Thanks as always to Mick and Peter, we'll see them again soon.
Wanted to say 2 things - 1) that is not the âclicheâ jazz sound, that is how guys who play rock set their tone when they think they are playing jazz. You donât have to go to Martin Taylor for an example of a non rolled off tone pot for jazz guys, almost all of the classic jazz heroes had pretty bright sounds. Wes Montgomery, Grant Green, Kenny Burrell, Tal Farlow, etc. etc. usually the first thing newcomers to jazz guitar are told for some reason is âroll off the tone to get a jazz soundâ and that couldnât be further from the truth. I just wanted to mention that in case someone is watching this and happens to see the comment - donât roll your tone all the way down because of the incorrect stereotype that that is what jazz players do. 2) Thanks for doing this review. Even if you donât have jazz players on your payroll doing videos it is still really nice to see an effort being made and these guys did a good job presenting the products. Also nice is that the es-175 doesnât have 10s on it so we are getting a real representation of the tone with .012s or whatever are on there with the wound 3rd string. I love watching your videos and more of this kind of content would be awesome :)
I'm really falling in love with these DV mark amps as I'm looking to go back to my original start in my guitar journey
Happy workplace. The staff at Andertons are all brillisnt: knowledgeable and and friendly
Not to forget, that they all played tube amps - mostly Fenders.
In response to 1)âŠthis is literally what Mick talks about around 12mins in. He even turns the treble up! That said, plenty of jazz maestros use the smothered by a pillow tone too eg Metheny/ Martino
How true. I love the brighter sounds of the vintage players. Barry Galbraith's sound on many albums, like his "guitar and the wind", Grant Green as you mentioned could be quite bright, Tal, Kenny etc. George Barnes, too. Nice and bright. Big strings, though for the most part. Open tone and big strings is a certain sound that you can't really fake with the tone rolled back and lighter strings, to a large degree.
That ES-175 is sooo beautiful!
Glad you guys are enjoying these new videos. Mick & Peter are great together & hopefully we'll be putting 1 video a week up from them - their show is focused on more boutique products. I'm trying to get an acoustic show organised asap, but we have a bass show organised that will start early Sept, plus the Top Shelf, Sounds LIke, Captain meets etc etc - should be plenty of stuff for you to enjoy!! Oh yeah, and there are those other two that you can see on Chappers Channel every week ;)
+CaptAnderton Early September ? 2016 ? :O
+TheMabarz Oops - Early Dec!
+CaptAnderton Is Dave in the bass section\show? We need as much Dave as we can humanly get.
+Mezurashii5 INFINITE DAVE.
+GaryBloodyOak I'll await the abuse but.... here goes..... its not Dave (runs for cover)... But give the guy we are using a chance before saying anything!
I have to say i'm really enjoying these new Anderton's series. Top Shelf and now Paradiso. Fantastic video's. Please keep them coming!
10:18, the moment Mick fell in love with Peter after that sexy playing haha
Love guitar paradiso! Keep up the good work. Mick and Peter are excellent reviewers, with great playing skills. Its refreshing to watch reviews without shreading and metal riffs because there lots of players that are not into that kind of playing. Cheers
That reverb sounds fabulous. Also you can here the pick scratching the strings clearly, something I usually only hear with really nice tube amps.
I canât believe how loud the little jazz can get. Big sound. Doesnât sounds tinny or boxy at all . Sounds acoustic, mellow smooth and bassey. I was contemplating getting the 12 but this has everything I need. Jazz, blues, Johnny cash anything introspective, sentimental and acoustic sounds great on it. Katana canât do what this can do . I use hollow archtop. The fan noise ? Itâs barely noticeable. Does it make hiss noise? No is it worth the money ? Yes
Great demo from Mick & Peter..hope to see more from these guys :)
Powerful review!!! Thanks!!!
Why is the production in these videos sooo much better than the ones with Chappers?
+Jordan Bannantine because its chappers...
Hawai shirt with grey T-Shirt underneath is EXACTLY JAZZ Guitar Player Style.
Thanx for adapting, Danish Pete. You hit the spot.
The smaller of these amps is amazing. I've used one at home for some months and the sound is great whether playing archtop, semi-hollow or a solid. Really versatile and unbelievably small for such quality and output.
Deep down you know you both are indeed Jazzers!. Great sounding little amps. Loved this Demo.
I've played both of these amps and was pleasantly surprised how good they sound. I almost bought the 1x12. But, then I tried the 1x8 and I thot what a great couch jamming amp. Well, time has gone buy without a purchase. But, I'm now tempted to get the 1x8. By the way, the digital reverb sounds amazing.
Oh man lovely playing, awesome you guys, can't get enough of your videos, such high quality, great duo!
sweet demo lads. thanks! i've been looking for an amp like this for a while now
This is the best show on this channel. NEED MOAR EPISODES NAW!
Cool little Amps and and an absolutely enjoyable video.
Best amp I've bought in my life. Only thing is I wish I could use them at home volume, as soon as you turn the knob to 0,1 it's already loud enough to disturb your neighbors. Still awesome.
Gorgeous. I don't know if the guitar's making the amps sound great or vice versa but it's lovely. Of course, you're playing an ES-175 and that doesn't hurt at all.
I absolutely love how they play! It would be awesome if did tutorials because that's exactly what i want to learn
Just got a DV mark jazz 12. Best ja
zz amp ever. I plugged in a simi, hollow and solid body and they all sound great. One thing I noticed is the cabs have all wood and no metal. The preamp is covered by wood. The thing weighs 22 lbs. no hand truck needed. The sound fills up the whole room and surrounds the ear. Incredible.
These sound remarkably good for what they are. Pleasantly surprised actually.
I remember last years movember show on Guitarist where Mick put a lot of effort for the success of the show and to raise a good amount for the cause but sadly his work didnt quite well pay off and i kinda felt sad for him. But now seeing him more frequently here at Andertons makes me really happy...he really deserves all the good that is yet to come. Great show all in all and also im glad that Danish Pete is the man whom i had in my mind cuz i thougth i had him confused with someone else :D
Don't feel sad! It was a lot of effort, yes, but we raised over ÂŁ1,500 for the charity so it wasn't a total loss. And we made some cool videos in the process.
Both sound great. I have these and others Dv Mark. They play very very well
I have the D.V. Mark Little Jazz and it sounds great. Perfect for smaller gigs - and you can simply mic it for larger - or run direct out. Very nice jazz/blues amp.
Picked up a used DV Jazz 8 and it is a great little home amp for any room. Run a compressor in front of it and it can be pretty amazing even with the tiny little 8â speaker. I will set all frequencies at 5 and love the tone. I find it much quieter than any of my tube amps and do not notice the fan noise. Now I still love a Fender Twin to be honest.
Can't believe the quality of sound coming out of that tiny 8" cab. Didn't even sound that boxy with the Angry Charlie on.
Nice Video. I bought the Little Jazz 12 because I wanted a light amp for jams. It is now my main amp. I thought it to be a bit....muddied, but it works great within a bandmix and actually better than my tube amp with crispy treble. I'm not feeding an Angry Charly, but a Hudson Dual Broadcast and a DOD Carcosa Fuzz and it sounds lovely.
Danish Pete is my hero.
+TastyChevelle Ours too :)
+Andertons Music Co How much is this amp?
TastyChevelle youâre about 3 years early
Thanks gents for these very informative videos. I think considering where jazz is going nowadays we can find ourselves a bit out sorts. On one hand we need clarity, and something that would amplify are guitars as they are. The other side of things is that we also enjoy the pedals just as much as our rocker counterparts and it is very difficult to find a situation in which the clean tone nor the drive sounds are sacrificed. Thatâs just my five cents. These amps seem quite nice and affordable.
Hey you mentioned in the video that these amps are 40 watts (solid state). They are actually rated at 50 watts RMS at 8 ohms. It also has another speaker output so you can run it into another cab, and it can run SIXTY watts RMS at 4 ohms if you do it that way. The amp guts are exactly the same for both the Little Jazz 1x8 and the Jazz 12 (1x12). The enclosure design and loudspeaker are obviously different.
Also, I just wanted to say, I'm a jazz/fusion player and I use the Little Jazz for cleans and a JHS Sweet Tea for fusion leads. The Sweet Tea is a dual drive pedal with a TS808 circuit on one side and the JHS Angry Charlie circuit on the other side. I use a custom made chambered two-humbucker guitar, so the rig on the left is pretty much the EXACT same setup that I actually myself. It sounds FANTASTIC and you guys represented it well except for a few tech specs that were off as mentioned.
I would also point out that the weight on these is ridiculous. The 1x8 combo on the left is 15.2 pounds.
Small gigs, sure! They are surprisingly loud for their size. If you are playing with a loud drummer, just throw a mic on it, or it has an XLR direct out as well.
These new vids are so good...More please !
Pete has some very tasty licks, outstanding playing!
I think about buying a Little Jazz for home recording. Still not sure about 8' speaker, if it can bring enough depth and width into the sound of my solidbody Framus. On the other hand, I've read somewhere that in some cases for recording smaller speaker is better.
But thanks for this overview anyway! Sounds cool :)
Great demo. Thanks.
Great jam... Really good amps...
So glad I chose this amp!
those are insane great. the 8 is almost a champ killer. This one is awesome. Works great on a Strat as well
Nice playing and a helpful review!
is the jazz 12 and the guitar friend clean channel the same thing (same sound and speaker so to speak?) I see you have both in stock
Can you do a DV Mark Multiamp review please? Really want to see a detail review from Andertons!!! THANKS!!!
For jazz fender princeton 65 is my amp of choice but it's heavier but it is so much deeper sounding and touch sensitive
I'd like to see 12 inch one up against JC-120 for example. It sounds absolutely lovely for jazz, and I am considering getting one for the studio. This one seems actually better then JC, but JC is so damn prominent. I just need to see comparison to be at peace.
Ive been shopping for this but the stock ibe tested is made in Indonesia. Are there any other stocks manufactured elsewhere? If so, are there any difference? Thanks!
Great series! What kind of strings has the ES-175 by default (Flat, or Round)?
as profossional guitarist i play since years DV mark jazz amps...NR uno!
Lorenzo, any amp you play sounds jazz. Your hands are jazzy, no matter the guitar and amp you play. Iâm sure you could sound heavenly even with a spark go. Iâll get one of these amp⊠Little or Jazz.
@@juanfranmar THANKS A LOT JUAN!
Love those guitars :)
It's amazing how much better in terms of production these videos are compared to the Chappers videos. They just sound and look so much better, which is crazy because it's the same set!
+Elliot Grey Its just a transition thing - there are about 12 Chappers videos (some up & some still to come) that were shot when we 1st moved in to the new place & had some teething problems. These are all ironed out now, so over the next 3-4 weeks you'll start to see all the Chappers videos come up to the same standard as these ones.
+CaptAnderton Thanks so much for taking the time out to clarify, sir! Love the videos!
I really liked the Jam out, nice one boys
If you are striving for good clean tones and the real sound of the guitar, just amplified modestly, a solid state amp is probably better than a tube amp.
The tubes do colour the sound & if you do not want that, it can be a hindrance.
Plus the weight of a tube amp is significantly worse than a solid state amp, which helps if you are working in various places lugging your own gear.
Really Nice Tone !!
Great video guys! Thanks!
Really Great Job Man â€
Beautiful.
Great demo!
For blues and jazzy stuff, would you get DV Mark Jazz 12, or Blues Cube Hot?
Is there a difference between transistor and solid state amps?
Question. If they both have the same electronics, does the 12 sound louder than the Little Jazz? Any other tone differences?
Not a bad note played in this demo
I was hoping they would plug that Strat in! I played one of these amps with a Tele Elite. It sounded pretty good. Now Iâm thinking of getting one. The price was $499 at Guitar Center here in Cerritos, CA.
Gitaa A Did you buy it?
can you do a demo of the dv mark little 250 gh?
Peter is such a good player. is there anything he can't play... just a lil man crush no biggie ^_^
+andyraven He can't Djent ;)
+CaptAnderton brilliant!
+CaptAnderton You watch this space dude ;)
+CaptAnderton He can't djent...yet :D
+CaptAnderton thats all good! Bea can do all the djenting! and Peter can do everything else!! :) i bet a jam with Peter and Rabea would be out of this world!
whats the brand of the lead cables? cheers!
Anyone know what mics are used in this video?
Is "hum" when reverb knob is more than 12 common in this amp?
Do you guys know if these amps are going to be discontinued??
The blonde se 175.. is a standard model/ custom shop?
whats the song they play at the end?
I would have loved to have heard these with P90s rather than the full humbuckers, still lovely though
These are notably superior videos from Andertons
Hello, would you say the Little Jazz is enough powerful for small gigs (cafés, bars, small jazz clubs with 100-150 people in the audience) ?
and can it be quiet enough for bedroom practice?
Anyone know how the bigger amp sounds with a strat ??
What was the first jazz song that you played?
Has the little jazz been updated recently? On recent pictures I can't see any fan.
I did some research. Newer models still have the fan, but built inside. People say it's a lot quieter.
Peter, you're happy? now you have to do a video on your own channel to show us that beautifull chord progression you do at the beginning of the video !!!
Hi Phil. The chords are from a The Beatles song called Till There Was You. But I will happily make a little video on my channel when I get a moment. P
+Peter Honoré oh, I did not notice it. No need then :-P tanks for the answer
Question do anybody know what he was playing on 2:38 or do you have the tabs on what he was playing
Nobody here is playing from tabs. Forget tabs, they wonât get you anywhere. What he is playing is right in front of you - if you want to learn it, use your ears instead of expecting someone else to do your work for you.
Great demo superb playing but Pete's shirt will have to go.
+James Robertson Pete says never :). Also, there a more plans for shirts like that in the future we are sure :)
+James Robertson I disagree. Everything should be wearing Hawaiian shirts. Amps, guitars, the walls, everything.
+TastyChevelle If it is good enough for Tom Selleck its good enough for me :)
+James Robertson Homophobe.
Pete's shirt absolutely has to stay!
The part Pete played at 13:00 sounds like something from Last of the Summer Wine đ
At 4.04'' you play Asturias, Patria Querida :D
Check it.
Nice and informative video, as usual. Obiously, you enjoy that thing.
Thanks.
Where can I get this amp new without going to Guitar Center??
+Gitaa A Check DVâs website for dealer in your country.
you're both so funny. greetings from spain!
Anyone know what year the 175 Pete is playing is from?
Newer one
I wish they'd also switch amps to really compare ...
what model is the yellow guitar ?
richard gallardo Gibson ES-175
I'm almost sure Roy Buchanan played some simple solid state Fender amps back in the days. I mean no digital fiddly-diddly gimmicks, just straight solid state amplification. I'm still hoping for a comeback of this type of amps. Probably some companies still make these. Orange?
Roy Buchanan favoured a Fender Vibrolux, a 2 x 6L6 tube amp. His tone and whole playing style are really about driving a tube amp. He wanted the amp running flat out and typically faced the amp backwards to cut down some of the volume and beamy top end. All of this really indicates that he would not have chosen to use a solid state amp.
Strange question for you MICK do you do voice overs i swear I heard you in sainburys the other day đ€đđ
I'd never seen a gold 175 before... Quite sexy guitar!
Sergio Mallorga its not gold, its natural. Thats the color of maple.
pete bro awsome review where can i get one of those shirts
It's an H&M special ;).
I'm not in the loop can anyone tell me why Mick is no longer editor of Guitarist magazine I did notice that Chris is now
editor of Guitar and Bass magazine any more info out there thanks
I am also enjoying these two immensely.
Hi Doug, I left Guitarist/Future in 2013. After nearly 16 years doing guitar magazines I was kinda bored and wanted to work for myself. So I left and started my own business, part of which is working with Andertons both in front of, and behind the camera in terms of production. I wish there was a more exciting story that I got fired or something, but I just left because I wanted to move on. As for Chris, he got offered an editorship so he took the opportunity. I still work with Guitarist and Total Guitar from time to time - great friends there. Cheers, Mick
+Mick Taylor Thank you Mike for your reply , I have seen you popping up from time to time and really enjoy your reviews and playing skills ,
Of course being part of the review team of Andertons is for me heaven love your reviews and hearing you play as I am a supporter of Anderton scenes 2013 and alway on the look out for more gear ,I like to wish you well for your future .
Mick ! 3 different shows in one week ? :D
3 good ones
what was the signal chain in this/what microphones? look like ribbons?
I want to see Mick and Peter demo the Roland Blues Cube. Any plans for that?
We should do it alongside a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, no?
Mick Taylor I would like to see it with a '59 Bassman since that's the amp it's based on. Hot Rod Deluxes and Blues Deluxes don't sound anything like a Bassman. People will attribute the differences they're hearing to the Blues Cube being solid-state which is unfair. The Blues Cube against a Bassman would be a much more fair comparison since you can hear it side-by-side with what it's actually trying to do.
Blimey, okay. As a big fan of Bassmans of all varieties, this should be fun.
Both so young.
You guys are jazz guys, whether you like it or not. your interplay on the out-jam was phenomenal. You could play upscale restaurants with chops like that and make a killing jus' saying
I sure would liked to have heard the full hollow through the little 8"
what happened to Gibson Memphis I want a ES 175 and can't find them anywhere anymore besides vintage guitar stores where they cost 8 quadrillion dollars which I'm short a couple qaudrillons sooooooo yeahhhhhh thanks I thought they were just downsizing not giving up ???????
Lucille to play jazz?
They buzz like crazy !
