    If GP re-release the Laureato 38mm in blue or black, I pick the GP over the IWC anytime. The IWC Val Fleurier movement is used in Baume & Mercier Clifton and you can buy it for just $3000.

    I recently had the opportunity to hold the Ingeneur in my hands alongside the Laureato, albeit the chronograph. I had actually never seen a Girard Perregaux in person before. I had hardly paid any attention to the Ingeneur, I was so impressed by the quality of the Laueato. There is not much to compare them to, the Laureato is clearly the higher quality watch. I can see it at a price like the Ingeneur currently costs. But I wouldn't spend more than €7500 on the Ingeneur.

    IWC by far for me. I was really disappointed with the Laureato fit in person, the IWC proportions are much better, I also find the Ingineaur dial more interesting in person. As for the movement, the 120 power reserve is far more functionally useful vs the superbly finished open caseback of the GP.

    I have both exact versions as shown - Love them both. I bought Laureato in Germany 4 years ago with a 33% discount so have not been affected by the price drop that watch gives you the second you have bought it from an AD. The IWC I bought from the AD last year - the customer service has been great with IWC - so much so that I have ben invited by IWC as a guest for the F1 in Zandvoort this year. I have to say you & I have a very similar watch path in terms of purchases etc. Greetings from the Netherlands!

      Damn, in NYC, I think you’d have to buy every model in the boutique to even be on the long list of people they might one day consider giving F1 tickets to, and even that might not be enough. I know at Omega on 5th Ave, until you drop around $200k, you aren’t a particularly appreciated customer (which is wild considering that’s like 20 pieces unless you buy super high end ones)

    I just looked on Chrono24 this week for both, new/unworn, with box and papers. In the U.S., the price of the Ingenieur vs the GP makes the former a ridiculous choice, unless you really love it, of course.
    If the IWC had a display case back and got rid of the crown guards, the price might be acceptable, but as-is, the GP makes more sense, from AD, grey market, or 2nd hand.
    Also, you note the GP market price has dropped a lot but the IWC hasn’t, but I think you’re missing the word “yet.” There is zero chance the Ingenieur price doesn’t drop another 10%+ in the next 12-24 months.

    The Ingenieur felt very lightweight, as if the links were hollow. The brushed surface on the top of the case did not seem entirely flat. The GP is a cut above.
    - Yes, more environmentally friendly packaging is fine, but Breitling went too far. They used to have a leather travel case in a cardboard box. Now it’s a weird affair made from recycled plastic bottles. It does not feel upmarket at all. There should be a tiered system so when spending over £7k you get something else.

    I’m actually considering which watch should i pick for this category of sport watch from GP, AP, Zenith, IWC and Chopard. I think GP might be the best of all worlds from high horology, design, wearability and price, but its hard to justify because its an all-arounder and not just standout great at any one thing.

  • @alimurtaza4110
    @alimurtaza4110 Před měsícem +6

    Have handled both few times and have come disappointed each time with the GP. The bracelet and case finishing is not upto the make of Alpine Eagle (my choice in this price category). It trumps AE in movement finishing but everything else, AE is the winner.
    Here, only edge GP has over the IWC is the movement finishing. IWC comes ahead in wearability, more interesting dial to look at, and slightly cheaper retail pricing. I don’t feel too much of a difference between case and bracelet finishing. If anything, I prefer IWC. My choice will be Alpine Eagle followed by IWC between the $10-$15k price range.
    That’s my opinion only.

    Thank you for a thorough review. I have the Laureato, so I’m absolutely biased, but the subjective thing I really dislike about the new Ingénieur is the fake screws/rivets on the bezel. They look too small are obviously are not functional. Their spacing seems off to me as well, which is probably why I find them too small. I greatly prefer the last Ingénieur’s design. No beveling or dimension of any kind, it looks like they're just plopped right on the dial straight out of the milling machine.
