This is the most professional tutorial I've ever seen on CZcams. On top of that, you completely understand what it is to be a teacher and how to teach a piece on the piano. This was so clear, I hope you produce more content of that quality.

I can only play an octave with 1-5. Unfortunate how small hands make many pieces from Chopin and Liszt essentially impossible to play (properly).
Still, thanks a lot for your tutorials, Paul! You are an amazing pianist and teacher. :)

Thank you for this fantastic tutorial Paul, it’s very valuable. I’m not an advanced pianist and the notes on fingering are very helpful. I’ve been learning this piece for about 10 months and I’m currently working through the doppio section, again your help with this section is very helpful.

Excellent control, I couldn’t agree more about the expression and dynamics on the Doppio Movimento section. I’m covering Op48 for an album. Id love to hear some Scriabin on this channel!

Also quick tip: at 7:36 instead of rolling the chords, you can put the top notes to your right thumb. It sounds much nicer

Hi Paul, this is a great tutorial for a wonderful piece. I'm currently learning this piece for a performance, and I was partly inspired by you to take it on. I have listened to quite a few of your tutorials and I'm grateful for your dedication to sharing your knowledge.
One area for feedback is I noticed that you play a wrong note at 23:20. Your right hand melody plays an Eb instead of E natural in the 2nd half of the 2nd measure (both in the slow and at tempo takes). It should go C E F G, rather than C Eb F G due to the E natural sign at the beginning of the measure. It is a very challenging piece! Cheers!

I now study this piece. Look at 19:29 fingerings in the left hand. So stupid Paderevsky recommend to change 2 and 3 finger to play the same note in places like this. At a high speed it is so inconvenient. Though Paul do this using one finger and it is wise IMHO.

Great theory but it hinges upon pretty big hands if you're female. 1 and 4 for white key octaves from above? 😅😅😅

  • @slyowusu99

Excellent video. You actually make it sound reasonably easy. Lols.
Question. Given such pieces are best played from memory, what is the best way to learn a piece like this?
In bits, say 4-5 bars till memorised before moving on? Or sight reading large sections till memory kicks in?
    Thanks
