@@galaxy_musicc no problem nice video by the way :)
Misses #frog_synth (Frog Concert) and #turtle_synth (Ziggurath - Jungle Majesty)
I was sure there are many obscure subgenres, but ngl Prehistoric Sloth Synth caught me off guard.
Same lol. Mammoth synth is wild too
Lmao!
😂 I love how it's basically just Harsh Noise Wall but with a different name
Szóval innen jött a videóötlet!
Valahogy éreztem, hogy itt valahol megtalállak.
aka any black metal subgenera known to man :]@@idiotkid2828
"Classic Dungeon Synth"
Me: Oh that's cool
"Prehistoric Sloth Synth"
Me: My life is changed
Mushroom synth will change the soul
lmao
yeah prehistoric sloth synth is Best In Show here
Dinosynth forever
many of these artists should be hired to make soundtracks for movies or series
THE POINT IS TO MAKE MUSIC, NOT SOUNDTRACKS
Remember to listen to your dessert synth only after food synth.
The Epic Medieval Synth has almost come full-circle back to the Black Metal roots of Dungeon Synth. Amazing!
While Firienholt certainly have some elements of Dungeon Synth in their music, they are a atmospheric/epic black metal band, not Dungeon Synth. They do have a longer synth track, though. "The Depth" out of the Beside the Roaring Sea EP:
czcams.com/video/JJBGFR46-uo/video.html
Currently in the year long process of making the most in-depth d&d setting for a game I’ve ran. Gonna have cities, towns, and even individual shops have their own songs just for them and it’s all gonna be dungeon synth
Have fun!
Is it possible to share your playlist here when it is done ?
I am really interested in such a project !
How did your plans end up working out? Was it worth the time?
Are you using full albums for areas or individual tracks?
@@ontolog5871 I plan when I’m done on typing up all my world notes and putting it all online for free along with songs and everything
I find it hilarious the ridiculous degree to which people break up Dungeon Synth into subgenres. Like its to the point where a "subgenre" might only have a single album in it. Its very silly, and not in a bad way. Just the fact that "plant synth", "nature synth", and "forest synth" are separate things demonstrates the silliness pretty well. As well as "prehistoric sloth synth" lmfao.
i dont rly care what subgenre it is but this format is very nice to find new stuff to listen to.
the depressive, funeral, romantic, raw, dream, mushroom and dark are my favourite synths
I see a lot of friends in this list. Pretty damn cool and it shows that there is more behind dungeon synth than it looks like, that is worth digging into...
Thanks for including me as the example for sea synth! Fans of my work in that area should immediately check out Serpents Isle as that project was the main inspiration for a lot of my sea based work!!
You are creating great music dude!
Keep it up!
It's great to see "Tales from Southern Realms" in your video! Thanks for including me!
Of course! Its an amazing Album!
Sry for misspelling "desert synth" tho...
But since you delivered the theme so good, I think everybody knows what its supposed to be!
It's the turtle pope album people
You guys have forgotten all about 1970s physics documentary synth
That’s just Boards of Canada.
Cacophonous DS: 💣💥🌋⚡
As an ocarina player loving 90s fantasy RPG music, this video gave me tons of inspiration.
check out Chestnut Brown (labelled plant synth here) for some RPG hometown music with plenty of ocarina
@@juckjolly Wow, you’re the best! Though that songs’ ocarina sounds synthesized, I got plenty to happily listen to.
6:17 keller synth low-key kinda fire tho
Keller Synth high key fire dawg
@@eraserheadbaby25 i meant low-key since it's (saddly) a really underground genre
it sounds like some dark trap beat
Then you have to listen to sigfrid, He invented it
Cacophonous dungeon synth sounds like a perfect genre for noise marines from wh40k.
Wanna thank dungeon synth for getting me through my exam revision a while back.
This is like if someone made a video called "50 subgenres of metal" that went like this:
• Viking metal
• Pagan metal
• Folk metal
• Epic metal
• symphonic metal
• goth metal
etc. etc. etc.
For me it's all mostly Cacophonous metal. :D
yes... your point being?
@@joelebruno Point being I doubt these are actual subgenres of dungeon synth. What makes desert synth different from Egyptian synth? Or pirate synth from sea synth, or samurai synth from kabuki synth?
All these distinctions just seem pretty arbitrary
@@whatever0whatever0 but pagan, folk, viking, goth metal are all real subgenres.
@@joelebruno Viking isn't. And I'm not sure I'd consider pagan metal a subgenre, either
Imma need a playlist with these
Recently Weregnome records, the label that released my album “Primitive Baptist & The Oldest Time Traveler in the World”
Said that my album was progressive dungeon synth which was very sweet of them 😂
I’m really proud of that little LP.
And it sounds really good! Keep it up!
@@galaxy_musicc haha thank you!!! I’m actually working on a follow up to that album as we speak!! This video ruled btw.
The amount of dedication to this is amazing! Keep it up!
I love listening to this stuff while reading classic epic fantasy and sword & sorcery books. It even works good with classic cosmic horror and gothic horror literature as well.
Pumpkin, Keller, and Dino synth the best, Pumpkin Witch, Opiated Devilsperm, and Diplodocus go hard as hell
2:04 wow Plant Synth is so beautiful
Gonna lurk in the dungeon of lagotar with this one🗣️🔥💯🤍💚
it's wonderful that there are so many people in this world to make the things i come across tangentially
Dessert synth sounds delicious 😋
Dungeon synths name began to appear everywhere. Good!
Ok I challenge this guy to find 10 songs for each of these genres… Some of these have got to be one offs haha
I would love to see a video game with a Dungeon Synth soundtrack. Just add some pixel art graphics and good gameplay and I would play it in a heartbeat.
Fantastic sampler video! Thanks!
You forgot vegan progressive blackened pineapple synth
10:30 Vanishing amulet is really a masterpiece.
perfect video before sleep
Memory box of Grandma Cottage is my favorite Comfy Synth álbum
Thank you for including my music. 🤘🙌
Thank you for making it!
Didn’t know there were this many styles of dungeon synth
There aren't, for this to have any halfway official meaning, there would need to be more entrys for the categories and the projects talk about their style in detail (which doesn't happen)
Now go and find a top 3 album list of "Plant Synth" and what makes a DS album trve kvlt Plant Synth,a good timewaster but nothing that will have success as its more made up than Supernatural X Dr. Who fanfics. Reading "uncomfy synth" should make you chuckle but calling Ziggurath "Dessert Synth" really takes the cake home
Ahhhh the Typo-Police.
Jokes aside haha
I dont think anyone can decide how a artist wants to call the style of his project. If the artist wants to bring a certain idea, motivation or feeling across by naming their music, for example "desert synth", then thats completly fine. I think in most of the Projects in this list, you can clearly hear the direction they wanted to go and naming it a certain way just helps people to find, remember or even create it.
Of course there are some streches and jokes in here, but to say its all just made up is wrong.
@@galaxy_musicc don't get me wrong,if an artist releases an album with a certain theme (like using instruments and tunes you'd associate with a desert for example) and slaps "prehistoric/dino synth" on it,its his choice and valid in that regard but thats not the same as creating a whole sub-genre as no one follows trough and walks in the same direction.
you may be right when it comes to subgenres. But Carlos asked about styles and I think there is a big difference between a "style" and a full blown subgenre. You probably could put all of these examples in 5-6 subgenres. But they still have different styles or themes. The Artists just decided to name them.
@@galaxy_musicc That's actually a really interesting perspective. I'm on the side that says a subgenre should be well populated to be meaningfully useful, but even within genres artists can have very distinct styles and I could see value in putting a name to them (although I'd still want the greater subgenre given as well, since that's what will allow people to find related artists more easily). This especially makes sense as an approach to something like dungeon synth which is typically trying to evoke very specific imagery in a fairly minimalist way.
Wow, thank you very much for this list! Here are so many cool and interesting projects. I'm just so bored by everything I was listening, so dungeon synth is really like a breath of fresh air - something very unusual.
loved this, well done
Nice vid, ended up supporting some of these
Love to hear that!!
"Dessert synth" is a seperate subgenre from "food synth", amazing (you misspelled "desert" :P )
Haha, you are right
@@galaxy_musicc YEah, but it makes me want to actually create "dessert synth" so it's not all bad
Nice job, thank u so much for this 💚
Egyptian synth just straight up sounds like something out of a Prince of Persia OST
Food synth feels like a night of bad dreams and stomach ache.
Thanks for the reccs!
Love this genre
9:27 Yum! Delicious dessert synth!
Brb gonna download every one of these tapes
5:36 10:50 11:11 11:32 13:38 15:24
Feels like I’m playing either Legends of Dragoon or RS2 for the first time again.
These tracks have no reason to play on my nostalgia like they do.
Love that you used cursed pumpkin instead of pumpkin witch, threw me a bit I a curveball there
Loved this 🥹
That was really cool, DS has come a long way. I'd be curious to know what genre I've been doing.
just found out about dungeon synth, loving it.
Yes, its amazing!
Just found out about food synth tho
Very informative, thank you.
Came for Dessert Synth, but all I was served was Desert.
1:46 that's that good shit
Amazing video
gold
Outsider Dungeon Synth sounds like the soundtrack of the PS1's classic _Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver_
Now I want to get back to doing dungeon synth.
Yed
Do it
I know it's not super well known, but my fave subgenre of dungeon synth is Jestercore, coined by the artist Snailhorse.
spellbound mire was one of my absolute favorites from last year
This video just reaffirms to me that I like synth.
I've always known "Epic Dungeon Synth" as "Age of Wonders music" because it sounds exactly like the soundtrack to AoW 1.
God that game had a great soundtrack...
very helpful thank you
I've only been getting into dungeon synth very recently. I explored just about all types of metal music, everything from thrash to goregrind to warnoise, so I decided to look for something new. I'd been slightly exposed to dungeon synth through black metal but I hadn't checked it out proper. So far I'm absolutely adoring it. I love how it sounds so futuristic yet so pre-modern. It makes me feel the same way I felt when I first discovered atmospheric BM.
15:14 this is literally atmospheric black metal at this point lmao
Very useful.
Hermoso!!
thanks a lot
Dream synth = 70's prog concept album midsong pause
*_Surely, there MUST be DRAGON SYNTH??_*
_By the gods..._
For me, Each album is its own genre
Prehistoric sloth synth reminds me of noisy sludge.
My theory of every dungeon synth album being its on genre seems to be true
Prehistoric Sloth Synth is my identity.
Kabuki synth is pretty cool.
9:36 But what about Dinner synth?
I'm so happy there's "winter synth," I have a playlist of songs that sound winter-y
This is also my favorite on the list!
It's funny... I just came from a video which argued that NSBM and RABM are subgenres of black metal distinguished solely by their lyrics. I feel like it's in a similar way with dungeon synth, only the subgenres are instead defined solely by their aesthetics. As if the band name and cover art defines the subgenre far more than the actual sound of the music. It's wonderfully anarchic and I love it.
Right
The one that I know and is missing is Tropical Synth
Think declaring everything its own subgenre is a bit overkill. Meanwhile just started hearing Diplodocus (Dino Synth).
So in conclusion. Its just synth music aka electronic ambient which resembles different themes due to trigger certain emotions to that topic? I always thought dungeon synth is within the themes of literaly a dungeon (as an underground labyrinth etc) but it's now spreaded out. Like having a fantasy dungeon located in e.g. a prehistoric world or discovering lush environment down there. The inner of a Egyptian pyramid or a japanese forest. Some of them reminds me on soundtracks of those trashy 80s babarian comic animations. For my own taste i prefer those that are nearer to the old school, raw and dark stuff that makes me feel like being in a dark and gritty environment/dungeon. (80s/90s roguelikes etc) My favourite is winter synth.
Food synth is real.
what is the one for depressive dungeon synth? cannot find it anywhere
you left the hobbit/tolkien dungeon , like hole dweller
Wallachian Cobwebs , vampiric dungeon synth.
What exactly differentiates cacophonous dungeon synth from the noise genre?
God I love dungeon synth
That Lurk tho... whew
My soul
ishkur's guide to dungeon synth
On his bandcamp, the guy called 'Kytketsuki' pretends that he paints with his blood...
I mean his paintings look like blood, and age like blood would, seems to point at the fact he does paint with blood
Neat.
I knew a few of these examples
❤
I love this video but…..
No Secret Stairways, Shadow Dungeon, Fief, Mortiis (OLD), Quest Master…
Or even a Tolkien DS category?
Secret Stairways is the best DS there is. And Fief and Quest Master are legendary and the top class of DS! Fief especially.
And Tolkien Synth really should be a category. If you think of Jim Kirkwood, all the Hole Dweller albums or stuff like Thangorodrim or Keys of Orthanc, I think Tolkien synth is by far the biggest of all the DS categories.
