this is the first time ive watched competitive pokemon battling, and this was so much more intense than i thought it was going to be

You know, in this format, there is less Kang and Talonflame, but much more Landorus, Thundurus and heatran, so no difference from last year :(
vanillite banana I think Talonflame usage went down a bit because there's less (Mega)Blaziken usage also went down a bit. Lando-T and Thundurus are just great in every format though so I don't think we'll see them go away any time soon.
vanillite banana atleast last year had a little diversity, there was Pachu, Rotom-M and Gothitelle. Not just Thunderous, Landerous, Heatran , Cresselia, a mega and a filler

Nope. People are supposed to make plays that specifically make it so the game doesn't come down to dice rolls. If it does come down to that, you are a subpar battler.

Bob Samuri You could easily use ice beam or twave/tailwind/trick room. Regardless of you situation, there's usually a way to mitigate RNG.

Are you sure about that? what about someone using rock slide every turn and flinching both of your pokemon every single turn until the game ends?
In those type of situations, the probability of getting multiple/many flinches is low. Technically you can prevent flinches by running a poke w/ inner focus or being faster than the rock slider. Outside of that, you can make sure you are in a position where one flinch wont immediately lose you the game.

Massive props to both players, especially the Canadian, showing fantastic sportsmanship throughout. Makes it much more enjoyable to watch, and you actually WANT both players to win, rather than some competitions where you'd be quite happy for neither player to win xD

He would’ve lost in game 2 if the gard didn’t get burned at the end, heatran was only at 60ish health. A single target hyper voice would’ve KOed it. Hard to root against Toler when he won big in game 1 and lost due to a 30% burn in game 2 imo.

Im new to the pro scene of pokemon, sry for asking but, do they catch and train their pokemon as in a normal pkmn game or do they get to choose their IVs/nature/shiny form?
They breed for the IVs (which can be very irritating), they breed for the Natures (which is easy) and they battle certain Pokemon for specific EVs, to help boost specific stats to higher levels. As for the shininess, luck maybe? Masuda Method gone well? One of the two
I haven't been in the scene of tier lists for a while, btu isn't Aegislash Uber? or am i being dumb and missing something?

Explain me this; if Raphael knew that Landorus was Banded into Superpower, why didn't he just focus on taking out Gardevoir first in Game 3 by Super Fanging/T-Bolting on Gardevoir rather than Landorus due to its lowered attack and not doing squat damage on either Pokemon when the battle came down to the last 4 Pokemon?
Because the best case scenario would be I trade Scrafty for Gardevoir, and then I'm stuck with Thundurus versus Lando and I lose the game to timer. Super Fang onto Lando was the right play. Everything I did after turn 2, though, wasn't.

This year's championship was meh imo. The amount of legends being used is ridiculous at least in XY Zapdos was really the only legend seen. Now we have Cresselia,Heatran,Landorus,Thunderus flooding the metagame.
