Best thing ever!!! Not sure why I haven’t done it before but I used mine for the first time this year. So simple
Its probably not a jammed lever, it's heat sensitive. It locks until it's cool
🍲😇
I'm old school, use to use Easy Off. It's so nice to do this now. I always think about it in the summer months and say I'll wait until it gets cold. Thanks for reminding me. I ran up on this video after you replied to my comment today, where your cat was smoking... Ha!
Thank you so much! I’ve been wanting to do mine. I rent and I never had a self cleaning so I wasn’t sure if I had to put spray and then put it. Also the landlord gave me a bottle of Frigidaire Cook Top Cleaner for glass top ranges. She bought it at Sears when we had one here. It works good to get that one burner clean mine is the same way. I have my favorite side. I think it’s because in mine it’s the only one that has the two sizes of burners. Thank you again.
Thank you. I have no idea why I've never cleaned out my oven with self clean yet. I was nervous it would blow up or something but found your video and it's in clean mode now 👍👍❤️
Just turned on my self cleaning feature today for the first time.. Thank you!!!
It's okay everybody has their favorite burner that they use 😉
I’m scared to use it.. 😳😳😳
I didn’t realize my oven had the self-cleaning option (thank you!) so I’ve been letting it run for the last 3 hours for the first time. Should be ending in about an hour 👍 Hope my oven ends up looking as clean and new as yours 😊
I don’t know how to use this feature so I never used it. Oh my gosh, it’s good I was looking this up because I’m never going to break my back again!
I was wondering when you said the door lock was hard to open after the self-clean, did you make sure the oven was cooled down before trying to open it?
If the racks aren't coated with the same stuff as the interior of your oven, then remove them, especially if they're shiny (chrome). Same applies to those (optional) roll out shelf devices.
For those who are afraid of those really hot temps, you might want to check into those "steam clean" ovens for light cleaning...
We purchased our home in 2011 and tonight I used the self cleaning feature. I'm still waiting, so I appreciate your tips.
WTG Elaine!!!
I need to do this tomorrow after I drop the littles off at school. 💗 Thanks for sharing w us.
You got this!
this helped me so much! we have the same exact oven in our college apartment and needed to clean it asap!
I'm so glad!
@@RunningKimono 👌🏻💕💕🐾🐾🐇🍲
I've seen that "clean" button on so many ovens and just disregarded it for some reason. I'll definitely be doing a cleaning cycle on my next day off.
Thanks for this video reminder to get it done!
Thank you so much for this!!!
When I got my new oven I didn't want anything fancy. Just your standard, electirc, coil burner range. The only two "features" it had to have was the self cleaning feature and black color (to match my dishwasher and fridge). I'm getting ready to use the self cleaning cycle this weekend for the first time.
I can’t wait to have my own place and get myself a self cleaning oven 🤤
You can do it!
Good video. Just a tip for anyone owning birds/parrots. Make sure to remove them from the home if you plan on using the self cleaning feature on your oven as the fumes can kill them.
Aww, like a canary in a mine :-(
She's right.. I read that in Google.. Tropical 🐦 dye with the fumes
Glad the temp is gonna drop again so I can do this!
This helped me so much ! I was about to get on my knees in scrub the inside of the oven but I’m like hmmm what this self clean button. So I pressed it then it said Lock Door. So I was like 👁👄👁 how do I lock the door? That’s how I found this video ! Thank you.
Glad I could help!
Wow, thanks for the tip. I just checked, my oven had a self clean.
a home quarentine miracle :)
Thank you for your video! It was very useful
I really need to do this. The glass on my oven looks NASTAY!!! plus wintertime is THE perfect time to heat up the house!! Thank you, xoxo
Mrsemptynester be careful, it releases fumes everywhere and could end your life if youbreathe too much in
Thank you for sharing 🤗💗
great video, thank you
I did this once and my oven got jam , my level wasn't on the outside like yours tho , It was in the inside and it would not let me open it . Which led to not using it and moving out the stove and taking the back out and flipping this switch and what not, long story short big headache! But hey yeah ur oven looks nice and clean !
I always use the same one as you. And thanks for this video as I watched it, I started mine as it has been way to long
I knew a lady that decided that the ash could be vacuumed out which I guess it could if you waited several hours after the over door was opened and everything really cooled. Well evidently the ash was still warm and she had a bag vacuum cleaner and about an hour later after vacuuming those little embers made friends with all the dust in the bag and her vacuum caught fire. I mean actually caught fire, blazing but her husband grabbed it and put it outside. Giggle it’s not funny but the story they told was hilarious! Thank you for the funny memory!
Thank you. Great video. Ot does work
Woooow! Thank you!
A self cleaning oven is designed with a mechanical interlock during and soon after to stay locked and closed 3 hours after to prevent any burn injuries. (Patented 1982).. Thats why your door wouldn't unlock.
I’m so trying this to night
I don't have that feature wish I did, but my Sis does and uses it on her oven and she leaves her piazza stone inside and she says that it looks brand new when done !!
Thank you!
The last ovens I had with self clean, I did like you and left the racks in. I would use a little vegetable oil on the sides so they slid easier. Now I have a newer one and it's time to clean. Debating on the old easy way or am I going to take them out and easy off them to keep them shiny
I had never owned a oven with self cleaning features so I would clean them once every 3 months... by hand. We moved on May and this oven does have self cleaning... today I tried it before watching the video 😂 guess I'll clean it now 1 once a month... and won't have to move a finger
its really fast way to clean oven (every nook and cranny gets clean with this feature) good luck!
Thank you ❤️
Also this is perfect time for northern folks to do this!
Very nice and informative video.
Glad you liked it
My broiler is broke. Do you know if that has to be working in order to use the self cleaner?
Ok, mine is going to get done
Does this make a scary smell and fumes in your house when you use the self-cleaning?
Does using the self clean feature burn up your stove and elements faster than just using a manual cleaner? We just bought n self clean GE electric range and my wife says using the self clean feature will destroy the stove. We had a self clean oven about 20 years ago and her experience with it was unsatisfactory.
Thank you! I've never used my self cleaning oven! I should probably wait until the weather is cooler.... what about fumes?
it does smell. maybe a day when you can open windows?
I'm scared such long hours it takes
just used my oven self cleaner for the first time 😂
Yes, I’m binge watching your videos 😂😂
ty :)
Gonna try this, haven't ever used it before but after 5+ years this oven is a mess. Always been afraid I'll burn down the house using it.
It can be very dangerous!
After manually cleaning my oven I realize I could have used the Self Clean option. Oops
Just did the same thing dude
Bert Bert lol, so I’m not alone. After discovering my mistake I waited about a week before using the self clean and it worked a charm. Before I did it I put my dirty oven burner grates inside the stove before doing the self cleaning process and it really worked a charm on them. I’m going. To run a second cleaning soon to finish them off.
@@Ben7seven7 Yeah bro I just spent hours doing all of this baking soda and vinegar bull shit lol I mean it looks much better but I'll just do the self cleaning tonight and finish it off. Also my grates gave been soaking in a bath tube for like a whole day and they still only look marginally better. Wasted so much time lol
Bert lol yeah hours soaking, gotta love it! I both soaked sprayed cleaner on and scrubbed a couple of my oven grates but the ones I just stuck in the oven for the cleaning process came out as clean as the ones I spent a lot of time on.
Keep in mind tho that even after running the cleaning cycle you’ll still need to clean up some the the ash which will have formed but that’s still a lot less labor intensive than what I did prior.
I almost killed myself using the self cleaning oven the smoke and smell was so bad even though it wasn't very dirty. They can be dangerous so I'm sticking to baking soda paste and vinegar.
i used the self cleaning feature on my oven and it got so hot that the handle and several other plastic parts that go to my microwave oven which is mounted over my oven just fell apart. if a microwave is meant to be mounted over the range shouldn't it be able to take the heat?
Try some "Bar Keepers Friend" on that burner, works wonders for me...
BTW from that kitchen I think we may live in the same complex, LOL, Cheap Bastards.
its in my cheap house this oven :)
Make sure you turn off any nearby smoke detectors unless you hate your hearing and your neighbors.
Smoke detector? But y? 🤔
aravind kumar Releases tons of smoke from the extremely high temperatures
Why do you have to stay home when you clean the oven? Is the smell strong?
Do anyone know how to fix the light bulb and their type of stove because my light bulb broke I guess it doesn't come on anymore and I don't know if I'm able to take it out and get a new one or what do I do please help me
I have a GE 2016 similar oven and I don’t leave the racks in. I see you did. So am I safe to do so too? Thanks.
Had this oven for 5 years, never had an issue
My oven won’t heat after using the self cleaning function. It blew a fuse or something. I remembered now why I don’t use that option. 😢
Do you have to let it cool down at all?!
I had to clean out my apartment and I spent about 2 hours cleaning my oven and it was such a pain in the ass. I know next time. Also, just a tip for everyone but don’t touch the element for the oven with your hand. Your hands have oil on them and can shorten the life span of the element. Not sure how much it shortens but that’s what I’ve been told by multiple people.
Iirc the oils thing is for halogen bulbs, as it can cause hot spots on the glass.
The elements are a heating wire with ceramic powder packed around it inside a metal tube
I have the same oven. Looks exactly the same down to a T. But I don’t have the flippin lock switch for some reason? Is it because I’m in an apartment?
how would i know that? Ask your landlord why their is no lock??
Thank you
Did you not have to remove your racks?
If anyone sees this of recent. DO NOT use these ovens around BIRDS. Not in even another room, not in the same house! They will die from whatever those ovens give off, please beware.
I have the same oven in my apartment and it ruined my racks when I self cleaned it. I found out later that I was supposed to take it out. Is there anything I missed? How come your rack looks fine free the cleaning?
I research it on Google , and it says you should take out racks out of the oven before self clean. It won't be able to substance high heat.. It can woult bend fade racks and woult the oven rack holder.
My lock is stuck it won’t unlock the overnight door
Does it cause fumes or smoke and if so is it dangerous for pets.( I have a cat).
Diane Fournier Mine smells pretty bad when we do it. If you’ve got central heating, it’s the same smell that you smell when you FIRST then your heat on after a while of not having it on. That’s the best way I can explain.
I did my oven last year I think (don't cook much) it seems like I remember my instructions telling me to remove the racks before starting this. So I thought the racks may not be durable enough to withstand the high heat for so long.
Sha Sha you definitely want to remove the racks. They discolor quite a bit if you don’t (speaking from experience).
This is a year late but I think if your racks are plain steel you'll want to remove them. If they are ceramic coated you can leave them in.
I read in Google it says to remove racks from oven.
Your racket will look like hers if you leave them in (not shiny anymore but clean). It won't hurt them other than that.
👍🏾 Definitely sub
Awesome thank you!
You should take the racks out before just a fyi!
Do you use any cleaning product before self clean? I had one but never used it before
GE also has a video on this and they're emphatic about not using any "oven cleaner", that can wreck the self-cleaning feature.
I don't know enough about how it works so I just don't use oven cleaner.
@@ChuckD59 You just turn it on. It gets really hot and won't open until the timer is done. I always take my racks out per instructions that came with mine. Trust me it works so good. Just wipe it out when done. I just used plain water to wipe mine out when it finished.
I don't use any oven cleaner. It gets so hot there's nothing but a few ashes in the bottom. I just take paper towels and wipe it out like Rachel explains in the video. Works like a charm everytime.
@@conniepr You are correct, Connie. Since my reply, I did it as you say and it cleaned beautifully.
On to the dishwasher...
@@ChuckD59 Exactly! I learned also in their tutorial that racks have to be removed as well since the temperature is too high.
My uncle said when he used his self cleaning "it almost burned the house down" in his words.. I'm scared of even trying it now. Does it usually start fire? Is that the normal process or
I have been using self cleaning for 10 years and no fires. If you have food residue or large pieces or large amounts of grease i would clean by hand.
Yes mine did too... it started a fire in bottom of oven (there was thick dried turkey grease that spilled from Thanksgiving) but it was hard and dry and I couldn't manually get it clean.. so tried self cleaner and it also started a fire inside oven thankfully it burnt out bc I couldn't get into stove bc it was locked..

Cleaning cycle is finally completed.
Self clean is completed.
Do not leave the oven racks in there. It warps them
I manually clean mine with metal scrub pad and water and towel , works amazing and takes 3 minutes and don’t have to use 4 hours of energy
Hopefully not on a self cleaning oven. They are made with certain metals to be self cleaning and well... that's what you pay extra for. 🤷♂️
How?!
We’re counting down from four hours to three, then three hours to two, then to 1h 30m, then the last 30 minutes, and the alarm goes off at 0:00
You first push the latch and it will lock the door.
Can u use the stove for cooking while the oven is on self cleaning? Can anyone help please?
no :(
The self-cleaning cycle may take four hours.
0:34 I understand how grease and grime get in there... but dirt? LOL
"Dirt" means different things to people in different regions. In some places it means earth, soil, the stuff you put plants in. In other places it means similar to filth, grime, or general small detritus. I expect there are some places in the US and maybe Canada where it means one or the other. I know this lady isn't British but dirt means the latter, filth and whatnot and not the stuff that you can grow plants in.
My door switch is locked I turned off the cycle because I have an emergency is the anyone who can tell me if I need to wait if I canceled it after 15 minutes ???
It should go back Alex? Give it some gentle pressure
Aren’t you supposed to take the racks out
1000 degrees during 4 hours. Girl, how's your electricity bill?!!
prob cost like 15 bucks to do.
This procedure is four hours long.
I do not like the heat at all. Not one little bit!
The cleaning cycle is four hours long.
Why does it take 3 to 4 hours. That is why I'm scared
slow cycle, that makes everything into ash.
I thought you not suppose to leave your racks in the oven
it works!
if the rack is shiny (chrome) then remove... see owners manual
with the oven at its highest degree for 4 hours, you would get a nice big bump on your electric bill
It got jammed because heat expands metal and the latch was squeezing against it's mechanism.
ugh :(
I am scared to use it it smokes up
I just turned off all my smoke detectors to prevent them from going off. It's pretty unlikely you'll start a fire since it's contained within your oven.
Mine did the same....I opened all the windows in the kitchen and living room....opened all the windows....then put a floor fans blowing straight out of the window closet to the oven....worked great...
I got scared and turned it off because of the smell lol
yeah, it will last for 4 hrs and then its gone. it smells like oven cleaner
I wait for a nice day: open all the first floor windows, close all your doors on second floor.
I hope you're not cooking dirt you say there's dirt in there
Well first of all I do not have that type of the stove which is nice I just moved into a new apartment and found out I have a self cleaning oven. I'm not happy about it I (hate it) because I am used to cleaning the oven on my own and using what I want on it I am "terrified" to say the least to use it with hearing all the story about all the smoke coming out people have to also have the fire department come out etc.. also it gets heated up to a thousand degrees smh that's ridiculous, me personally I think it's (very dangerous) and it should not be allowed in apartment buildings I probably would NOT be using this feature on my stove.
It's not 1,000°. It's more like 400°, but it's for 4 hours.
It actually is about 900° just type the question into Google before completely fucking guessing whatever you feel like is right?!? You sound stupid af saying 400° lmao
@@erwinfelis4613 Stoves go to 500. Self cleaning is a seperate option, because it goes up to 900°. Otherwise it wouldn't come as an option on more expensive stoves because you could just turn it to 400° for four hours. Why do you think the door locks for to get it into self cleaning? People like you are so irritating making up facts and telling someone else they are wrong. Fucking hilarious
@@jbussey314 I was wrong and I acknowledge that I was wrong. No need to be an asshole.
