I have just watched this video and realised that I saw you thatching roofs!!! We were passing by and my mum said to me "look there is a person thatching roofs!" And I was like oh he looks like thatcher joe and i didn't really think about it that much and then I just saw my mums car!!! OMG

This is very cool, Joe. I also decided to go the way of a trade instead of sitting in an office. Now I make quite a happy life as a bread baker.

I have considered a trade as well. Actually baking is one I have considered. Do you work for someone else or work for yourself? I have considered getting into baking of old fashioned breads such as real sourdough and various multi-grain breads. Something about baking that just feels so right.

I work for myself. :-) It does indeed feel right. That's the kind of bread that I make. I'll be building a new oven soon, and hopefully that will make it even better. I'd suggest finding a local bakery and trying it out for a while. It's a lot of physical work and getting up a 3am to work a 16 hour day is not for everyone, but you might find that it is for you. :-)

ItsCleapatrah Only a few CZcamsrs are going at it as a real job. With them, they may or may not make money. Depends on the topics covered and how popular they become. As with anything internet based, a successful CZcamsr can lose their income. It is wise to have a backup plan.

RosePetal SIM It's like being a director, actor, film crew, and editing team all in one. They also go to events to meet fans, sometimes traveling across the world. They spend HOURS editing their videos, some even work more hours than a normal job, Anthony from smosh is said to work between 60 and 75 hours a week. It's a very committed job but like being a celebrity it's very hard to make it big. Also editing a video is such a meticulous thing to do I don't think people really understand how hard it is on a professional level, they also spend A LOT of money on lights, a nice camera, editing software, computers ect. It's like being a director, actor, film crew, and editing team all in one.

Most enjoyable vid, young man. Back about '82 I.think, I was with a tour group in England. My fourth trip. As we went through a Cotswold town. He navigated the narrow lanes expertly and there it was. A traditional Cotswold cottage with a man thatching the roof.We all debarked and got to watch him for a while. We were told they were no longer allowed open fires if the roof was thatched and a sort of netting was placed over the top to keep the birds out. I like seeing a youtuber who can do something besides talk and act the fool on camera.And encourage young folk to think about career training. Not that there's anything wrong with what youtubers do.

That was really interesting. Building codes in the U.S. wouldn't allow that. Fire insurance would be a nightmare. It would be very easy for embers from a chimney or burning nearby structure to catch the roof on fire.

Yes and some houses even have wooden shingle roofs. However, straw has a substantial surface area and is relatively light, allowing sparks and embers to ignite it. I also believe wooden shingled roofs might be prohibited in some places in the U.S. and the owners insurance rates are probably higher if allowed.

Oh oh! I just heard about thatched roofs. Apparently in the time Shakespeare lived, the Globe Theatre had a thatched roof, like most theatres back then, and it burned down twice. One of the times was because they were putting on a play about King Henry the V I think and that shot off a cannon for sound effects, needless to say that cannon shot off a little spark and lit the Globe Theatre up. The 2nd it burned 3 years before Shakespeare's death, and since we know Shakespeare died in 1616 that would have been 1613. Then the started to build it a third time in the 1980s, making it what they believed it looked like.
