  • This is an iPhone 7 with what is being called "loop disease." The term ins unfortunate since your phone will not necessarily exhibit boot loop but in most cases boot up time will be significantly long and the record button in voice memo application will not be functional.

    What I’d like to know is WHY, as it did with me, why did this anomaly seem to happen to so many people after an update.

  • @avmech00
    @avmech00 Před 6 lety +5

    It takes longer but doing all 4 jumpers will prevent warranty come backs, believe me just had one that I did 6 months ago come back and it was one of the 3 pads I was not doing the jumpers on at that time. Great video by the way very in depth and well done!!

    • @GoCellPhoneRepair
      @GoCellPhoneRepair  Před 6 lety +1

      Thank you. Were the symptoms the same on the one that came back? I coulda sworn Jessa Jones made a video where she disconnected the other three and everything still worked. Is it possible that the C12 jumper failed? Really curious because initially I was doing all four and that changed my mind but yeah, don't wanna have to worry about these coming back.

    • @avmech00
      @avmech00 Před 6 lety +1

      It was a little different in that the voice memo was not greyed out but it took forever to boot. My understanding is 2 of the other 3 are looked for during boot and even though they do not fail nearly as much as C12 but it happens. On this particular phone the 3rd pad with a trace came up while I was tinning the pads after IC removal so that was a direct indicator it was my problem.

    Watching this on an iPhone 7 :)))
    (iOS 13.7, no audio problems to this moment). 2 years of use, i tend to avoid putting the phone into the pocket or elsewhere where it could potentially bend a bit, so i guess that is why it still works

  • @GregM
    @GregM Před 6 lety +1

    Have you tried using solder paste that is somewhat dried out? People have reported using drier paste prevents balls from popping out to to the flux that is already in the paste. It also means that applying the past you are actually adding more solder rather than flux.

    • @GoCellPhoneRepair
      @GoCellPhoneRepair  Před 6 lety

      I've experimented a bit with more and less flux but always using the same paste. It's the Mechanic XG-50 type. It's always in the fridge to prevent oxidation so how would you recommend going about drying it out? Or is there a different type that I should try? For the most part it works well for me especially now that I know how much flux to add and of course the 3D stencil but always open to trying different methods.

    Great video, but I don’t quite understand why the jumper was needed. I thought the issue was only with the solder pads?

    Is it possible to just replace the whole audio ic assembly with a new one instead of soldering the chip?

    • @helamanarrigo1249
      @helamanarrigo1249 Před 4 lety

      Tim Bronson
      No, it’s connected to the logic board by solder so the only way to do it without soldering is to replace the whole logic board which is pretty expensive.

    This just happened to my 7 last week, I'm actually surprised my phone has made it this far, I did drop it once off the roof of my house at least 27 ft down, but it ran down the roof line then off the gutter and fell the remaining 19 feet to concrete. OTTER Box saved it....

    When repairing the iPhone 7 audio chip, do I need to reconnect the jumper wires? It seems like a difficult task, and I wonder why the connection is necessary. I'm trying to DIY at home, but it looks difficult.

    • @GoCellPhoneRepair
      @GoCellPhoneRepair  Před 8 měsíci +1

      The most common source of audio IC issues is that there is a fault causing the C12 pad to become disconnected from the audio codec circuit. Without adding the jumper wire, you will most likely not be addressing the problem. FTR, I have never added any other jumpers outside of C12 and after hundreds of Audio IC repairs, none have returned with any audio related issues.

    How do you orient that IC chip? To me it looks like a square with no position indicators. Does it matter what way it goes on or is there a specific side the goes in a specific direction?

    • @sarahwreisner8718

      Under the microscope you can see some written words on the audio chip. Often you cannot see with naked eye. This is how I know the correct direction of the chip when I place it back on the board.

    • @GoCellPhoneRepair
      @GoCellPhoneRepair  Před 4 lety +7

      That pad is part of the manufacturing defect that causes this audio problem. The jumper is a fail safe so that when the pad lifts up off of the board, and they eventually do, it will still have a point of contact to the resistor.

      In my experience there is considerable risk when working with an A1660. For that reason I prefer not to service that model unless the customer is okay with accepting the potential outcome. In the end they might still be able to get something through Apple if that is the case. On the other hand you can sometimes reball/replace the BB PMU and get modem firmware back. As far as other models go- so far so good. I've done 200+ without issue.

      Apple is not equipped to do this in their stores. You can see if they will swap you out for a refurbished phone (maybe maybe not) but outside of screen and battery replacement Apple stores don’t really do repairs.

    Lazy working..... 😂
    Why you don't clean all pads and IC with wick, to remuve old solder but you just mix them!??
    When reball I never put/mix flux with solder paste in stencil, and need to make 4 jumper not one, to have life time warranty 😁

    • @GoCellPhoneRepair
      @GoCellPhoneRepair  Před 5 lety +3

      Thanks for the comment. I am interested in hearing how you have come to these conclusions.
      Outside of concern for oxidation- which should be eliminated with fresh flux and heat- why are you concerned about leaving the original solder in place? These joints are not under stress as would be something like a charge port so to my knowledge evening them out is more sufficient and acceptable.
      Wicking in this situation is totally unnecessary according to most professionals and I would tend to agree.
      When I reball I always use a small amount of flux in the stencil as it allows for easy removal. Is there a reason you know of that makes this problematic?
      As far as the additional jumpers I realize that this is a point of contention within the microsoldering field but based on my experience with a couple hundred iPhone 7 and 7 Plus audio IC repairs I've had only one that needed an extra jumper on J12 and that was because another shop tried to repair the phone and ripped the pad off of the board. Is it possible that you are doing a lot of extra work? So far no problems/redos here over a two year period.
