Neat video. I’m due for a drill press upgrade and that one has been at the top of my list.

Did anyone else notice the table flexes when drilling? (01:06). Is that common for drill presses? And the hole saw appears to have lots of runout/wobble (01:33). I'm shopping, but didn't expect to see that on a $1500 drill press.

It is common in drill presses. Rob was also demonstrating that running at a slower speed the bit will still cut, but not at an optimum performance, thus the tendency to push harder. As far as hole saws, they aren't exactly precision cutters like a much more ridged forstner bit. They typically are screwed on to a mandrel, often with a drill bit center. Many of the factors at play there aren't 100% perfect. But there is almost always runout when drilling. In machining aircraft parts, this becomes much more important than in the majority of woodworking, where it isn't often a cause for concern. If a drill press tables minimal flex is problematic to the work you intend to do on it, you could look into a Bridgeport for solid support.

I'm considering either this Powermatic or the Nova Viking. I'd love to see Rob do a similar video on the Nova? Thx@@rockler
