  • The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel (CBBT) is a 17.6-mile (28.3 km) bridge-tunnel crossing at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, the Hampton Roads harbor, and nearby mouths of the James and Elizabeth rivers in the U.S. state of Virginia. It remains one of only 12 bridge-tunnel systems in the world. (Wikipedia) It's also a toll road with a high price to cross!

The Ches Bay Bridge Tunnel is basically a short cut to the other side of the bay. To go around the other way to get to the same place cost much more money in fuel and food prices and hotels if you don’t want to make the entire maybe 12-14 hour trip (I mean if you were going all the way around) in 1 day, taking into consideration multiple rush hour traffic locations. Not counting the many hours of travel time wasted and maintenance on your vehicle that is created. And you have to travel around the DC and Baltimore bypasses which is similar to driving in a NASCAR race for hours and the folks who drive those bypasses will age you very quickly since they are all extremely aggressive drivers. If you consider all the factors $14 oneway is cheap. The fees are used for the maintenance if the bridges and tunnels, if you consider they are both in and over salt water. I lived in Virginia Beach for 20 years and ran volunteer rescue for 10 of those years. My station was 2nd call for the bridge tunnel for emergencies. So, I have been up there for some horrific traffic accidents. Keep in mind, in the 1990s the bridge tunnel was only 1 two lane bridge and the two tunnels. They added the second bridge that merge into the tunnels and then exits back to two bridges. Price was $10 back then (free for ambulances and fire trucks). Anyway, drove the tunnel to Annapolis MD a dozen times a year to visit my daughter and grandkids. The ride up the eastern shore is soooo much nicer.

Been watching your car life into van life transition and am enjoying very much!! I am having difficulty with the audio. When you are taking I can hardly hear you so I turn the volume up. Then when the music plays it’s super loud. Maybe a tweak to your audio is needed.
I’m worried about your Gastro problem. Did you ever figure it out. I am currently suffering from a mystery Gastro issue that’s been reoccurring for many years. I’m working with my dr and not giving up or in this time around! So don’t take your symptoms lightly and make sure you figure out what is going on before you end up like me. I also want to give your parents a shout out! They love you so much. Your mom is so cute wanting to do whatever she could to help and be a part of your van build.

That bridge is expensive - and I live further north up the Bay. The bridge you are on is part tunnel to allow the large barges and ships to come up the Chesapeake to the Port of Baltimore which is a huge shipping port on the east coast. If they didn’t build the tunnels that bridge would have to be 150 feet high. There is another bridge that crosses the bay just outside of Annapolis. It is a gorgeous drive as well and costs $4.50. You only pay the one direction for both bridges. Hysterical video!😂😊

It takes a lot to maintain the bridges and tunnels here in good ole VA. Had you taken 64 to 95 to get to Maryland you would have had about a 3 to 6 hour drive... Depending on construction, traffic and oh them accidents unless you found the alternative 301 route that would take you through most of scenic D.C. and still a 4 hour trip. I actually liked Maryland the first time when I went back the second time and had to work there for two months I hated it and drove back to VA like I was in the fast and furious. Even my kids were like this will take you til 12 in the morning if my then boss drove back and I sent a text message to them, Nope I'm driving.
My oldest son's reply was oh! So in 4 then?
Me, 3! I'm taking my shortcuts to avoid the BS.
I showed up in 3 and a half, had to make a pit stop for food and a bathroom break and I looked like I was driving 2 Mr. Daisy's who were like next time she drives us anywhere out of State and back home that was the fastest they ever got home lol.
