I don’t have a cover for the feed dogs. I set my stitch length to zero which seems to work fine.

Isn't it wonderful that there are many techniques to try? In the olden days, free-motion embroidery was done without any foot at all!

I am wondering if a small muffin fan could reduce motor heating.

You could try it for external cooling off, but it wouldn't eliminate the overheating issue internally. The motor needs to cool down completely using this technique, so that it does not overheat the electrical wiring. Good question!

How about using rulers and ruler foot. Will it will work

Good question! No, it will not work with this foot because the foot hops up and down and does not remain constant up against a ruler.
