Taking my C-Class for a test drive during summer 2018 after doing an oil change and injection pump replacement on French country roads near Cergy-Pontoise.
Very nice car and comfy to drive, quite powerful even with a naturally aspirated diesel engine, incredible reliability and durability.

Built like a tank and cheap to maintain. Bought mine in 2013 and still have it. W202's engine will last a lifetime if taken care of.
My friend, a taxi driver has 1,5 million kilometers on the clock and it still runs flawlessly.

@@linnamuuf just pikked it up in Braga and drove to Porto. Its a tank and runs like a sewing machine...I need to tighten the speedometer and wash the dust of. That's it. It was a mechanic's car. Paid 1500€ with 400.369k on it. Im happy

I am taxi driver and i drived this car for 10 years from 1998 to 2008 making 1.800.000 KLM with the same engine.
This car is awesome. So amazing to drive. I have one on my parking. It's so powerfull.

This car( Mercedes C class 1994-1997) is amazing. I own one and I can tell you for nothing I will replace it. I own three new cars but this one cannot be replaced.I personally think Mercedes constructors had worked hard on this model which remains the best ever.
the 1st generation c class was a underrated car. In armenia it's amazing how many of these things are still on the road 25 years later. And this one has the revolutionary CDI motor. At the time this car was an amazing breakthrough to have a diesel with more then 100ft/lbs of torque per liter. Believe it or not this car right here actually is one of the climaxes of mercedes benz. A lot of people think in the 70's or 80's but really the CDI was the ultimate motor for mercedes. it was such a breakthrough in technology and performance. Think about it, this little diesel has a high power output per liter then a Acura NSX, or a ferrari and integra type R. Those motors were getting 100hp per liter, this diesel get's 120 ft/lbs of torque per liter. Quiet, economical, down low with hardly any turbo lag.
Innovative, economical, technical but the italian answer in the 90's was the JTD and later Multijet engine which I think it was pretty comparable and had many pro's.
We also have had some of the best engines in Italy to offer around the world very bullet proof.
I bought sach car in 2005 and still have it, I satisfied with this car, very reliable and successful model. One of the best.

One of the best cars I've ever owned. Drove 500.000 km with. Still a pitty that I had to sell it for a newer one.

Many say that it is just an old car but i personally think it is better than the new Mercedes models.
It has a nice feel when you ride in in and that can not be replaced by all these modern cars .
I am not an old person that says only old things were good but even for a teen like me the feel of changing gears and having full control of everything is in this car ,an amazing car.
If you also own one ,please ,just for how much of a nice car this is ,love it and use it.
On my 5 th now I'm old but am aware of planned obsolescence . All to evident in modern manufacturing . Hang on to these engineering wonders ..the dead ones go to third-world folk bless em
@@josephmorris1475 one more thing ,i own one of the last ever produced ,straight from the first owner ,a 2000 Classic model that i have been upgrading with original parts ,i got rid of all of the rust on it and gave it a nice respray ,i am happy that there are more people who love this model as much as me

Get one that has its engine and transmission oil changed frequently and you are good to go

I’m from the USA and these days the W202 chassis C Class is very rare. I did a 6 speed manual swap from an SLK of the same era. I have a 2000 C230 K Sport and it’s a very fun car to drive. I’ve had it for almost 2 years and haven’t had a single major issue.
Love these atmospheric diesel engines. I have bought a Peugeot 206 1.9d and I'm very happy with my choice. 70 CV if you know how to work with its gearbox are enough for most of situations....good test!!!!

Just picked up a c220 off Craigslist it’s a 96. Only problem is the central locking pump in the trunk won’t stop growling. Cold a/c but the center vents aren’t blowing. Other than that she’s a beauty with only 45k miles!!

Hi, you can't adjust the steering wheel in height and also reach on this particular model.

What's the fuel consumption for this Mercedes, and is the car powerful enough without turbo?

The Fuel Consumption with this car is 7L/100 on city, 8.7l on highway and 10l on extra urban so it's not bad for a 1997 car, it's also a quite powerful vehicle even without turbo.
10l is too much for extra urban. I think he wanted to say that 7L/100 on highway, and 10L in city.

Hi, nice video. May I ask how tall are you? I just purchased a C180 W202 wonderful car, except I am 181cm and still can't find the right driving position. The steering wheel is non-adjustable. BUT if i put the seat in a comfortable position for the feet then the steering is too far away. If i put the seat closer then my legs are too "cramped" and my knees touch the steering wheel's bottom. it's driving me crazy. Gonna try some other positions or even to change my steering with an aftermarket one so i can put spacers...
I’m 6ft 1 in and I got perfectly fine I’m my c class. I do have the steering wheel pulled out so my feet can have better movement when changing gears.

Guys, Is this car fast enough for a first car? I was looking for a w203 on a website and I accidentally didn't save the filter for years and w202's popped up too. I found one with this engine that has a brand new looking light creamy brown leather interior and it looks gorgeous and taken care of a lot in the interior. The exterior has it's issues but the price is 1500$. Should I buy it without thinking? Honestly I'm down for driving an older car for my first car and probably keeping it and taking care of it until 1 day it's considered a retro car but I searched up some data on the engine and I know it's realiable but it says 16.3 seconds 0-60 which seems way too slow to me. I don't need a fast first car but I don't want a number higher than 12 seconds for 0-60. Is it really that slow or?

my friend was having one of theese beauty for sale , he say's ( his word) : "this is the most comfortable car i've drive so far " . Is this true ? i mean it's a 1997 car , comfort option was no the same as nowaday.
benz merc i frequently goes on speed way too fast over bumps and potholes that would give me the ‘shit i’d scratch it’ if I’m in a honda or other cars but this car just soaks up bumps without sacrificing handling precision, and the turning radius is SMALL, so parking is a breeze.

Hey man compare to Peugeot 406, which one is more comfortable ?
Hi, I have been driving a 406 for 7 years and now I'm changing to this Mercedes class E 200 which i tried for a week. I can tell this one is way more confortable to drive. But we can't really compare these 2 cars beacause this Mercedes is at a superior range of quality. When it came out it was kind of a luxury car while the Peugeot 406 is more popular, family-friendly and by the way less qualitative (pholstery, accessories, plastics, secondary elements are kind of cheap) but the 406 diesel motor remains really reliable, I can tell I never had any trouble on 200 000 km driving and it stills working perfectly at now 510 000 km total.
@@syno3464 I agree with you, Merc is more luxury especially E Class , 406 is more family. I heard that in terms of comfort , 406 surpass C Class (W202) at that time.

Seing the year 1997 this must be a C220 CDI ? The older C220 Diesel was absolutely terrible with the rotating fuel pump. Not what you would expect from Mercedes-Benz.

i own a 1994 1,8 liter petrol model, i am 1,90cm with a long torso and i have no problems but my a friend of mine who is as tall as you found it a little too tight, you will probably have to test sit in a w202 to find out if it fits for you
