    Socks are considered preferable to bare feet on tatami. But you're right about no slippers. (Shoes are, of course, not worn anywhere in the house in Japan anyway.)

    What is it good for? Is it a meditation room? Or a room for prayer? Or a formal dining room that you only use when you have guests? It definitely sounds like a very special room which is not suitable for children...

      It is just another room in the house, often a relaxing room, can be a dining room, living space as well as a sleeping area. :)
