Are these the best internal mics built into a compact vlogging camera? Is it good enough to use without an external mic? Sound off and tell us what you think!

ZV-1 sounds good, much better than other cameras.
I have an RX-100v and would offer the following, just in case you may want to do some testing on your own. Battery life is short. I used the RX100 with an external USB battery to make sure the camera didn't die on me unexpectedly. What I found was that the camera battery STILL had to be charged up for the external battery to supply power. The camera battery will still drain, but very slowly when using the external battery. Not sure if the power management scheme was changed on the ZV-1 or not, but you need to check. I have 3 Sony batteries and still use the external Anker battery tie wrapped to a tripod mount extension for vlogging or conference calls. I also used the camera in 1080p mode to maintain excellent continuous autofocus and IBIS function, and to reduce power consumption. Again, some of these weaknesses in the earlier camera models have surely been improved on the latest ZV-1, but maybe do some testing for yourself, especially on the battery life and power management.
Good that things are opening up, happy for you on that count, that's for sure.
    Joe

The white fluffy mic is definitely more conspicuous 😆 Thanks for the great video, this is very helpful while trying to up my audio game.

Great video Brian. I nearly bought the ZV-1 last month but the day I was about to pull the trigger, the price went up $50 so I waited to see if it would go back down. Right before it did, they sold out so... I went a different direction. This video has reinfected my brain with ZV-1 desire though. Ok, maybe I'll buy this camera after all. Curse you and your convincing excellence!

It's great, man. I'm having trouble navigating the Sony menu system. It's just as clunky as eveyone says. But overall I'm thrilled. I may pick up a few more.

I’ve owned it for 3 days and I’m super impressed. I don’t find the 24mm wide end a problem like so many critics do. Then again, I’m tall-ish with long arms. The audio capabilities in this camera are so far above other pocket cameras, and even higher end cameras. There are $2000 cameras with terrible preamps and useless internal mics.

An awesome video as per usual, Brian ! 😆👍👍 As ever, I appreciate you for taking the time to create this content. ☺👌
Personally, if I were going for a bare bones setup, I completely agree with you that the audio from the internal mics on the ZV-1 sounds ok.
However, with that being said, I would absolutely save up and buy an external audio recording kit as soon as my finances permitted. 📷🎤🎧
Cheers to you, my man! 🍻

Thanks for all of the info and comparisons you provide. I’m getting started with content creation and just got a vxr 10 mic. I’ll be using my phones camera for now but may look into the Sony camera in the future.

Been using the wireless go since getting this camera, not bad but now I'm testing a lensgo 348c kit and it's just sounding hot even though the levels monitor is well within range. I've gone as low as 7 on the pre amp but based on your final test I think I'm gonna try 1... Let's see how it goes 😊

Hi I absolutely have no idea how it would sound like if I record myself with wireless rode and play the electric guitar. The sound of the guitar should come from adc and my voice from the rode mic on my chest. The thing that let me doubt is, if there will be a lot of string noises (which I’d like to avoid) recorded by the rode go.

Is there a way to monitor the audio with headphones in during recording?

What is your recommendation for audio level for the infernal mic with the furry windscreen?
    Thank you

The highest you can go without clipping. Set it, talk the loudest you expect to talk, and check your levels. You never want to be louder than -6 db or so.

Quite nice internal mic the camera had~ (with noise reduction + processing) btw might be out of topic but what do you think if we use Sony PCM A10 or D10 as preamp or as an improvised external microphone?

    • @AudioforContentCreators
      @AudioforContentCreators  Před 3 lety +1

I did not do any noise reduction or processing on any of the audio in this video. That would have completely defeated the purpose.
As for A10 or D10, I have no experience so I can't answer.
