you throughout the weekend! Can’t wait to see the car with a cage next time
24:01 i appreciate you signing her arm again, it means the world to her to see you twice! I wasn’t able to make it out this year because tickets were sold out but hopefully next year I get to see you! Ps. I was the guy that was with her last year in the pink sweater that you signed.
Also to note, I think it's funny you were worried about getting booted into Track Mod. Street Mod is one of, if not THE most competitive time attack classes on the planet. We have regularly ran faster times than Track Mod just due to how developed the cars are. Also I'm all for your car being in the class. I think it's a totally valid swap.
I realized that quickly! I love it. Got tons of great data and while it wasnt alot of seat time, it was promising to set a sub 1:40 next time im there. Next video is swapping to the haltech and you can see my confidence rise considerably. Just super happy with the base of the car now. Its a dream to drive
and switching classes, looking back at it could have been more track time for you also.
Rob.... You're dad's reaction made this entire video for me! I just loved seeing that bro 💕
When you see that kind of excitement, it makes the entire event. When parents get excited and have a smile on their face like they are a child again; you know you won a moment in their life that they will never forget! Awesome
RIP Dad
Rob if you ever give you dad a VR headset and play the 360 drift video of mad mike in his 3 rotar MX5.... Make sure that he's seated properly and not standing up 😆
Love how Rob is always parked in a random spot. Looks like he pulled into vendor row and said Meh this will work.
Looks like an amazing run, I've never seen a 3-rotor with this much power trying to grip corners on low aero.
By this point it'd be pretty badass to throw caution to the wind quite literally and double whatever amount of downforce you're making to improve cornering and fully use that power on the straights.
Canards on the front and rear, lift the front lip and create a venturi effect with a massive diffuser on the rear. Really make it grip to the ground. It would probably kill the "street car" look but make it capable of stretching that power to the limit.
Why dream of an F1 car when you can have even more fun with Rx7?
Masterpiece car
dont get me wrong i love the track focused rx7, however you cant deny an f1 car would be so mch more of a buzz
The 4 rotor would give the f1 feel
building my 93 R1. at 58yo
I would love to see what a pro race driver can do in this car. I also think thd feedback would be helpful to Rob as well.
In my opinion rob needs this for the 4 rotor fd as well. Just to tell him what it has too much or little of like spring rates, damper settings, sway bar stiffness ect. I wonder how much time he puts into aligning it, or if he cornerbalances it at all.
There was an event hosted by Rob from gothamdreamcars where the owners of project cars drove their best time and then a professional driver i think dahm was there to, but don't quote me on that🤘🏻
@@fampic7133 that was the 3 rotor if memory serves
Yea Rob doesn't push the car at all, he's not a good driver.
I can see so much resemblance in the laugh, the delight, the animation - long live the legacy of Dahm! haha :)
Haven't seen a video for a while so this one was great to see.
1. Amazing music at the beginning. I really loved it.
2. Isiah pushing full Miami Vice vibes.
3. Rob using the card he builds! The more time on track I see the more I love it. It becomes building for a reason not building just for the sake of it. Plus the joy of actually driving what you build. 🎉😊
Keep it up! Rotary power!
I always crimp those terminals in a vice then torch and solder it for extra fun.. keeps the dirt out/off the wires for highly reduced corrosion.
I've done 24 hrs of lemons on that track. I did a 1:42 in a 70s plymouth valiant you should be able to in this thing
Senior Dahm always cracks me up when smiling because he’s the original signature Dahm laugh.
bot level behavior
Sweet to see the video from the event, watched you both days! The car was unreal, and your corner entry at 12:00 made an earth-shaking boom from your exhaust and scored chuckles out of the nearest 50 people in all directions.
The last modification the car needs is a driver mod to stay on it till the braking zones 😂.
Na good on you Rob. Keep it up. Love seeing the cars out and about
1) Your dad's a hoot.
2) Thank you for the in-car track time pov.
3) Now I want to finally pull the trigger on a FD and learn to build rotaries.
Your brother your dad are just all different versions of each other which is amazing to see 😂
pure joy :)
This is why we spend all our hours and energy on our passion, loved to finally see it on track!
When I needed to crimp 2 gauge lugs for a winch I decided to just make my own with a 9/16" nut cut in half. The threads on the nut were 1/2" before they were ground down. Used it in the vice and it worked great. It also worked with a hammer on the floor when I had to do one while it was still on the truck.
I love all your content love the commitment and the blood sweat in tears is gonna pay off your my favorite CZcamsr and thats never gonna change you talk so deep into to the problems and make the people understand in the easiest way its just so cool. Love your content keep up the good work👏🙌
Rare D. Williams at 16:40 LMFAO. feel bad for the guy but didn't expect to see him on Dahm's dash cam lol
That's cool they went around and talked to other owners/drivers. Nice to see the other cars as well.
The Turn in Concepts guys are the best! They used to talk me through my build for hours multiple times a week and never complain. Didn't ever try to sell me useless bs either, I beat the crap out of an ej255 for over 80k miles with not 1 engine issue, think the guy that bought it still runs it the same.
So cool seeing you out there showing people the Rotary life. I always wanted one but for now I'm content with my ZX-6R
Car sounded so sick out there on the track, easily my favorite sound at the whole event. Glad to see ya make it out another year
I was so happy when I saw you were there at Gridlife. The car sounds so awesome in person!
That high rpm / low tps bucking is from a rich spot in the map. I had the same issue with my turbo civic. Looks like it is happening above 6500 rpm. Just start pulling fuel in the first 4 or so cells from 6500-redline until it smooths out. You should be able to recreate it on the street and just keep pulling fuel until it goes away.
looks like your hand placement on the wheel has gotten alot better.
Stoked for you and the boys making to GridLife. SICK!!!
I need rob, robs brother, and their dad to all laugh at the same time🤣🤣🤣🤣
The People running the show at grid life are awesome.
You did great! I really have enjoyed watching your videos on these cars!!!
Pretty sure there should be a setting to limit how fast the throttle acts at certain rpm. Idk if it can be mapped to certain rpm ranges, but it might be enough to get the jumping away.
If you don’t have them already, installing some floor plates will help a lot with being able to plant your heal and stabilize your foot on the throttle. Several companies offer them.
She sounds absolutely BRUTAL!!!!!!
Foot hop can be kept under control by resting the edge of your foot on the tranny tunnel , that should smooth out the throttle input . That's an old Jeep trick , it stops you from over gassing it every time you hit a bump on the trail .
Rob you are brilliant, i love all the content, the cars are great and i love learning along with you as you do things. The only thing to top it is you hired a driver coach, you would enjoy the car ten fold if someone properly coached you in the art of driving. Coming from a place of love my dude
I almost love the 3 rotor out of the entire lineup. It gets used so well.
Joel got the music on point lately
Glad to see you out getting track time!
Looks so good out on track and sounds even better!!
Its awesome seeing your dad have a good time cherish it
You need to put some revmachin for the down shifts... Nice to see good racin lines
Great driving Rob! The only major critique would be adding "heel-toe" downshifts (rev matched downshifts while braking) to your tool shed. That could possibly solve your choppy throttle/ bucking issues around corners since at higher rpms it should be more stable since the throttle is farther away from 0%, but either way it puts you in the right part of the powerband for exiting corners. you can practice in the insight when coming up to redlights if you wanted to, that's what I did in my GLI lol.
heel toeing is a misleading name for modern cars since pedals are so close together. You can brake with the ball of your foot while blipping the throttle with the side of your foot, so its much more comfortable than it sounds
Some of you may already know this but Rob is a wizard, love the content!
Heel toe and match rev those down shifts, and stop putting it in neutral going into the corners! 😂 love to see the progression!
Rob I've been watching your vids for a while and just want to say I feel like you're rotary god! I love how transparent yoh are with the findings you've found with them too like in the vid with what makes rotary fail vid. Have too much respect for you sir and keep up the good work, can't wait for the next vid (p.s I love the the 3 rotor the most 🙈 and I'm from the uk)
is anyone going to a acknowledge the "kum & go" gas station? hahaha
27:22 the laughs.. even his brother has it. Fucking adorable. I’m a grown ass man and this makes me happy.
Good job. Enjoy that build. For some reason mine just sits on the lift.
I completed gran turismo 1 with this car. It’s the most modifiable car in the game in the 90s if I remembered right lol.
Prime footage of me having a bad time at 4:30 lol. Nice to see you out here buddy. Small engine fire, got it sorted, won the class so all went well. Hope to see you on the podium with me soon ;)
Was looking for this comment, was wondering what happened since I saw that you won the class lol. Congrats buddy! -Scott
I love your passion Rob, keep being awesome.
Rob, you're living the life! Good on you bro!
You could try to tune out the mid-throttle jerkiness with tip-in enrichment, but I think that’s a bandaid at best.
Once you car passes a certain level of power/throttle response you have to look at the way your pedal box is arranged.
Street car pedals are usually too high up and too far apart to facilitate anchoring your heel (pivot point) on the floor between the throttle and brake.
If your heel is anchored, the only body mass you have to keep steady during turns and bumps and breaking/acceleration is your foot, instead of your whole leg up to the thigh.
Having said that, I have NO idea if you’d be able to stay in Street Mod if you replaced the factory pedal set.
Isaiah out there KILLING it with a mullet matching Hawaiian shirt/short combo...
Hey Rob, love the vids as always you and the crew delivering as per normal. One suggestion when your out on the track work on getting your gear changes done allot sooner as this will help the car be better setup for corner speed and exit.... I was always told slow in fast out. all the best and keep up the good work.
Happy father's weekend to Dad
"Something is burning under the uh, it's probably power lines or something"
also Rob
"This is getting nuts, this car is very solid"
never change Rob lmao
Love the sound of the 3 rotor ❤
Very Cool Event, popz Enjoyed the Drift Action, And Team Dahm got Tract Time 🚴🏼💥☁☁☁
that lug crimper you hit with a hammer is the only kind of crimper ill use on my battery cables, never let me down in the 15+ years ive been using it.. doesnt cost but like 20 bucks
11:33 you know you were thinking "Big brothers gonna get you!"
Clicked on this so fast! I purposely take my lunch breaks prematurely to watch
It’s not quite the same, but my kids took me to the indoor kart track, and I was shocked at how hard I was breathing by the end of a race. Forgot about that all over rush when you’re trying to stay with the pack, and I haven’t had that since the dirt bike days a few decades back. If you can get your dad giggling, it’s a good thing. I have great kids, and all three drive the hell out of those karts.
Rob just a tip from my own experience.Whenever you use a thick wire like that i would recommend to actually solder where the you crimp it with the lug just for extra safety but also better contact between the wire and the lug. Also over years these tend to brake loose and create resistance which results to heat at the point of contact.
You could tin the wire before crimping and then heat the lug with the soldering iron afterwards.
No experience with car wiring in particular but that's how I do it for other high power applications.
HEY the TurnIn guys are from Cincy where I'm from! I drive by their shop a couple times a week, right on the side of 71! Good to see the local boys rep.
We need more videos with you and your dad.
Hey use a strong return spring on the throttle pedal and that will help considerably with the throttle bounce
That's actually a good idea
Isaiah I freaking love that you love Subtronics just as much as me…..Cyclops nation!!!!!!
Love how son and dad Dahm have the same laugh.
0:45 Loving the Doreen Larkin hair.
love the texting and driving montage at 1:44😆
harbor frieght hydrolic crimpers ftw...i love mine, glad you found a solution.
Yessss!! More content!!!🎉
Satisfied with the engine sounds and those sweet turbos ❤
Always enjoy your uploads. Between yourself and Garrets channel it's a hard choice
Cars real nice
Push it a little more,
Gear down before the corners and let compression assist you in going around the corners , that gives you a better launch outta the corners.
I think you need some more Dyno time to do some driveability tuning to work out those stutters. Dyno power runs are done at full throttle, so the fuel map is made under full throttle. Most of your problems were at less than full throttle but still under high load. I notice it breaking up a lot at right above the mid range as it's really coming in to power. Other than that she's sounding great and seems to handle like a dream 😎
The 4 rotor is super cool but I believe the 3 rotor is probably faster on a roadcourse. The Japaneese did a great job with the suspension and chasis straight put of the factory. I noticed the car needs turning but the brakes and handling looks really good. Rob is becoming a better driver little by little so that will help with lap times. Rob looks like you are having a ball. Keep the videos coming and brap on
I love how one of the street mod rules states "cars must retain full dash, climate systems and CONTROLS" 🤫🤫🤣😂
sounds way too awesome!
“Did this model of car come with this engine from the factory?”… Rob ‘It came with *an* engine, yes’
Fun Fact: Alfa Romeo pulled this tomfoolery at the Nurburgring 24 hours. They entered 147’s with 5 cylinder 2.4 JTD’s, when the 147 only came with the 4 cylinder 1.9 JTD’s at that point.
"we'll find out".....the master of the cliffhanger
I still can't believe that Rob, who has millions of dollars in cars, been on Top Gear, widely recognizable and an icon in the rotary world, and he still rents a trailer from uhaul lol
Seemed like your car handled better than the others you were following. I think you'll be well into the 1:30's when you get to run some clear laps.
After sooooo long of watching these cars getting built to finally see some driving is so awesome. What a payoff
Keep it going love the video's
The 4 rotor sounds great but I’m ngl the 3 rotor is my favorite
