That's the joke.
It actually is if you think deeply. Harry and Luna had a lot in common, only difference is Harry had his fame and friends. Luna like Harry always felt like outcast, both were bullied and no one truly understood how Harry felt but Luna did. She'd also lost a parent very young, she was called crazy often just like Harry was that year. So yes, Harry is just as sane as she was.
Because Luna wasn't crazy, she was different and different doesn't mean crazy.

apparently Evanna Lynch was in hospital when there was an Order of the Phoenix book signing, her family managed to get her there and she had a long chat to JK about Luna because she was Evanna's favourite charachter, JK said that when Evanna got over her anorexia she could come and audition for the part, so she did, and that is why we have the perfect Luna to make these perfect scenes.

It's in the train ride home after the fight in the department of mysteries where the only people who fought alongside him apart from Ron and Hermione were Luna, Neville and Ginny. i know someone like her but they went through a lot of trauma to get where they are. luna as a person makes me so sad because her and her family went through so much trauma. while luna seems fun and bubbly and chaotic, she also can’t sense danger, and her father (while he clearly loves her) doesn’t really know how to be a proper family. poor luna :(
i have an innocent friend and a cousin that was like her but both of them suffered severe trauma from family my friends father is abusive and alcoholic and my cousins stepfather was also the same until i speaked up about it and helped her live with her father instead

There are. I know one very very closely.
But interestingly enough just like the 2 comments before me, she suffered a lot of trauma and emotional abuse. Its really sad and yes, they are as innocent and pure as they are hurt. They become like this (living in their own world, very random, speaks very weirdly and generally considered by most to be just as weird) because their minds are trying to cope and shield them from the pain. just imho.
They can be both the sweetest and adorable people you ever met but also some of the most difficult persons.

I really like how Jk potrayed their friendship and how Harry can lowkey relates to luna. Especially when the last part of book 5 when harry felt depress about sirius death and luna told him about the archway in the ministry. He felt comfortable talking about Sirius with luna.

Forget that Ginny is by far the best girl for Harry (which she is unquestionably), Harry is not a good fit for Luna herself! Harry wants to settle down, while Luna wants to travel around the world exploring various interesting places to find new creatures. Additionally, Harry is often rather dismissive of her in his internal narrative, whether it be her personality, appearance, and viewpoints. And we don't see that in the films, obviously. So while they are very good friends (and rightfully so!) in a relationship these incompatibilities would come to the fore.

I actually like they did more scenes in movies with Luna and Harry, than in the books. The actors had great chemistry together and they showed their friendship beautifully in movies. Also I think that Evana was perfectly casted as Luna ♥️

One of my favorite moments is in Order of the Phoenix; Harry is distancing himself from everyone due to all that's happened the previous year, and Luna brings up that, "If she were Voldemort, that's exactly what she'd want Harry to do." After that bit of wisdom, Harry opens up to Ron and Hermoine.
And the scene where she asks about casting a Patronus-- she helped Harry get a kickstart on Dumbledore's Army, easing his nerves and reminding him of what he had learned/accomplished thus far.
...and also, the lion hat scene in Half-Blood Prince, just... ah. She is a pure bean. ❤
