      @@PoplarMechanic hey great video - I like you style - its straight up and down (not a biased review on gifted gear)
      As an older guy now retired who once did tree work (finished 1983) and looking to climb for the fun of it and prune some of my trees, its good to hear you say you double line (moving rope?) as that's all I know. This SRT stuff seems all the rage now
      I like the idea of SRT tho to get up (too old for hip thrusting). I just can't work out the best interchangeable gear. Sappy trees are not an issue here in Australia. So am thinking a hitch with pulley for DRT and add a rope wrench and tether for SRT. Is that a fair call?
      oh year, its just an idea but it'd be nice to see a video of when you'd prefer to double line and when you use single (static line) given that you straddle the two camps
      take care

      @@tuberider1171 hey man glad you enjoyed the video! , so yes I have grown to love srt, Its a really slick set up once you get used to it. I mainly use double rope on evergreen trees, its also really handy on crane removals when you want to ride the ball, set your slings repel down and just pull your rope out. Then for most wide span trees I use srt. I think the wrench is a great place to start, Its cheap and you can always switch to double on the fly. Hope that helps Stay safe my friend!

      I have one and I’ve sidelined it to use on a Captain with a pretty thick rope (Stein ACR 12.4 mm). I found that one the same rope on different days the same settings didn’t work and that’s just too picky for me. Much prefer my Rope Runner Pro for my main line and it teams up well with the Akimbo for traversing etc

    Qs for ya I have been useing my akimbo on yale bluemoon and really starting to like it even more smooth then my runner. But sometime as I get to different spots on my rope I have to adjust it little bit to make it not to tight then again when I get back to different spot. Has your experience with xstatic been any better at this or more consistent so to speak? I’m about 180lb so guessing similar to you

    • @PoplarMechanic
      @PoplarMechanic  Před 4 lety +1

      There can be inconsistencies in friction on rope surfaces especially if you have a more used section wich all of us usually do. So with my runner I had this issue but I honestly haven't noticed it with xstatic, xstatic holds its shape the best of any rope I've used. Personally its becoming my favorite for srt. If you dont need a new rope though I would try to adjust it to accommodate the tight spot and run it like that all the time. Mine never gets tight on me. You dont want to creep but you dont want it to be to hard to break either, alternately to that you could leave it and eventually the device will get smoother in those tight spots as it breaks in. Hope that helps! Stay safe 👊

      @@jeremyrosenahagen4577 yes it knots really well I use alpine everyday for tip and base anchor. One thing i will add is some people have had the akimbo fall down under no load because the stiffness of the rope. It isn't a big deal though . Just thought I'd let you know.

    Hello.
    I'd like to know your opinion.
    Which device do you think is friendlier.
    Zigzag + Chicane or Akimbo?
    Which device runs smoother..
    with which climbing is less tiring?
    you save more strength.
    I mean generally ... apart from changing weather conditions.
    I have a zigzag ... I would like to change to Akimbo.

    • @PoplarMechanic
      @PoplarMechanic  Před 3 lety

      Hey man, I don't have the chicane, but im sure its probably smoother overall than the akimbo, I have a reon rounds tether and zigzag wich is very similar to chicane, I don't use it alot for two main reasons, 1- its not midline attachable and 2- its a much longer device on the rope, wich can get annoying, I personally love zigzag for double rope, I use akimbo for srt almost all the time now, hope that helps be safe brotha 👊

    My question is, when descending, are you able to dial it in to where the top and bottom don't touch? I'm wondering if I'm not quite heavy enough (150lb) to get the device to operate optimally. I know R.E. says the top & bottom assemblies are NOT supposed to touch, or even nearly touch, before you begin descending but I have not yet been able to achieve that; even when nearly min-ed out (lowest settings).

    • @PoplarMechanic
      @PoplarMechanic  Před 4 lety +1

      Hmm, I'm able to descend without the top touching the bottom for sure. The weight question is difficult I'm 180 without gear so I'm not sure about your situation. I think that just means make sure it's not touching before you load it. So what's your concern? is it tough to lower yourself or are you worried about the top touching the bottom during a weighted decent? I mean as long as it grabs you when you let go I think your fine. Make sure the device is functioning properly to, Like the spring loaded cam. Also some ropes are better than others. Hope that helps.
