- Free - The Stealer WITH interview. Complete clip
Footage is from the Swiss TV show ‘Hits A Go Go’.
Originally broadcast in Switzerland on December 10th, 1970.
Broadcast in Germany on December 16th, 1970.

Many thanks to them.
Paul Rodgers is in fine form, and Simon Kirke pushes the track along like his life depends on it. Sadly, it has the strange 'chord' sequence in the middle rather than a full-out blast from Koss (no wonder he felt he was getting squashed). I once asked Andy Fraser about this, and he said he had absolutely no idea what possessed them to put that in the song there, replacing the blazing solo. Lovely to see Kossoff smiling however. Absolutely outstanding.

what a singer! he's the greatest imo.
Definitely one of the greats, for sure.
@@BigBri550 THE great 👍
The Voice, numero uno, number one, Mister Paul Rodgers
That voice! Fantastic, and he's still going strong.
Amazing, never seen this before. I was so lucky to see Free in '70 .
Brilliant Band, I had the pleasure to see this fabulous band as well Kossoff was amazing as was the rest of the band, Paul Rodgers has got to be the best vocalist from the UK
Saw free in Croydon Fairfield halls in 1970
Me as well!!
Watched them at Viccy Hall Stoke that year brilliant gig
One of the tightest bands in rock.
🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Brilliant
agree, 100%
The free! R.I.P Paul Kossof
Now that's a proper Band
These kids had so much to show us back in the early 70's but fate tragically dictated that that wasn't to be, their music still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up over 50 years later 😍🎶🎸🎵
Paul Kossof was an amazing (x2) gi tar player in an amazing band! R.I.P. guys! FREE still rocking in 2024! 👍❤
Let's get some free revival up n ready , bad company kick it but get some free concerts, Jason Bonham, Joe bonomassa and Paul Rodgers, talking wilkenfield
Absolute Classic Song .
Wish those days were here again !!!
They're coming back slowly but surely, check out that band called Feel.
Good stuff. Paul was excellent in his vocals. Free ROCKED!👍🎸🥁❤️
Free sounded absolutely fantastic, I just didn't care as much for their material.
You said it, man. Paul Rodgers had the voice for it. They even got the Swiss rockin.
The greates Rock singer all time. 🎸
There's no such thing
Paul Rodgers and Steve Marriott. In that order.
@@dr.krinkleweldon5934 opinion
Andy Fraser, outstanding as always.
The Boss 😎
Andy Fraser, so young and such a talent
Amazing song writer and bassist!
His playing on Mr Big still amazes me.
R.I.P. Andy Fraser.
My favorite band❤
Magic Band ❤
The greatest voice of all time
Paul Rodgers in the first line of rock singers.
And frontmen
@@tizianalancia7679 cannot fault you there. nobody comes close.
@@morrisanderson3180Steve Marriott comes close
Always intrigued by the substitute chords Kossoff used. Not following the crowd at all...such a realised sound for a group of teenagers. Amazing band.
Everyone talks about in the Key of Keef, but the harmonic Chords of Koss hit you in the feels!
@@ElGordo1959 Certainly. But what I would add is that this is what Keef, Koss and many other great musicians have in common; their music goes straight to the heart. The blood runs a little faster when you hear the opening riff to 'Rocks Off' or 'The Stealer.'
And still many guitarists argue about how he played them.
@@scaryfakevirus A good deal of it is on film. In one instance, an entire set.
@@benw-king3380 Yes I'm sure it is but it's the chord voicings I am referring to. Like the A Major in All Right Now, no one can make it sound the way he does.
So excellent!!! Free we’re so great!
What a find!, never seen this clip before.awesome stuff. Thanks.
This is fantastic!! Thank you! Live Free footage is GOLD DUST!!
Slow, heavy and funky. Lean and not too dense a sound, so everyone can get their licks in.
Paul Kossof knew all the strange chords
So does guitar George.
Wow what a find. I have never seen this before and it shows just how fantastic Free were as a live band.
Keep them coming.
I was too young to see Free - born too late !
Did see Bad Company on their debut tour in '74 at the sadly now gone , Guildford Civic Hall , and they played The Stealer
Not the same as Free , I know , but to my fourteen year old ears it sounded pretty good
Tickets cost a shocking 90p - those were the days !!!!
Existentially yours........
I saw them in 74 to at the Newcastle City Hall, my first ever concert and one of the best. Paul still has The Voice where sadly many of his contemporaries and even those that followed him have lost theirs. No 1 in rock in my opinion.
Who would’ve known the legend being born. Raw. Ballsy. Classic
They Are No1 Unsung UK Hard Rock Band❤They Are Great As Such As Led Zeppelin
Free were a class act. Zeppelin? Meh!

What a fantastic band that had their own unique sound
Wow! What a find. I have been a Free fan for over fifty years. Probably one of the greatest talents to come out of the UK ever. What an outstanding band they were in every respect with Paul R being the finest singer of all time imo. Koss was brilliant and set standards others can only ever hope to reach. Frasers' punchy bass lines were incredible at the time and Kirke kept the whole thing driving along with such a solid beat. If you don't know this band then suggest you seek them out and love what you find!
Saw them live 1971 Melbourne Australia. Fantastic. Manfred Mann Deep Purple were on the bill,Free were the lesser known of the 3 bands, they were all great on the night Free were the best.
@@michaelrose3101
I'm in Melbourne..
Did you see my Dad.
Mister Manfred... 💃💃🙏
@@michaelrose3101 Saw them in Sydney '71 with Manfred Mann and Deep Purple. Toss up with Free and Gillan Deep Purple as both were definitely at their best.
@KevinHallSurfing Certainly were, l was only 14 at the time, all 3 bands were great, l walked away thinking Free were the best. Deep Purple were fantastic and the biggest band of the 3 at that time.
Really???? You like them very much but in no way can they be called the best.
I've been listening to Free since1971. They were my favourite group in the early 70's amongst many of the all time greats. A fantastic time musically.
The bass is nice.
Tragic that Paul Kossoff died aged just 25. They were such a great band. Andy went on to pen a number of hits for other artists.
The older I get, the more I admire and appreciate FREE. They were the real deal! A totally organic rock band from top to bottom. They made an earthy sound, untarnished by technical wizardry.
Best Nite out would have been seeing Free then Thin Lizzy in the same Venue . Nite Complete The Altimate
He simply is the greatest rock singer of all time - everyone in the industry knows it - his ad libbing is just so powerful. Great clip.
Who ? Graham Bonny ?! 😃
I think I’d give a slight edge to Steve Marriott but Rodgers is amazing
A very infectious and nasty groove!
I saw them at Southampton University and at the Isle of Wight festival in 1970. They were one of my favourite bands. Paul Kossoff was a great guitarist. Paul Rodgers was and still is a brilliant singer.
Heavy stuff! Paul Rodgers....wooooo! What a vocalist.
They are all amazing.
WHAT A BAND AND SO YOUNG WOW
Saw them twice in my home city of Sunderland in ‘69 and ‘70 they were an incredible live band.
Rodgers is simply the greatest British rock singer of them all.
Paul kossof another great loss…
Koss's chording.....something else. 😎
Andy Fraiser, the greatest
Absolutely incredible band !!! Adored their music then - and still do almost 60 years on.
This recording is great as you can pick out every single perfect note from Andy Fraser’s bass. Magic!
If Rodgers was the heart of the band, and Koss was the excitement, Fraser was the SOUL of the unit, with that unique funky approach to Blues/Rock! Way ahead of his time.
The ONLY reason that Stealer did not quite match the success of All Right Now, was the lack of a soaring solo from Koss - but what a brilliant song !!! Happy days.
Just perfect 👌
Pretty sure I had that blouse back in the day.
It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest. 😂
Absolutely great!
In my opinion, Koss really was the best.
Brilliant bass lines
Our finest 🇬🇧🎼
Thank you!!
Paul Rodgers definitely the greatest rock singer, the legend
Saw Free in Bradford 1971 a great night
Awesome seeing so much footage of Koss. Thanks heaps for posting ❤
Tons of sobs 💯
💕 ✨️ Tak skal du have! RIP Andy and Koss 💕 ✨️ 🙏
One of THE bass lines.
Ich war mit 8 Jahren großer Graham Bonny Fan, toll ihn hier zu sehen !!!!!
Mit 18 dann aber eher free Fan

What a band great playing and musicians and of course Mr Paul Rogers still great today 👍
And Paul Rogers is a Middlesbrough local lad along David Coverdale. Middlesbrough (UK) has a lot to celebrate in the world of ROCK !
Don't forget Chrs Rea all from Cleveland,😊
So glad i came across this! just shows how good they was. One of the 10 groups that i wished i had seen, only got as far as Bad Company
What an amazing band that was. Mighty hard to get noticed when you have a singer that's that good, BUT. As good as they all are, I have to say a word for Andy Fraser. What an utterly unique bass player. Why is he not acknowledged by the bass community? He was so different. It would have been an entirely different band without Andy's bass playing.
Andy Fraser was a fine songwriter too.
Darn good singer too. I have (one of?) his solo album(s).@@portcullis5622
Didn’t get to see Free, but did see BC, The Firm, and PR guest appearance with Trans Siberia Orchestra. I really like just about everything he has done.
Excellent Paul and band

Yeah I love these old videos, guitar, no pedals plug and play, look at the kit Simon Kirkes playing
..einfach nur gut..
Straight in the pocket. Brilliant.
Woah this drumming is reminding me of Chuck Biscuits
Поль Коссофф отлично играет на гитаре
He was an excellent, unique guitar player and he’s famous for his ‘vibrato’.
Listening an interview with Paul Kossoff I’ve known that Free supported Cream during their last tour and that one evening they saw Ginger Baker and Eric Clapton come into the theatre to see them play.
Kossoff said he felt honoured to see Clapton coming backstage to meet him and then ask to show him on guitar how he could play that ‘vibrato’
Loved this👍 But how often do we see the results of a clueless live vision mixer unable to get a proper shot of the lead solo?
Good ol' Koss', well out tune.
He's not. He never used the same tuning playing live as he used for studio recordings.
Missing the point…he was WELL out of tune…😅 then he wasn’t…..miraculously

Brilliant Band …… Just name a modern band who could use this small amount of equipment (especially drums) and get such a ‘Full On’ sound 🎤🎸🥁🎼

60, can't remember when Free was'nt in the "collection",
this performance is cool to see, seen a lot of this time period vids of them. strikes me in this particular vid that
"Dem boys was "jacked"....just sayin.
The "Free" self titled album Is my go to when I'm in the mood for hearing them, if you're young or just learning about them find it....Mr Big..you better watch out!
Puffa puffa rice😂 love it.

koss at his best
I keep wondering how Andy Fraser can be SO overlooked. I mean, Paul Rogers... my favorite singer of all time. Paul Kossoff... gone way too soon, and widely admired. But Andy Fraser? Good golly, he was driving this groove. Free fans from the beginning knew he was a great bass player, but every time I see a video of them from their prime, I am amazed by the way it revolves around Andy Fraser's solid groove. It's almost like he was playing lead and Koss was playing a kind of "harmonics" on top of it. Of course, Simon Kirke was of the same caliber as the rest of them, but in a band where Andy Fraser is kind of a mere footnote to many people, it is easy to be overlooked. It was kind of amusing though that nobody wanted to be interviewed, but the announcer referred to Andy as "the leader." That might indicate what his band mates thought of him... I dunno.
I resent this band for recording Alright Now. I got so sick of hearing it on the radio for the next twenty years.
Get some therapy
NO. He's absolutely right. I love Free. One of my favorites of all time. But that song so clashes with the rest of their repertoire. At this point I hate to hear it. The only thing that saves it is Andy's bass part.@@julianp4787

Andy is the leader?
This statement became a frustration,
I can feel it expressed in Paul Rodgers' vocals!

It's so raw and it shakes my heart so violently!
I have loved it for 30 years now!
No frustration at all, A. Fraser was the founder, along with Rodgers.
Did Andy Fraser give the "German Salute" to that beardie guy introducing them to the audience? lolololol
RIP Paul Kossoff, and Andy Fraser. Such a terrible waste. Paul would have been one of the guitar greats, and Andy's bass playing [Mr Big live] was fantastic for such a young guy. I bought this single when it came out. I couldn't believe it didn't chart, it was better than "Alright Now".
Simon kijken best drummer!!
