    Holy cow, I JUST commented on your spinach & kale vid and the next one that played was this video and I needed this info too! I'm actually dehydrating blueberries right now to make pemican. Also, making pemmican is a good way to save any berry fails since you have to over-dry berries and meat ANYWAY to make pemmican.

    Nice video thank you. I use dried blueberries in oatmeal every night. I plan on also trying using a vacuum chamber to split the skins and see if that might work. When I over dry I take a paper towel and wet it with distilled water, wring it out well and then place the fruit in a plastic container with wax paper on top then the towel and close it for a day or two to rehydrate it. Works well every time I've had to do it. Thanks again I like your easy style.

    My granddaughter bought a smaller size of the Ninja at Target, my intention was to grind citrus peels for using in cakes and meats, so I had dried orange and lemon peels, was ready to ground them, well not only I overloaded the machine I ended burning the motor, sooo disappointing and embarrassing, I had to confess to my granddaughter that after just two uses I had ruined it! Well I found ur channel and boy have I learned tons....one very important lesson....pulse!!!!! when ur using these appliances! I also love to try dehydrating fruits and veggies and I been watching every video u have made as long as I can find them. I was given an air fryer that has a dehydrator build in, I'm going to try it and see how's it turns out! It came with instructions as how to use. Hopefully it will work for me bcze I don't have the money to buy a "real" dehydrator for now. Got a wish list: canning jars, sealer and now dehydrator, in the meantime I'm learning all I can about gardening and preservation, thank you for your videos, I'm subscribe! 🤟🙏💗

Small harvest but enough for a few meals! And is sooo joyful!!! Thank you God for all my blessings! 🙏🤟😊

    Can commercially frozen blueberries go straight to dehydrator without any prep work? If not, what prep work would need to be performed before dehydrating? Which do you think, provides the better end product; dehydrating fresh or frozen blueberries (or any other types of fruit --fresh vs frozen)?

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  Před 3 lety +3

      You can do frozen, but protect your trays or thaw them ahead of time because they will likely let out a lot of juice. I've only ever done fresh, so I can't compare. I only use my frozen for smoothies.

    I'm trying my hand at powders again this year but I've been somewhat apprehensive because so many of the uses I've seen are for grain and dairy based products, but I don't usually consume those things. I have blueberries in the freezer right now (originally for jam but I try to keep my sugar intake to a minimum as well) that I've thought about dehydrating and making into powder but I'm just not sure what I can do with it. I'm going to try making tomato sauce with the tomato powder and I haven't been able to find a single reference on the internet but I'm going to give sauce from apple powder a shot. That's it though. My squash powder has just set in the jar for a few years now and I'm afraid my berry powders would do the same.

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  Před 3 lety +1

      most of the time, yes. Sometimes it is just because it wasn't dry enough to powder in the first place. But compaction clumping when it is dry, yet still clumps up, is sugar.

    if your intention is to powder it anyway, is it possible to "over dry" ? I am trying to make lime powder for the first time and It is taking a long time for the slices to dry to breakable, but I don't mind because it has to be crisp to blend up to a powder better, right?
    I've got bags of frozen blueberries and it would be so much less space to dehydrate them into powder especially since some of the recipes require them to be blended into other ingredients anyway! If I "overdry" them, I could store the dry berries whole in a sealed jar and just powder them when I need some, right?
