My dad worked for Eastern from 50 to 59. This brings back so many memories flying out on Miami in DC 6s, Connies, and L44 Electra. Turning on takeoff zone and engine check. Then the power up and the jackrabbits would run. I knew at the time I was a lucky little kid. Got to co in the cockpit during flight, and my eyes were bigger than the instrument panel.
Ahh! piston engine aircraft. What a treat to see this! I flew from Hawaii to San Diego on a military version of a DC-7. Was a long haul. Brings back memories. Nice video! Thanks for posting...
What a beautiful aircraft. Seeing this makes me feel old. Shit,I am old. Thanks for a great video. Makes you want to go back. Sure was a different world back then.
Can someone rich please open an alternative airline using old prop liners and trijets? Old fashioned livery, uniforms and service? I don't mind an extra long flight if it has character.
Pilot and aviation manager here; This was actually thrown around between myself and some colleagues from school. We wondered if people would be willing to pay more, abide by dress codes (nothing excessive), and deal with longer flights of it meant exceptional 5 star service on classic comfort liners. Aircraft like the DC-6, L-1049A Constellation, Boeing 377 Strotocruiser, Boeing 314 Clipper Flying Boat, DC-3 and bring with them an experience and class of travel that we just don't have today, but they would be so expensive to maintain and operate today.
Just as fun: was listening to tower comms before Collings arrived there and their Messerschmitt Me-262 announced their intention to land. The tower replied back "You're in a WHAT???" Golden moment.
Fantastic old plane. I still. have vivid memories of the one flight I made in january 1969 (!!) as a passenger in a (Dutch) MAC- DC7-C from Brussels airport to Abadan airport (Iran). In december 1969 I few home from Montreal in KLM DC-8.......the circle was complete..........
She is stuck at the Charlotte air museum with a dead engine. Sully Flew her into charlotte and the engine failed on departure. She has been here since 2013
Awesome vid and sounds!- you've captured the low growl of the Wright 3350's nicely. Great to see the correct camera shutter setting, which allows the props to look natural too!
Oh c'mon guys. Listen to the ambiguity between 01:48 and 02:05. The pilot flying is ASKING whether they have obtained the CRITICAL speeds. The pilot monitoring is calling those speeds in a drawn out call, to appease the pilot flying. Calls "V1" and "V2" should be clear, precise and accurate. What "sterile" cockpit? It has nothing to do with technology. It all has to do with professionalism.
DC7, St Maarten - you must've been in heaven. You lucky, lucky guys!! Just like to add my unreserved approval to the chorus aready expressed. You DO make You Tube a better world...
One of the coolest videos on your channel. An awesome bird at an awesome airport. I'm usually a bigger-and-faster-is-better guy, but man, those DC-7s are just works of art, aren't they? Nicely done!
Man, the "positive rate" call came out really soon. There was only about 10 feet of altitude when that was called out. Not a good thing to do. And the wishy washy call outs were amature. But a cool as hell plane.
Smoke @;17 sec is normal on startup, and every now and then you can get some flames, and even backfiring at times. At night on takeoff with full power you can see the flames torching behind the exhausts.
I love how the plane still has to accelerate just off the runway before it actually can start climbing. What is the V2 (MTOW) on the DC-7B (DC-4 wings+heavier than the DC-7) and how much runway does it need fully loaded?
Why is it older planes have a lower initial climb rate. It looks like they did gear up and skimmed the runway for another thousand yards. You wouldn't see this in an a320 - by the time it's gear up you're a thousand feet in the air already. Better wing design? thrust to weight?

"Traffic is a DC-7, report them in sight." There's something you don't hear everyday!
in what minute?
Lol the 747 is next
FSX
Forgot to mention I was a P&W R-4360 mechanic in the Air Force. C-124 Globemasters. Those engines gave new meaning to the term High Maintenance.
What a beautiful aircraft. Seeing this makes me feel old. Shit,I am old. Thanks for a great video. Makes you want to go back. Sure was a different world back then.
Awesome take off in the fabulous DC7 . Plane buff's dream come true.
I flew on these planes back in the fifties and sixties...noisy as heck, but still loved them.
Can someone rich please open an alternative airline using old prop liners and trijets?
Old fashioned livery, uniforms and service?
I don't mind an extra long flight if it has character.
Well stated. I feel sure there would be quite a number willing to go that route. Keep history alive.
outwestlawns I wish this can happen but in many countries the the FAA or in Australia Casa wouldent let it happen too much safety concerns :(
I plan to do so! Not rich, yet.
I want this too.

You are very kind, thank you!! Glad you enjoy our videos :)
I´m delighted! What a engine sound! What a marvelous take-off! I´d love to fly on one of these.
I'd love to see the expressions on other pilots faces when ATC gives them a traffic alert to look for a DC-7!

Loved watching the props come up to takeoff power. CHILLS down my spine!
It's unlucky that most of us have never gotten the opportunity to fly this wonderful bird!
I flew on a DC7 from New York to London in 1965.
"Windows closed and locked!" I love it, what a gorgeous plane.
She is stuck at the Charlotte air museum with a dead engine. Sully Flew her into charlotte and the engine failed on departure. She has been here since 2013
I'd sell my soul for a flight like this
I really like looking at the old air craft they were built to last.
My dad was a United Captain and flew captain on the Dc-6.
Very welcome, glad you enjoyed it!
Absolute STUNNING !!!! nice work.....
Note the brief fire durning startup. Pretty neat!
HERMOSOS PODEROSÍSIMOS DC6!!!.. DE HECHO YO FUI TRIPULACION DE ELLOS EN LOS 90'S.. COMO MECANICO DE A BORDO!!!
Very welcome! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Very welcome, glad you enjoyed this video! :)
Awesome! Gives you an idea of what it was like to fly in the 50s
Awesome vid and sounds!- you've captured the low growl of the Wright 3350's nicely. Great to see the correct camera shutter setting, which allows the props to look natural too!
Dam, that throttle response is instant!
Brings back my great days working for Eastern Air Lines. Fantastic
Miami, St Maarten and 2 places in PR. You can find the full program details on our website.
So glad I bought this DVD, very enjoyable thank you JustPlanes :)
Awesome vid!. Sounds like Sean Connery in the control tower!
The DC-7. Loved it.
Last of an era.
I love the OLD DC planes :D

Yeah, great Video ! EXCELLENT WITH THE COCKPIT VOICE-over! Wonderful!
Many Thanks for posting.
Regards from Alaska!

I love piston prop planes.
I have flown that departure many times. Too bad people can't see the mountain off the end of the runway which is why you have to turn immediately.
this is a restored dc-7 formerly of eastern airlines... stationed at Opa Lacka executive airport in florida.
Awesome Takeoff and Plane!
JustPlanes your channel is so awesome i like your videos and and you are on the all earth but every video you make is so awesome :D.
Not too bad acceleration. There is some serious piston power behind those windmills.
Fantastic!!!!
Bonito despegue amigo.
Great sounds!
ok........ I MUST BUY THIS DVD! TOTALLY AWESOME!

Love it :) fantastic just beautiful :)
Amazing!
thanks - very nice legended prop planes always great to see,
Legended?
that's wonderful indeed, that plane must be 60 years old and still making money for someone. Mr. Douglas sure knew how to build planes.
Cool...very cool! Question...do the two engines on the left wind spin in the opposite direction as the two engines on the right wing?
top images merci j ai adoré
Just wonder how long fuel will be available for those wonderful old radials?
That's a normal start with fire and huge smoke!? I can't imagine what an emergency would look like.
Excellent..Thanks very much.
great plane, thanx 4 sharing.
THANKS SO MUCH!
Loved it! Had to laugh after "V1".... "CHOKE"...!!!
This just makes me cry
Beautiful
v1 v2, positive rate. Is it normal to call out positive rate so quickly after v2?
Goosebumps.
Surprised to see a DC7 still flying! I have one modell "flying" over my H0-trains on my desk..
1 word : awesome
The power and speed is impressive. Almost like being in a jet.
Fascinating!
beautiful
amazing
Awesome!
Those unique types of airliners were a real treat to fly on! Unlike the "cookie-cutter" type aircraft that's manufactured now!
Way cool!
Engines on fire, literally! ;-)
Great speed there.
the only Dutch airfield situated on French territory...
bienvenue en St Martin, welkom op St Maarten.
What id be willing to pay for a full length vid of this flight. Between opa locka ( I think it oriuginated from) to Puerto rico, then to here.
The full length program is available on our justplanes website… either as a high definition Blu-ray or a DVD-Download.
***** excellent
yamahonkawazuki
Are they still flying today ? Can one go on a tour ??
Nice, I just saw a similar video, But in FSX by jon5700, awesome. good job.
Is it a turbo prop engine or piston?
Awesome

beauty, how many dc-4 to dc-7c are still airworthy?
man that thing doesn't want to climb. I was hoping it clears the mountains of SXM !
How did you get the ATC Conversation? :p AWESOME
Winders closed and locked:)
Ha! lol errrroger
real nice!!
Im getting it!!!
awesome plane
What airline was this?
Like it!
awww fire in the engine at 0:17 what an old lady but it works ...
dat was wel hel gááf.
To what city did you fly? So nice!
\
he takes off from the more risky side, you dont want to lose an engine on this takeoff.
Nice video.
What's the N number? I can't make it out...
That detail would be nice to see in every description.
