But I also kind of don't believe that is the type of hate Zha Liying is going through too. I think what some people are trying to say is only, she works hard like everybody else, but just not extra harder like the media keeps saying. The media tries to make her the national model of hard working Chinese classmen. But truth is all actors have to work hard, everybody works hard.
The people are not trying to say she is poor and should stay poor or must work harder than everyone else, they are just saying she is quite lucky. It takes lots of luck and good connections for jobs like these, and they are what Liying received. There is a huge amount of actors if they don't have the same luck and connection, then they don't even get to be a support in tv shows. Let's take a beautiful actress name Li Ke for example, she went through acting school and you might think she have more chances in the industry but she can only be a double for Liying in Journey of the Flowers, not even a support, just a double. Only because she doesn't have connections. Li Yitong is another actress with no connection so she was only a double for a very long time, she was only discovered after she doubled for Liying because Yu Zheng thought she can be just as beautiful so why not let her act too. But Li Yitong doesn't always talk about the years of her sufferings as a double. The media says Liying suffered as a support for 10 years but many people wasn't able to be even a support. She got into the entertainment through a star search game award in 2006, where her talent in singing wasn't good, rather a little embarrasing but cute. The connection through Feng Xiaogang is really good. From 2007 throughout 2009 she was already an actual actress busy in numerous dramas. She plays the supports but worked with very well known stars and put in very significan tv shows. She also did numerous advertisements on tv, a hard thing to get but she done severals. In 2010 she was already the lead actress with a well known actor call Xu Zheng. Because she looked a little plain at that time she couldn't get more famous yet, but her standing ground was well off already. Only a year after, in 2011 she played princess Qing'er and has a very sweet beautiful look, she finally won the audience. It is true she worked hard but at the same time the media is a little too exaggerating that she had no connection, it should be very thankful to Feng Xiaogang. She got a pretty easy route because of her connections compare to the students who went through the frightening exams and years of schooling but ended up with no opportunity. Because the medias always say she had no connections it ddin't make her look good and grateful so some people say she didn't work as hard as the exaggeration but it is not hate. The media has protecting her well, and also promotes her. China sees her as a national model of hard working classmen, it's not true they hate her. You are right that non chinese top stars can escape hate, the haters she have is only the same like every stars, it's not because of her background but after because her fame gets out of handle.

It's not like she went to school for acting so she has alumni network or even a little bit of connection to start with. She didn't have parents who knew the industry or rich enough to buy her way in. She won a talent show and work up from there. I know lots of talented actress with proper schooling didn't get to where she is. Even the most talented person will suffer without a dash of luck. Plus it could be even more than just luck. As talented as an actor may be, you also need to be good at working with people and get them to like you to make connections. As you said connections ARE important if you want to make it. Having the talents to work a room and make the most of every encounter to create real strategic advantage for yourself out of your connections is also a talent many do not have. May be it's because she knows how to judge people well and choose the right agent to help her do all those things. Who knows. You think other actors who have been in the industry for years didn't get the same opportunities to create those connections? If anything, having proper introductions by going to film school should have give them even more openings than ZLY. People don't just "make connections", it is earned as well. There's nothing wrong with having connections when you work hard to earn those connections and make people respect you enough to help you, especially without buying your way in or born into it. As long as you're not compromising your moral code, there's nothing wrong with being smart and use your connections well. It could be luck, but it could just be smart people skill. Nevertheless, A LOT goes into the "hard working" part that is more than just acting work. You don't know those things and it's not like she would bother to explain her life story to you. It's her business. For her to get hate for not suffering as much as others suffer and then, use her background to say it's not fair for her to be this successful bc she should have had to work more is ridiculous. She didn't ask to be made into a national model of hard working classmen. She is just not apologetic of her background. I also think it's justified that people like her gets positive praises for their background because somewhere there's another kid like her born in a poor family can now feel hopeful that with hard work, they can also achieve their dreams. There's nothing wrong with that. There's really no justifiable excuses for haters unless they are hating her on her own merit. She never had any immoral scandals. If they didn't like her acting, that's fine because everyone has their preference, but hating her bc she is too famous for that they think someone like her deserve is just bitter and clearly a projection of personal issues.

Princess Agents was actually one of my first introductions into Chinese dramas and as a result I’ve been a big fan of hers ever since. I 100% hate the ending and agree it will never get a sequel.

The only reason I came to terms with the ending of PA is because I read the novel after that. I had to use google translate on half of it because it wasn't fully translated yet, but at least I got a real ending :-)

Ive watched a looot of her dramas and i do believe a lot of them are like trashy tv dramas, but so easy to watch and so freaking entertaining. She has a very smart and hardworking aura, so her characters are super lovable.

I have watched 90% of her dramas as the main lead but her most outstanding role is definitely the palace ironically which is a supporting role in a movie. Her negative portrayal of an ambitious girl that gets caught up in a power hungry filled palace. Playing sweet everytime can get overwhelming exhausting to the audience like Yang Mi trapped in portraying the same Eternal love character in all her recent dramas!

I've been MIA lately cause I've been busy working. Decided to play this while working and man I just realized I've pretty much followed most of her career. I first saw her in the remake of Princess Pearl and like you, thought she was pretty but forgot about her. Fell in love with her in Legend of Lu Zhen and it's been history since.
I can't believe people would go out of their own way to make fun of people's background and speech. Those are things you can't really help even if you can try to improve it. Also, it's crazy how they married their other self and numerology sounds so interesting.

My all time favorite drama of hers was Princess Agent. She was spectacular in that, and I agree, the ending sucked, but everything in between was WELL worth the watch...especially the relationship between Liying's character and the second leading man, Shawn Dou. It was the only time I had 'second lead syndrome', the dynamic between them was great.

I first saw her in fb. A few clips from princess agent. The wolf part. Then i manage to watch the series. I was really in awe with the drama. I dont mind the lighting effects or the cheap production as they say. I was looking really the execution of the actors. All of them contribute. The fight scenes was amazing. The drama and their characters were so convincing. No matter gow cheap the production is it doesnt matter. The actors matters. I also like the director actually for he able to manage those fight scenes. It is like every chapter is worthy. Im not that fan yet of her. I search her dramas coz for she seems a good actress. I watch then glamorous time，boss and me. that confirms me she is really good. Each of those characters, i didnt see liying, i saw her as lin qian, shan shan and chu qiao. Portraying her roles is awesome. That is what we called a gem in drama series. A rare good actress.

I must say that hard work and luck go hand in hand and it does work with Zhao Liying as well. I got hooked with Chinese drama because of her Princess Agents despite its flaws and all, then I start searching for her life story and watched her previous series and other dramas thereafter.
