Addams Family Train Crash Scene (1991)

- In part to celebrate Halloween here’s one of my favorite movie scenes to use O gauge trains, Gomez Addams’ spectacular train wreck from The Addams Family (1991). More specifically a Lionel 18609 Northern Pacific 2-6-4 locomotive with an 18606 NYC tender (switches later to an 18606 NYC Locomotive with the 18609’s tender for the crash scene) and matching Northern Pacific 027 passenger cars. The “diesel” looks to be a Lionel 8807 Lehigh Valley RS-3 with caboose. Gomez’s transformer of choice, the mighty ZW.
All credits belong to Paramount. I own nothing.
“He wore that finger trap for two Years! Mother had to teach him to eat with his feet!”
I love that part
And the combination !
And the password !
And my cigar !
And he slept so well!
The scene where Gomez laughs while looking at the man in the train? SHEER GENIUS, and utter madness. My favorite part of the movie. 🥴🤪
my ringtone lmao
I couldn't agree more. No other reference to it. Just every kids dream made into pure insanity.
The very reason I searched for this EXACT scene...gets me every time
BTW the man at the train is the director of the movie. Fun fact
Very interesting and well done. The little man on the train puzzles me. Is there really a little man on the train or did the director throw that in for fun (some people in comments says it's the director)? Seems like an homage to the Hitchcock films and cameos.
1:41 This should be a meme: a character looks out the window of a train and sees a maniacally laughing Gomez.
Agreed!
Let’s do it!
I know right!
Genius
That’s probably the exact moment that I never understood out of everything in the movie. 😂😂😂. Even thought it’s a meme moment lol.
"He's using the diesel."
"The covered bridge."
"Dead Man's Curve."
Dead Man's Curve is In Clinton RD, West Milford. New Jersey
@@sarilebleu74 I live in New Jersey. Thanks for the tip.
There's multiple in every single state.
Hell, anywhere there are roads lmao
I love how Gomez’s scale model train set can make the whole mansion shake, as if full sized trains were racing around on nearby tracks. Only with the Addams family can that be possible. **snaps fingers twice**
Unless you have a Marx locomotive. Those things... well... they can get kind of... well... loud.
Hahahahaha, as someone who actively collects Postwar Lionel, those things will actually actively shake a house if you don't have adequate sound deadening. If I have a track set up around the Christmas tree, you can hear it from anywhere in the house
I wish my layout would do that!
1:40 Raul's laugh + Director's cameo🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Barry Sonnenfeld made cameos in his movies. He was in MIIB, MIB 3.
So that’s who that is! I was wondering why they included that scene
No is sr percival :v
I swear Gomez must have the magical ZW, I mean he can control the WHOLE layout with that thing
Not to mention the trains somehow get reversed or would’ve run into dead end spur tracks but still don’t crash. I wish I knew what kind of “disappearing” layout he’s got
Probably just a regular ZW, one's enough to run my entire layout and accessories, but then again it's a small layout.
I'd imagine the diesel was parked on an isolated track controlled on one of the handles, then as it crossed over the isolated section onto the main it went over to the same handle as the steamer.
As for reversing, there's probably a loop or a figure 8 somewhere, with Lionel non-derailing switches and the right track plan it's entirely possible to get this sort of action going. AC 3 rail doesn't care about direction lile 2 rail DC, as the inner rail is always hot and the outer rails are always neutral/ground no matter how the track twists and turns.
I prefer having my trains run via a type V for the trains on their own, but I prefer to run accessories separately.
I like to think that he has a magical DCC encoder.
1:41 that evil laugh that Gomez did!!!😂😂😂
While the guy in the train just acts like it's completely normal, which, to him, it probably is.
his fking face 😂😅😂😅😂😅😅😂o😂o😂
@@spiritgirl41192 Fun fact, that's actually the director in a cameo.
It’s so funny when he said “and he slept so well” , like he wanted him to be up all night with insomnia, lol.
If you remember halfway through the movie when Fester comes down for breakfast, Morticia asked him how he slept and Fester said "Out like a light!", which Gomez then exclaims "We HAD to chain you to the bed!".
Also Gomez wasn't getting suspicious until Fester said "How do you take this off!?" referring to the chinese finger trap which set Gomez off even though it was later revealed near the end of the movie that Fester had amnesia which is why he couldn't remember that the trick was his favourite party favour or the combination or the passcode or the cigar etc.
@@GenGamesUniverse Actually, when they asked him how he slept, he replies "Like the Dead!" It's like he thought that's something Fester would say; he's trying to think like an Addams, but still says the wrong thing! That's great writing!
To this day 32 years later. Anjelica's stare 1:54. So drowning.😊♥️
I been using my trains the wrong way, i knew i was supposed to shake the whole house
Lol
THE POLARE EXPRESS
You have to get a Marx locomotive or a Big Boy.
His energy is unreal. He nails this. Great editing too
Born to play Gomez
My favorite part is when the kids say, oh no fathers playing with his trains🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😅😅😅
Poor Pugsley and Wednesday, they must be scared… but not the kind of scared that the Addams family enjoys being.🙁
I want kids one day, just so that when I'm in my basement playing with my train layout, I can start laughing like Gomez and my kids will say the same thing....
When you let anyone under 13 run model trains.
Lol!!
Jason Learakos I got my first model trains at age 6 I learned not to crash them real quick
I had a boss who was middle aged, yet accidentally crashed his model trains now and then.
I started model trains at 5, never had any trouble with them
Sir Topham Hatt gonna be crossed when he finds out about how his beautiful trains crashed into echother
I ask myself that every morning "Shall I be Joyous or Shall I be Damned"
I can't stop laughing at the absurdity of this scene,
Spirit above me Give Me A Sign should I be joyous or shall I be damned
BOOM!!!
The tiny man on the train be like "What's that guy's problem?"
That's the director btw
Or “Next time, I take the bus!”
Human sacrifice
"spirits above me..give me a sign!...shall i be joyous?...or shall i be damned?"...
Spirits above me, give me a sign.
inuyashason81 shall I be joyous, or shall I be damned
Robloxgamer321 *Earthquake*
You shall be damned!
This scene is a great call back to the old television show.
Many model trains were harmed in the making in the making film
Well actually the dramatic end crash scene used balsa wood models as apparently the Lionel models wouldn’t blow apart as they wanted. It truly shows how durable most Lionel trains are
RichardsTrainsAndMore oh ok
At least that’s what I read years ago, I’m sure that scene at 1:59 had many head on collisions to get it right
2:08
We'll
Be
Right
Back
THAT'S A FENDER BENDER!
Lol
My video buffered at this exact moment.
Philip walling lol
On a wheelchair! 😂
1:51 Fester just swimming through the tank and the sonar beep is my favorite part.
A charm of Charles Addams nailed in these movies is not needing words.
I love the look on Morticia's face at 1:54.
“Oh no father is playing with his trains”
Again from the Cartoon
Thats what my kids would say.....i play with my trains for fun of course but if I’m playing with my trains with the doors locked......stay out
I'm the 💯 th like!
His Lionel trains
@@Bondmanproductions respect
What a classic scene!
Gomez sure enjoys destroying his trains!
And he nearly breaks a record on each crash he caused. Let's see if we can make a Gomez train crash count!
Oh, wow! Could this scene have been done any better?
0:40 I like the train horn
Even Gomez Addams must admit that he hasn't outgrown playing with Lionel trains.
I just wish they did the train scenes for the latest Addams Family movies.
@@christophercarey3232 I think the reason they don't use the trains anymore is because the trains aren't from the original comics and the original comics are what's being adapted, not the TV show.
Which Gomez Addams?
John Aston or Raul Julia
And that’s why trains are an expensive hobby
Jack 92 “model” trains
So that People won’t crash into the,
This movie was a perfect homage to both the original Charle's Addam's comics and the old television show.
Which spawned my favorite Super Nintendo game that I play to this day. This movie is a true example of things taking time paying off if you read trivia.
1:42 wen you realize a 2 year old is running the train
Why do i see you everywhere
When you get home after a rough day at work
Then there was trouble! Gordon and Mavis collided!
Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
Luckily everyone died
Sir Thopham Hatt” You have caused confusion & delay!”
xsailor85 gordon & mavis: *ded* 😵
1:40 is sr percival
Two Lionel trains collide with each other and cause an earthquake that shakes the entire house. When it comes to the Addams Family, anything can happen!
When you let your little 2-year-old grandson play with your trains.
100% true!
I would have to go with 1000%
2:07 THAT'S A FENDER BENDER!!!!!
Haha!! I remember that game! Lionel Traintown! Geez I played that so much I completed all the missions, darn wish I still had it :(
Check out my CZcams channel
Will do!
I still have Lionel Traintown
You’re very lucky, mine got tossed out during a house cleaning
Love how Thing is emoting for him with that fist slam while Gomez has his hands full with the controls for his trains.

Just once I'd like to do this but with dynamite like the original series!
Oh, that's suuuuuuuure to end well
be sure to get it stuck in the ceiling like a good golmaz
R.I.P. Raul Julia (1940 - 1994)!
I loved & adored him in the classic film "Kiss of the Spider Woman", he & William Hurt were phenomenal together.
And to think, he was only 54 years of age when he passed on.....he STILL had a lot of life left in him 😢
I'm thinking of taking this and dubbing in the classic sound effects from the 60s "Addams Family" series, like the horns and whistles the model trains used in that show, and that same stock explosion effect each time they crashed/blew up.
Hahaha!! That’s brilliant! I’d love to see a mashup of both cashes, heck you could even combine scenes from the TV show and Film crash sequences together
A terribly underrated film. Lerch deserves a bigger room and bed. Pugsly room filled with traffic warning signs he stole. And Angelica conveys more information with her eyes and face in two seconds than any actor, ever.
A true actor doesn’t need words. And Pugsley’s collection of traffic signs is behind an invisible door to the left of the front door in the game.
Found some pictures online of the trains that were used:

Ive always wondered if Gomez's trains were enchanted and he was actually controlling trains some where in the real world, hence that scene with the guy looking out the window
Can’t have an Addams Family without toy trains, Gomez is a model railroader in a nutshell.
And I'm pretty sure that dumb animated one doesn't have model trains
That 6 chime whistle tho. Soo good
It could be a SOO Line 6 Chime whistle, ATSF 6 Chime whistle or a Southern Pacific 6 Chime whistle
@Aiden Andrews NO ITS NOT ITS ACTUALLY C&O 614S WESTERN 6 CHIME!!!!😠

Or the hogwarts express!
I love this scene a lot! Not only does it have trains in it, it’s funny!
A moment of silence for the Lionel 2-6-4 and shutter diesel
The late Raul Julia is awesome in this movie. Love this train set he owns.
1:59 nasty near miss.
This scene reminds me of an iteration of Victor Frankenstein that I wrote; where he'd conduct a seemingly random and meaningless experiment just to see something explode whenever he was angry. Frankenstein also had a shed where he'd smash up worn out lab equipment to blow off some steam when he was pissed. Henry Clerval was also there to support his friend throughout Victor's long tenure at the university, encouraging the young Frankenstein to feel and be with his emotions so that he can have a clear head for when classes started up again.
While at university; Clerval and Frankenstein met an unlikely friend in the form of a young hunchback janitor named Igor Strautman. Strautman was a genius much like his new friends, only Igor's genius was in medicine while Henry and Victor's genius revolved around chemistry and engineering. Together the three of them came up with the Lazurus Formula and created the monster, that was later named Adam by Igor. The monster was intelligent, well-spoken and aside from a grotesque face and skin color was very handsome and strong...but was also lacking a certain spark and couldn't connect with people well. This eventually turns into ASPD (anti-social personality disorder) as Adam descends into psychopathy.
If I could read that whole thing, I just might narrate it for my channel
Been a fan of 🚂 when I was little and I’m a fan of the Addams family
1:39 director cameo. But also funny as hell. For a man who was dying from stomach cancer Raul Julia really had the time of his life as Gomez Addams.
Good old Lionel O scale locomotives.
Very Good Lionel Trains.
RIP Raul Julia as he was the best actor for Gomez Addams.
Spirit above me, give me a sign. Should I be joyous, or shall I be damned?
I think I actually have a models like that and a controller like his
I have that same loco but it is a 2018 loco and the valve gear is different.
How that look of morticia at 1:55 is not a meme is beyond me…
I love that while he’s seething with rage and suspicion the little hat was still necessary
Raul Julia left this world too early. I could imagine him reprising his role as Gomez Addams a few more times and produce the same amount of energy as he did in this movie and its sequel.
He was going to play him in a third Addams Family film but he died shortly before pre-production began so the film was cancelled.
@MrDHWong1989 I thought they ended up making a third Addams Family movie that took place in the same universe as the first 2 movies, despite Raul Julia's passing. They just recasted all the actors in that movie, with Tim Curry replaced Raul Julia as Gomez Addams.
@@OmnicidalClown1992 They did make another live action Addams Family film (Addams Family Reuinion), but it followed a different continuity and was direct-to-video with a new cast except for Lurch and Thing.
My favourite scene
1:40 Funniest part
I still want to know who that guy was
I don't know who he is.
That’s the director Barry Sonnenfeld
So was it an Easter egg in the movie 🎥 🤔 🥚
Basically so, it was also a reference to the original New Yorker Addams Family comics where they’d depict actual people as passengers inside a Lionel train
One of the best maniacal laughs I've seen in a film.
Lionel Trains. My Favorite! 🚂
I’m now just realizing he’s using Lionel Model Trains!!!!
I’ve written in the description when I posted the video all the Lionel locomotives he uses. I guess nobody reads that anymore...
For the man in the train, it was the day he died. For Gomez, it was Tuesday.
My favorite part is this part. 😜🤪
Luckily, no-one was hurt.
Does anyone recognises the the hand
Thing
Luckily, no one was hurt
The tender actually reads Northern Pacific
It does? Oh thanks for the correction! It goes by so fast I thought it said Norfolk And Western. I know it’s not the 8609’s tender, that engine came with a coffin tender, I guess the set crew used a spare maybe for putting the smoke unit in
The coffin tender read Lionel Lines
Maybe I got my terminology confused, here’s the same model locomotive used in the movie with the original tender
goo.gl/images/q8kxXo
Or Norfolk Southern!
NICE ADDAMS FAMILY 1991 FILM TRAIN CRASH SCENE !!!
That was a really nice Lionel engine set
I love that hard loco chuff ! AND the Smoke!
Unfortunately Lionel Trains don't do that, but to some degree Gilberts American Flyer S gauge trains.
THIS IS LIONEL
I Want a That Both Lionel Trains Steam 8609 & Diesel 8807.
I always play with my trains wrong I knew it was gonna fly of the track
I wonder how much the crash measured on the Richter's Scale, shaking up the whole house like that?
Gomez's train layout is cool!
1:40 always makes me laugh because it comes out of nowhere, makes negative sense, and is never addressed again :D they made an extra VFX shot just for this oen wonderful moment of madness :D
Good Show Old Man!
Me when I play with my lionel polar Express train
I don't want my model trains to crash, They may get broken.
I wish I had a layout like that
I remember my dad laughing his ass off when he rented this and the guy was on the train haha... I was like 6 or 7
01:40 - 01:46 The best part.
"How You Take it Off."
im getting the 8606 from ebay and its brand new im so happy haha
I have two of these 8606 engines and they tend to run fast with a motor that unusually sounds like an 8mm projector. I’d recommend cleaning out the old lube and adding fresh grease and oil once you get it. After that it should be a fine runner
Anyone notice when he says “Give me a sign” it cuts to the semaphore going into the red position?
Edit: also, I’m pretty sure the reason that one of the passenger cars has a Vista Dome even though the official line of cars don’t is because they are actually Williams “Luxury lines” passenger cars, which came with a Clifton in that exact paint scheme
I noticed.
Pugley’s stop sign “collection” 😂
When I’m married and I’m upset about something.. I want to have a layout like this to deal with my stress 😂
0:35
Pugsley: He's using the diesel
0:48
Wednesday: The covered bridge
0:52
Morticia: Dead Man's Curve
Covered Bridge is in Indiana! And Dead Man Curve in Jersey! I think!
