Before I get rid of containers without lids I check to see if I can use them for drawer organizers.
I see if I can repurpose lone lids and/or containers. I have a big lone lid that in my oil cupboard keeps the drips away and easier to clean up.
I use them as scoops for chicken feed and dog food.
I love using them as drawer organizers! I've even purposely bought some from thrift shops / yard sales for that. Also, for sandbox toys, if you've got kids that age.

I took all my kitchen utensils (big spoons, spatulas, pancake flippers etc.) and put every single one of them in a basket in my pantry. I only put them back in their original drawer space after I used them. After a month I got rid of all the EXCESS utensils that were still in the basket & obviously weren’t getting used anyway.
Just thought I’d share this tip as it really helped me!
Thanks for the tip. I have a lot of the silicone spatulas. And in my mind I say but I use them all lol. I'm going to try this to prove to myself I really don't haha. Then purge with confidence.

Currently waiting for a junk removal company to come haul out the crap I got rid of in December before the holidays (with your help)! I was getting stressed about finding the “right” ways to get rid of everything, and I finally decided to make room in my budget (aka I got the crowbar out of my wallet) for a reputable company who will do that work for me. They will sell, donate, and appropriately dispose of everything rather than just putting it in a dumpster. Feels so good to have a clean, clutter-free home with systems that actually work for us. ❤️

I wish more people would repurpose things rather than just dumping them..
We have a pretty good recycling centre where I live that takes all sorts & has different areas eg old used electrics, metal, plastic,
old kids toys etc...
So I definitely don't feel bad about sending "my old stuff" there now..
My daughter just moved home with family in tow and we now have way more stuff then we have space and I'm very interested in finding out What type of company would sort and properly dispose of ones junk?

Me too. Defo all my brothers and sisters of various ages sing that. It’s like our family anthem. Now my 3 year old granddaughter also sings it. ( the good bits ) So cute ! 💕

Just a tip I use, food storage containers that are missing their lids can be repurposed as drawer organizers,
our family has a strict "No mug policy" when it comes to gifts for each other. lolol
I've lived in my house for over 20 years and I still move things around in the kitchen looking for the best spot. Drives my husband crazy. LOL
Yes! Just when my husband finally learns where something goes, I rearrange the cupboards. 😂

My daughters-in-law get exasperated with me for the same thing 😂😂. We’ve lived in this house over 30 years and I’m still re-organizing 😊😊.

I feel like pen roulette is everyone’s challenge. Maybe we are all wishful thinkers when it comes to pens...we wish someday that pen will work. 😃

Don’t have pens from hotels etc….they have minimal amount of ink.

I have that same style mug, with chip and everything 🤣. My kids call it "The cowboy mug" and like to eat beans from it!
I have an unreasonable fear that if I throw away the pen, it will decide it wants to work again...like if I just give it a little more time, it will realize it's potential 🤷🏻♀️
My pantry cabinets are over 22" deep. I use cake sheet pans so that I can utilize every inch of space. I can slide the pan forward and access everything in the cabinet.
This is something I need to add to my list for organizing ideas. I love functional and cheap ideas!

I have the opposite problem my top cabinets are only 11inches deep, I can by organisers but they are 11 inches result none of these doors close snuggly.
You are brilliant!!! I forgot to create a place for sheet pans when we renovated the kitchen. Now they are on top of the fridge and as a 4’11” person it is incredibly inconvenient. Time to do some rearranging
After 4 years I finally got pull out shelves, my life is complete😂

Maybe they'd work as pencil holders, or dog food scoops. Or for tea instead of coffee. Or even makeup brushes.
Cass I would keep the little “Cluckers” mug and use it to plant a succulent in it🌵 😁
Yes! I did this with my favourite mugs that were too large..one for a succulent and the other for fresh herbs 😊

Great tips! Thanks! Just one tip about recipe binders. I just photographed all my recipes with my iPad. Then I make different albums for them in my photos. No more paper recipes! If I want to make something I prop up my iPad on the counter and use the recipe. It’s great for traveling or at the cottage too. You are never without your favourite recipes!
Years ago,my husband made wanted the Tupperware to be only stored with a lid. At the time I was annoyed with his suggestion, as I consider myself an organized person. So, we got rid of a garbage bag full of plastic containers with no lids, and our drawer has been organized from that day forward. Your green containers, reminded me of that story.
Sometimes when nice pens run out of ink, I keep them thinking I'll buy refills.....but I never do!

I literally did this yesterday! Travel cups, coffee mugs, a duplicate strainer, an old cutting board that was gross, and a couple other things. I think your video must’ve uploaded into my head before you uploaded it to CZcams! 😂

I'm in a similar situation. I have a lot of beautiful specialty glasses which I inherited, even though I don't drink. Recently I decided to get rid of my regular glasses and drink water and juice from my grandma's crystal ware. Best decision ever, it feels so fancy.

I was just telling my daughter that I can't remember why I went into the kitchen, but I can sing certain songs from 30 years ago, EVERY word without even thinking about it. Strange what our memory bank holds.

Cass! Spontaneous Bohemian Rhapsody! I have video of our family headbanging & singing along this Christmas. One of the kids got a karaoke microphone for a gift. (Okay, It was from us.) It has Bluetooth so my husband put on his playlist.. Suddenly Rhapsody came on & the whole living room was full of us adults & teens singing along. The younger children just sat there with mouths agape. 😂

I have been decluttering, zoning areas, and moving things around, and now I am having to remember where I have put things.....lol My husband and others have said that I am like a squirrel.
Back when we lived in Japan in the itty bitty tinie tiny house, I literally had 3 feet of dead space like yours. I used it for occasionally used party and birthday supplies. I organized them in baskets and labeled them and shoved them back in the hole of death double stacked. (In northern Japan we had nothing to do so there were always parties and potlucks) So if someone needed to throw together an impromptu party, I would just dig into the organized hole.
We are moving to Japan! I have to get rid of practically everything and have been watching so many videos to help me ‘let it go!’ Not an easy task!
@@laurachandia9234 take my advice on this. Anything that you LOVE and will need in an American house when you get back....use the storage the government provides. The storage is free and although your giant bedroom set WILL NOT FIT in a Japanese house (depending where you are going) the cost to rebuy will be so much more. There was so much “regular American” furniture we had to sell when we got there and ended up having to by scaled down versions. It truly depends. When we were in Misawa single airman were able to live off base in 2300 sq ft houses and all the E5 and above families had to live in tiny 1500 sq ft houses that had (and I measured) 1000 sq ft of livable space. Make sure you connect online and find people that can send you floor plans. Ours sucked but the towers were way bigger but were only for E5 and below and they were huge. Best of luck. And do your research.
Parting with cute mugs..... if i have a mug with a cute saying I taking a pic and creating a colkage for in my coffee area to hang on the wall. Keep the cute not the clutter.

I do need to do more purging of things in my cabinets, and do some rearranging, but when your space is ridiculously limited, such as in my apartment, it is difficult to actually make it as efficient as I would like. I'm gonna keep trying though... my poor hubby...

Decluttering cookbooks - I have a few I would never cook from. However the rest definitely stay. They are my middle-of-the-night, can't-sleep (or get back to sleep) reading material. I don't know why, but reading cookbooks is so relaxing, and it's only a short while before I'm nodding off. They stay.

Oh my gosh yes, I consolidated my cookbooks into a binder a few years ago and made myself a promise that unless it was a gift for someone else I was never buying another cookbook again - and I've stuck with that so far. Coffee mugs - I used to have a huge collection of them (I'm the only one in the house who drinks coffee and only one other person drinks tea as well) so what I did just this past autumn is to get rid of the ones I never or rarely used, but the others I separated them so I can change them out seasonally. This way I get to keep the ones I love and use without keeping too many and I can switch them out and feel like I'm getting a new mug every few months. I also zoned my kitchen this past autumn as well and it's been so great. I have 2 pantries in my kitchen - one is just a tiny pantry and the other is basically a closet (think a regular sized closet with double sliding doors), so I use the bigger one for my food, and the tiny one is for water, canned/bottled drinks, and food storage containers. Thank you for another great video!!

Mugs! We started a tradition this year and everyone in the house gets to pick one mug for Christmas that is their style and that is all the mugs allowed in the house. We normally only use them for hot chocolate anyways. Anyway next Christmas we'll decide if we want to keep the ones we have or get a different one. My daughter has a dinosaur, my son a spiderman, my husband a iron man and I have a Zelda one. 😊

very practical declutter items that I could relate to, one of my problems is being single, but feeling like I have to keep at least enough for four people in case I have visitors.....

With the pens, I can top that: I can’t throw away gift cards when I’ve used them up. I mean, I have to work HARD to let them go. Subconsciously, I must think they might magically refill!

I let the store throw them out after the cashier and I both know the balance is $0
I keep a few plastic cards to use as scrapers on stubborn cleaning jobs ... they rarely damage anything you scrape and it saves my poor feeble fingernails!

In my home, any plastic lids or shallow lidless containers go to my art/craft room. They are great for holding certain items that may or may not wander before I’m finished

I've found so many "other" uses for kitchen items. Those mugs I would use as pen holders or hold small items in my sewing room. I actually have my sewing scissors in my Dad's pewter beer mug. Reminds me of the holiday to Malaysia where he bought this back in the 80s. He's been gone 18 yrs now. I use Mum's cut crystal dessert bowls for my jewellery and they sit on or in my dressing table. Those crystal divided plates are also great jewellery holders. Plastic containers without lids are great drawer storage. I love to repurpose things to give them a new and useful life.

I store all my “Tupperware” with the lids on and I’m always telling people it will make your life easier if you store plastic containers with the lids on.
No searching for matching lid is a wonderful thing. As soon as it comes out of the dishwasher I put the lid on and if a lid is missing in the trash it goes

1/14/22....1st be sure COMPLETELY DRY....then put lid on smallest Tupperware....then stack into next bigger size + put on lid....continue until all have lids on & are stacked/packed into each other. REAL SPACE SAVER+ TIME SAVER!

I will disagree having a back up can opener is a must.
Get the OXO locking can opener. ($13-15 ish USD) I've had it for almost 7 years. Never had or needed a backup.
@@hollyl5702 I have a good can opener. But we have a backup for our emergency bag, and also take it on vacations so if it gets left behind its not a big deal.
Kitchen supplies are so personal. I only open cans a few times a month so it would be very excessive having two!
I keep a backup can opener and a second vegetable peeler. That way I can put guests to work at Thanksgiving 😁
So funny what you said at the end about Bohemian Rhapsody. I played piano as a kid and that is the ONLY song that I remember. Lol. It was so good. I don't remember song lyrics either. Love your channel. Thanks for helping.

You have a container that keeps pens? Envy! Our cat makes sure that pens in this house are on the floor where she thinks they belong. Under couches or closet doors is even better. (Yes, we keep some out of her reach. But leave one on a table, and it's gone.)
