Stihl MS180 BEST HOMEOWNER CHAINSAW? | 5 YEAR Review (With Wood Cutting)

- I have owned my Stihl MS180 since 2018. I’ve been cutting fired wood, trimming trees, and cutting railroad ties for about 5 years now with this chainsaw. It’s been a very reliable inexpensive chainsaw. It’s not the best wood cutting chainsaw as you may want something larger but it would be a great storm clean up chainsaw, tree trimming chainsaw, or back up firewood chainsaw, or second saw for another operator. It can process firewood all day, it’ll just take longer due to the small engine.

I can't understand why people do a review of a brand new saw that they've never used or gotten accustomed to. A "5-year review" is a true review. Good video.

Awesome review, Much appreciated from Lismore NSW Australia
Hi Derek, greetings from Sydney, Australia. Thanks for the honest review. I have 2 Stihl chainsaws (Stihl 010 and MS291). However my 010 is starting to have reliability issues. It is almost 30 years after all, so I can’t complain! Anyway the MS180 looks like a good replacement for the 010. I think I’m gonna get one.
The MS180 seems like though it seems like it really depends on where you live and how many trees you have. I only had to cut down one tree recently and probably will never need to cut down another tree. I bought a $53 Greenworks corded chainsaw and it worked for chopping down the tree.
If someone has a large property or the ability to cut a lot of wood a Stihl is a good option. I'm just the type of person who doesn't see themselves needing a chainsaw very often and I can get away with using an extension cord and a really cheap saw.
Have had this chainsaw for less than 2 years and have not fired it up yet. Always use the Ryobi brushless with 18” bar. Wanting now to use this but unsure on how to proceed for the first time starting up… they never fired up for me at the store to demonstrate. Too lazy to haul it back to town for a full on demo. Any words of advice?
A few things. Do the starting procedure on the saw, it should start up fine unless there is old fuel in it from the store testing it or something, don’t run it at full RPM for about the first hour of its life for the engine to break in and the rings to seat. Make sure you use mixed gas. Thats really it though. Good luck.
Where is the video of co.paring them?
Coming this summer.
"Stihl" waiting on the 180 vs 170 comparison video you said you were going to make?
Collecting footage. This summer, during my wood cutting season.
Good? Sure.
Best? No. There are better options.
For same price? Doubt it
It’s gone up about $20 since I purchase it six years ago.
