I put the part number for the trim piece in the pinned comment.
I upgrade the trim on my G20 steering wheel to an M3 trim piece. This would work for the G30 5 series as well. The part number pinned works if you have heated steering, there is a regular version without available if you search online.

Oh for ffs, I actually bought 2 steering wheels and swapped just the metal trim part to get to this result. Was way more complicated as I had to unglue/reglue the metal trim. If only I knew the bottom part was kept in place by 2 screws... I thought it.s all 1 big piece 😢

spare wheel man, its takes up alot of space, on my 2 series i just gotta lift up the trunk mat/panel and its right there

@@izzoficialchannel3036 its wild i bought my first street bike ( 2006 ZX6R 636 Special edition ) and to install my new battery I had to take out the old battery of course. It requires the entire gas tank to come off, the fuel line disconnected & a bracket removed. Pretty wild and you can tell its really a track bike its kinda tedius but o well
i cried the first 5 seconds .. but then got happy
I decided to buy a real M3 with the steering wheel I wanted 2 mins into the job...
Lol nobody said these cars are easy to work on but you can always do it at home if you’re willing to give up your time.

I think the best idea is that the heated steering button is actually on the steering wheel it makes sense unlike other manufacturers!
My 08 Cadillac DTS has it on the steering wheel as well.
It’s so stupid that it’s on the face of the wheel now where it’s in sight and not used half of the year.

Remember to leave the battery disconnected for at least 20minutes to be sure the airbags have lost all charge when working on ANY of the dashboard. I like to wait 30 to be safe.

There is no need for waiting if you tach the terminals of the battery togather and leave the headlight switch on the on position.
After I disconnect the battery I always grab the positive cable and touch the chassis for a few seconds to ground out any potential energy stored in capacitors. No need to wait all that time

You dont need to disconnect the battery before removing the steering wheel on a bimmer. Just make sure car is off, if its on it will just give you an airbag warning light, it will usually disappear after reinstall, if its not, plug your obd then delete the error. There is no need to disconnect the battery for airbags amywhere araound the bimmer. If you are afraid to short red and brown wire together, dont be. They will never short unless you cut open the wires.
I work at bmw and it is mandatory to disconnect the battery to work with Airbags.
@@tobimanx7026 yeah, as an engineer we also put an emergency symbol that tells you dont put your hands on the hood while closing, you might get hurt. Specially in jeeps you will find many signs what you shouldnt do with your baby in the car, they are really funny. Of course every single person tells you to disconnect it, but you really dont need it. My job, in turkey, in my shop I only work with bimmers. I change entire car interior, changing seats, door panels, trims, steering wheels. I have never disconnected the battery. Nothing happened, nothing will happen. I know how electric works. If theres no negative, there will be no effect.

Always disconnect the negative terminal first and then disconnect deposive, after that, if you have a new car, disconnect both terminals and let it sit for 15-20 minutes for car to go to sleep, if you don't let it sleep or disconnect both terminals, when you remove the steering wheel, the airbag will deploy
Yesterday i changed the trim just removing negative terminal, did not wait and the airbag did not deploy.
Only a 16mm bolt to hold the damn steering wheel! BMW are scary

I'll never forget the night I was leaving a jobsite and one of my coworkers BMW X5 had a dead battery, and we ended up taking out like 200 pounds of tools and junk in the freezing rain before even getting to the panel and spare tire, it solidified my choice to never own a BMW, when something as simple as jumping the battery is a massive pain in the ass you know the engineers are R-worded

Pretty scary risky stuff fuckin around with plastic trim pieces that you touch every time the car gets driven. Then you brake a paddle shifter or trim piece and it’s like 500$

The real question is, what did that do for your weight reduction? I'm not brave enough to disconnect and unscrew all that for that.
Doesn’t matter whether u disconnect the battery or not still gotta be careful because the static from ur body can set off and airbag which is why u don’t go touching the connections connected to yellow wires in cars

Hey brotha! I have a question. So , I have a question for you, hoping you can send me in the right direction. So I have a 2018 530i and I’m going to do a steering wheel swap. I’m aware that the positive terminal from the battery has to be disconnected. However, there are 2 batteries. One in the trunk, and the other one under the hood. What’s the purpose of that front battery and I have to disconnect it as well to get the job done?

500hp from the 4 cylinder? How long is that gonna last? Yes it's basically a 4 cylinder b58 since the engine is modular but 2 less pistons equals more stress on the 4. Is this proven to hold? If so that's dope. 4 cylinder mpgs and good street power
I'll likely run it on the daily at 360 to 380WHP on pump gas and have the option to run it on E50 to make 400 to 420 WHP when needed. From there you could upgrade injectors which are just coming out or go port injection to make 450 WHP and should hold long term. Going for more might be asking for trouble with the rods but with a really good tune it could potentially hold but then you'd be facing restrictions in the cylinder head anyway. So more like 425 to 500 crank HP all day long and it lasting. Crank, and rods are forged, block is closed, pistons are relatively strong and the compression ratio isn't too crazy. Basically everything that blessed the B58 but with two less cylinders so it's not balanced and you need the balance shafts which are gear driven and not a problem on this platform. Being realistic going for 360 WHP as your beat on it everyday dune on 91 should hold indefinite.

It is an option now, not common but you can get a spare. It takes up a lot of trunk space though.

That spare tire is aftermarket I beleive. These come with run flats tires instead of a spare stock.
