    Starting Point: E Broadway goo.gl/maps/Z6pKGXnASZv .
    Eugene is a city of the Pacific Northwest located in the U.S. state of Oregon. It is located at the south end of the Willamette Valley, near the confluence of the McKenzie and Willamette rivers, about 50 miles (80 km) east of the Oregon Coast.[7]
    As of the 2010 census, Eugene had a population of 156,185; It is the third most populous city in the state (after Portland and Salem) and the county seat of Lane County.[8][9] The Eugene-Springfield, Oregon metropolitan statistical area (MSA) is the 146th largest metropolitan statistical area in the U.S., and the third-largest in the state, behind the Portland Metropolitan Area and the Salem Metropolitan Area.[10] The city's population for 2014 was estimated to be 160,561 by the U.S. Census.[11]
    Eugene is home to the University of Oregon and Lane Community College.[12][13] The city is also noted for its natural beauty, recreational opportunities (especially bicycling, running/jogging, rafting, kayaking), and focus on the arts. Eugene's official slogan is "A Great City for the Arts and Outdoors".[14] It is also referred to as the "Emerald City", and as "Track Town, USA".[15] The Nike corporation had its beginnings in Eugene.[16] In 2021, the city will host the 18th Track and Field World Championships.[17]
    Annual cultural events
    Asian Celebration,[87] presented by the Asian Council of Eugene and Springfield, takes place in February at the Lane County Fairgrounds.
    The KLCC Microbrew Festival[88] is held in February at the Lane County Fairgrounds. It provides participants with an introduction to a large range of microbrewery and craft beers, which play an important role in Pacific Northwest culture and the economy.[89][90]
    Mount Pisgah Arboretum, which resides at the base of Mount Pisgah, holds a Wildflower Festival in May and a Mushroom Festival and Plant Sale in October.[91]
    Oregon Festival of American Music,[92] or OFAM is held annually in the early summer.
    Art and the Vineyard[93] festival, held around the Fourth of July at Alton Baker Park, is the principal fundraiser for the Maude Kerns Art Center.[94]
    The Oregon Bach Festival is a major international festival in July,[95] hosted by the University of Oregon.[96]
    The nonprofit Oregon Country Fair[97] takes place in July in nearby Veneta.
    The Lane County Fair[98] occurs in August at the Lane County Fairgrounds.
    The Eugene/Springfield Pride Festival[99] is held annually on the second Saturday in August from noon to 7:00 p,m. at Alton Baker Park. A part of LGBT culture in Eugene, Oregon since 1993, it provides a lighthearted and supportive social venue for the LGBT community, families, and friends.
    Eugene Celebration[100] is a three-day block party that usually takes place in the downtown area in August or September. The SLUG Queen coronation in August, a pageant with a campy spin, crowns a new SLUG Queen who "rains" over the Eugene Celebration Parade and is an unofficial ambassador of Eugene.[101]

    I stopped into Eugene about 43 years ago to visit some old friends from Madison, Wisconsin who had moved here. I wasn't planning on moving here, but within 24 hours I was offered a good job. Four years later I went back to Madison to get my stuff. I've moved away from Eugene 3 times, but never managed to stay away for more than a year. After the last time I left, 25 years ago, I realized Eugene was probably the best spot on the planet for me to call home. I will never move away from here again. You can actually go to a store in the morning and buy some pot, then go snow boarding in the Cascades for a couple of hours, and then drive to the coast and go surfing if you feel like it.

    I went here once on the way home to California from Portland. I was here an hour or so, and I've never felt more at home in an environment like this. I've been wanting to return to Eugene for almost two years now.

      supreme god leader great Pepe the Frog you should try living in other places. It'll broaden your horizons. Eugene can be a great place to live but there are several things that aren't good about it. Sure, there are ups and downs to every place you can live but Eugene's charm got lost on me pretty quickly. Property taxes and housing costs are outrageous. Multiple bums on every street corner are also not appealing. Not to mention the 6+ months of cloudy weather can turn some people off.

      supreme god leader great Pepe the Frog well it doesn't personally bother me as much as the other things I mentioned. It does suck not being able to play with your kids outside for half the year without getting soaked because of the near constant rain. Also for people with depression, not having direct sunlight for so long has a really negative impact on their life. One more thing: the BBQ in Eugene is below average compared to Texas' BBQ and Cajun food is non existent.

      If u don't like rainy days or gloomy weather do not move to states like Oregon, Washington, etc. But don't say it just sucks because of the weather because one: many people love the weather like that.
      two: other states have incredible amount of intense heat from the sun and that's even worse.

Its because the city has revamped down town. A lot of the college kids, bus system, library, and small businesses are surrounding the area. But witin 3 to 5 blocks over you could find cheaper rent. #eugeneisagreatcity

      @@biohazard_613 so all the homeless in Portland and Eugene (which I've read) is because they are all druggies right? Does it affect the rest of the community? Why isn't the state government take all the homeless away to a rehab camp or something? Or they actually want it that way?

    • @biohazard_613
      @biohazard_613 Před 5 lety +2

      Aeon my knowledge about Portland and its issues is about none because I avoid Portland like the plague. I only know what I’ve seen on TV and read in the papers and online. I won’t speculate on their issues. I’ve worked with the homeless in Eugene in the past, 1997-2013. They’re not all addicts. Does it affect the rest of the community? Yes. State government is the biggest cause of our chronic homeless issue. We used to have sanitariums where people could get help. They shut down most of them. Do they actually want it that way? In some ways, no. In others, yes. I can get more specific if you’d like.
      To summarize my personal views on this topic, the homeless themselves are not our problem here(with a few individual exceptions), our local governments response to the issue is.

    Whenever I've visited Oregon including Eugene, I'm in shock how many homeless there are. Yet in this video I don't think I saw a one. I didn't see any buses either, which I usually see on Eugene streets. I do like Eugene though, but I admit it's homelessness, and Politics do not benefit hard working residents. High income and property tax fund that state. Meaning with the high % of welfare recipients in the state. The worker and homeowner is forced to take care, of many that don't contribute.

    I have decided after reading the posts below, that it is wise NOT to move to Oregon. On research on Internet, Eugene does have ghettos and has a high rate of poor and homeless. BUT, it also has a good high intelligence rate and education. It is a beautiful place to live and do things outdoors, BUT....it is very liberal. Also, is expensive, but not nearly as much as Virginia and parts of Maryland and New York. You would have to find a good paying job. Idaho and Eastern Washington state, would be better.

    • @urban7rat
      @urban7rat Před 6 lety +3

      Assuming you are a white male, how would it being liberal even affect your daily life personally? I understand when it's the opposite (race minorities or gays scared or worried about conservative areas possibly being racist or phobic) but I was not aware that conservative dudes could also be scared of liberal areas.
      Genuinely wondering

      catsintexas I live in a city in eastern Washington, we have a ton of homeless people and druggies, and we have ghetto areas here, too. Also, if you're moving here because of political reasons, you'll be disappointed to find that there are lots of anti-trump people here. If you're considering eastern Washington, consider wisely.
