My daughter went to the store and said they are making not American Girl but Mattel and they are selling plastic trash. She has the money to buy as a radiologist and she told them she would not longer waste her money. That is sad as she had the first American Girl white body Samantha, and when she graduated med school in NY, she wanted to go to the NYC store down the street from where she graduated and get the doll of the year (Jess) and she did for graduation. So she is devoted to American Girl, Pleasant Company dolls and has purchased so many for her children and yet she is done. The quality is not there and when it is it takes too much effort. The ski chalet and the associated parts with the dolls was the last for her. She said too much plastic.

When I was a child I used to think that barbie was the standard beauty, and because I did not look like her I thought I was ugly. Once I discovered the AG dolls, and that I can have a doll that looks like me made me feel so happy and gave me a confidence boost. The mini me made AG so unique and the concept is very jmportant for children. Seeing ag slowly shifting into the typical unrealistic doll is very disappointing for me

Regarding the colored haired dolls: I remember growing up with Monster High and seeing them have beautiful dyed hair. I've wanted to dye my own since I was 14 but I would normally get discouraged by my mom. Since I was starting to get into American Girl and loved Isabelle, my mom bought me pink extensions to simulate the doll's. I get what you're saying when kids live through their dolls because it's not far from the truth

My Feedback to American Girl: I don't like the eyebrows & eyelashes. I am taking a break from their dolls because of the direction the dolls are going in. I plan on buying retired dolls that I have really wanted for years. I will still be purchasing doll clothing but I am not in love with the thinner bodies and the makeup that they have given their dolls.

As soon as they announced the new line, I had a bad feeling in my gut. I knew I had to buy truly me 80 and 81 because they would be probably be gone for good. You're absolutely right about the quality control. When I got Maryellen, there was a literal string coming out of her wig. Why are these dolls so expensive when they don't even care to check the quality?!

::Sighs:: Sounds and looks like AG is going the way of most other big brands - gradually cheapening the products while raising prices (seriously, the house is 600 EMPTY and without the closet?? Make it make sense!).
Thank you for your opinions. As soon as I discovered that they did away with all of the old Truly Me dolls, I instantly went to Costco and purchased #67 and #82's set. Searching Amazon for more, too...

My "Just Like You" doll I got in 2001 came with a completely blank "Meet ____" book you could fill in. The problem was it had just as many pages as the historical girls' meet books, which was super intimidating. I was 5 at the time and my ADHD was running wild so I only ended up filling in the first 3ish pages, but it was a cute idea and it's hilarious to go back and read as an adult. 😂 I love how these new All About Us books retain that character building concept while being far more doable for kids and adults alike. I find the rest of the rebrand very disappointing and concerning though.

it makes me so upset that american girl is transitioning their style and branding. i’ve also noticed this with many other doll brands. a lot of dolls are now made very bright and bold, in a sense of being “more appealing” to the younger audience. the quality also isn’t as great as it used to be. as an adult collector, i wish they’d stick with the more classic styles and molds, but i understand their decisions. it’s definitely a change and will take some getting used to, but i really hope they don’t change their entire line to this newer style

I like how they changed the concept of Just Like You from outside match to the inside match. Now a doll doesn't have to look like you to be your mate. Now TM line is a line of your soul mates, not your twins. Though my 12-year old managed to find among these 25 new dolls the one that looks just like her, moreover her doll wears the sporty outfit and this outfit is the one my dd likes the most! And, admit it, their marketing team is genious in finding ways to bring more money to Mattel. It may be not a good thing for customers, but they are so damn smart!
The book is also a great idea, since we're foreigners and this is the way my kid is practicing her English.
The thing that I don't like of what is going on with AG in their Mattel era is that they use synthetic materials more and more, and cheap materials don't last long.

I feel the same way. I never had a JLY doll but remembering when I was a kid, there’s no way I would have chosen a mini-me. I likely would have gone with the opposite of me lmao or a doll with pink cotton candy hair!
I have a cousin that’s the same age as me; she was blonde and I was a brunette. We used to get dolls for Christmas, I always got the brunette doll and she got the blonde. It got old fast - I wanted the blonde doll! 😅

i HATE the lashes so much. i don’t mind the bottom ones, but the top ones look so odd. but the face paint issue is awful, along with all the quality control issues. i also don’t like the new brows either. i just like the simplicity of the old dolls. i think the lashes are okay with the wbu and girl of the year, but lashes on the historicals and truly mes is crossing the line🤣
i also miss the “mini me” aspect. i would always and still call truly mes “look alike dolls” because that’s what i think of them. my first doll was a look alike, all of my friends had a look alike. it makes me sad that aspect is gone, especially with all the coloured hair.
i do love the all about us book though!! such a cute idea, i hope someone scans it and uploads it online because i want to fill it out for all my dolls.

I don't like the painted eyelashes because the dolls have weighted eyes. So when you lay them down, they still have eyelashes sticking up. It's creepy. I think they look good from far away, but as you said, when you get up close, it's not the best quality. I'm still a huge AG fan, but that's why it's so frustrating!

  • @agcellie
    @agcellie Před rokem +4

The quality is terrible and everything is going down hill. AG has had times like this before, like the Tenny and Logan thing in 2017 but nothing compares to this. I am disappointed in so many ways but okay, why did they add lashes!?!? They aren’t even printed correctly! I know a small amount of people like the lashes but they are influencing children to want to look like their doll, to wear makeup! Like why did AG do this!?? And the thinner bodies is so inconvenient. Also, I went to a AG store recently and felt the new TM doll hair. I don’t understand why but it’s weird and almost a sticky texture hair!!

I got TM121 from AG and her eyelashes are perfect and subtle. Her waist is only 1/2" smaller than Elizabeth's which is fine since the bodies vary in size. Her vinyl is not smooth like earlier dolls. I am fine with her as she is and have no complaints. I didn't intend to keep her in the meet outfit so I changed her clothes. What sucks to me is that the boy dolls can only have the “sporty” and “strong” categories and they can’t have the “Sweet” “Artsy” or “Wild” ones. I’m a boy and I’m very artsy and I don’t understand why the boy dolls can’t be artsy/sweet/wild and it just feels like unnecessary gendering.

The new TM outfits remind me of the dress style on the CYO app (when it was active). I don’t have any CYO dresses. I do have a stack of shirts.
If they used the fabric and the same dress style, the new outfits are basic and cheap with new prints running across the fabric. The dresses have no consistency on where certain images will show up on a dress. It is just a big roll of fabric with cookie cutters cutting the fabric for a straightforward simple design.

  • @melangellperry5984

Dolls- I don’t have any yet. I’m only interested in 3 or 4 of them. Meet outfits- the active one doesn’t bother me, but the eyeball dress is a big WHY? The eyeballs are creepy. I do agree that the accessories should have come with the doll meet and a more generic accessory set offered. The dollhouse-preach! They had so many opportunities to do this well and this is what we got, Barbie Dreamhouse. Sapphire doll-why are we getting holiday Barbie? The nutcracker outfits/doll was cute. Stop already.

She is probably the first character doll to be released and to not be on the next catalog cover after her release. September could have been a focus on Claudie in stores and in the catalog. They could have released the new TM dolls in October and still been on time for Christmas.
I heard a Podcast interview with Connie Porter, who is the author of Addy’s books. Before she created Addy, she had a conversation with Pleasant Rowland on which historical time period they were going to present. The Harlem Renaissance was one of the possibilities.
Writing about a character during the Harlem Renaissance was discussed 30 years ago. And AG did not give her a month to be the newest release.

I used to love the colorful dolls. But this line the fear that I had with the streaks ie. Natural hair with color streaks unfortunately came true with this line they look chalky like they were given racing stripes or someone spilled paint on them the earlier dolls the color seemed to blend. Take a look at the Street Chic line the Cool in Cameo and Zebra Dress had those natural with color and it was done tastefully. And worst part if even natural hair with natural streaks ie. Brown hair with light blond highlights also are also unattractive and chalky or like they were given those highlights in a Salon and should really ask for there money back.

I see the Holiday dolls on second hand markets all the time and nobody seems to want to buy them. Therefore, they don't really have value in my opinion. As for the house, when I was a little girl I probably would have said "WOW", when I saw it the store. Then, I would get it home and realized you couldn't redecorate the rooms by moving the furniture around, etc.(what few pieces there are); I know I would have rapidly gotten bored with it! When everything is just painted on the walls, where is the room for imagination or interaction? I say, "Boo" American girl! Also, where are the beds?!🤪 As for the new TM doll, I like my girl's lashes (#115) but, if you tried to put lashes on all my existing dolls, I would be extremely sad! It makes me disturbed when I realize kids (budding collectors) may not have choices or even remember how sweet and innocent the dolls used to look!😐

I've been a huge fan of American girl since 2006 when I was super little and my sister had a Marisol magazine, I was too little for American girl but I loved them ever since, my first doll was felicity, and then I got mckenna years later and I loved the quality and I just remember the excitement of American girl. You always felt like you had the best quality doll out there and it was so exciting. But as time went on the quality just got worse and worse. I got lea and she was still good quality, and then I got Gabriella, loved her too even though I was salty about how they did that. But anyway, once the dolls got released into toys r us in like 2017/2018, I noticed horrible quality, the permapanties were awful, the wigs started to feel different and cheap. And even now the dolls just look so cheap to me. The bodies look skinny and the cloth on the bodies looks different, the faces even look off. It pains me when people try so hard to act and sound superior but fail to use words correctly. Also, i think you meant that whatever it was irks you to no end, not to no extent. Unless you were trying to say it didnt irk you at all.
