I had mixed feelings after I watched this.
But after some time, I think this is very well made. Extremely well made in fact.
    A. I love how it shows Sumeet Vyas as a normal, even loving guy. It's easy to demonize people if they are overall bad. But he is shown to be a nice guy. That shows that even so called 'nice' husbands do it. Just because they have been conditioned by society to think sex from wife is their right. Even if they don't consciously think it, they subconsciously believe it. Not only does he not ask for her consent, he actually ignores her 'no'. By not showing him as an overall bad guy, maybe they're trying to say it could be anybody.
    B. I liked how they showed the girl's reaction. What I understood was that immediately the next day, even she doesn't want to believe what happened. She's in denial state. After all, it was her husband who did it. But only after she got the strength from surrounding people does she have the courage to first confront it herself, and then confront him. Weeks later.
    C. I also very much liked that Sumeet is shown very nice and caring in the start. But in the end, he does tell her what and what not to do, and gives the reason as 'I am your husband'. He is in fact misogynistic. Just not the blatant kind. Many urban men are like this now. Where they think they're supporting equality and they think they're 'evolved' but deep down, they're actually not. They're just as worse.
    D. The best touch I liked was that the next day, she said she liked his daal, even though she clearly didn't. Very subtle way of showing she was actually scared of him. She was in shock of what's happened.
Maybe I'm reading too much into it but this is what I took away from this. I quite liked it. Kudos guys.

So what did courts did !?
Judiciary, executive and society are here Just to mock and watch men fighting their struggles. You counted so many situations where men can file the case and get relief but it doesn't work. A. We actually don't know how normal/not normal she is the next day, because we don't get time with her alone. Even the two of them together barely have any time. It's literally just the next morning and he is simply driving her to work.
      B. I rewatched the initial part and I don't think she is normal. She is clearly calling him out (kya kehti? Tumne mujhe maara?) when he thinks it was an accident. So clearly their idea of the narrative is different already. Also the 'english movie dekhke Rambo bann gaye' part hints at him going for it without caring for consent. She sees it as that behaviour.

We have two grown up sons. Both have had multiple relationships, but refuse to commit. It saddens us, for all of those girls were quite nice. I am from a different era (and a different culture) causing me to struggle with my children's outlook on this cherished institution (of marriage). Unfortunately as I get more exposed to the new trends and the new 'values', I see my sons' point of view. I shivered watching the film, not because I have never seen something like it, but because this film is from home, and I had always thought this to be a western sickness. I shivered reading some of the comments (obviously posted by some well educated, smart, but 'this generation' people). I have found new respect for my children's desire to stay away from this ugly mess. And yes, I will kiss my wife when she wakes up tomorrow (she goes to bed early - always had) and thank her for the last 44 years (without pepper spray).

I am a woman and yet I dare to mention the following:
    1. relationship is really fragile, and hence there needs to be scope for mistake.
    2. in this very video, while arguing at the end, she threw cushion at him(what if that was an iron rod or glass or the guy started throwing things at her)
he had a point which she didn't care to listen(SUNO) as she was in a different state of mind.
    3. Slapping, domestic violence, and martial rape is a reality however, in the day to day normal life of a husband and wife, before having sex we don't take permission nor expect one to take.
    4. when she said No, he didn't listen, that doesn't means he ignored her consent or pushed her forcefully.
My concern to all the feminist, what had happened to us(women)was tragic and women are still suffering, and we need to voice out. But stop creating ruckus out of everything, you are the same group who calls out for Intolerance growing in the country ever since Modi became PM and that should not happen.
on the other hand..you are promoting Intolerance in the house or normal couple(and adjustments are part of any relationship -mother father brother boss colleagues etc
She should have voiced out and discuss with her husband regarding the slap and the rape(as per her) and if she thought it's not acceptable to her could have filed for divorced, and mutually parted her way.
rather than being acting normal infront of him for 2 weeks and in two weeks he had no idea that their opinion differs as she was acting Normal. please blame him as He failed to read her mind.
and then goes to women empowerment group, got brain washed and speak their language.
Chalo apke kehne pe hogaya divorce, fir kya, do these group comes when u being judged at the office post divorce, or do they help financially when everything u have to Manage on your own and what about the loneliness and not being able to go to other man coz we still love 90% of our husband but due to his 10% mistake we are parted.

It is not all that simple, an abused woman will not speak up so easily...Not sure what the director of this movie had in mind while making this movie... the reality of an abusive relationship is very different...Support the first half of your comment, but rather than saying, who will support her, build her support....don't encourage or drive her through fear her to stay on in an abusive relationship...No human deserves to be demeaned like that. India is a looooong way off from knowing how to support women in such situations....sometimes her own family does not support her. There is no point in calling out intolerance if Domestic violence cannot be eradicated from every Indian home...And the truth is that sometimes, not as many as women, there are men also who are abused.

You are interpreting the idea so wrong , the short film clearly portrays domestic violence
Are you actually stating that "in our day to day lives husband and wife"DONT ASK for consent ? Husbands and wives have sex in their day to day lives only and everytime you need to ask each other if they are in the mood or not ? What is the wife was having a bad day and was not in the mood to do anything but THE HUSBAND DID WITH HER ANYWAY what do you call that love making ? Between two individuals, one is not even ready to have sex and you being one wants to so you have it anyway!! That is RAPE , all rapes are same , be it marital or any rape you cannot say that consent is not important.
And the fact she did said a No , he still did
And it is clearly clearly portrayed that he was ignorant , in the beginning only when the wife entered the car , she said something and he said "You said something? Maine SUNA NAHI"
and when she does not reply, he does not even care to ask again to know what she had said !!
He was not deaf, he was ignorant and in that ignorance he thought it was somehow okay to treat her like that. Reasoning out the punch and believing state

You cannot help her unless she lets you help her. I am not just talking off my hat...some of us have lived experiences. and just learning to stand on our own feet again. This is the same BS everyone tells. Just because you're telling it differently doesn't mean you have a point. She needs to come to terms with the fact that her husband hit her. That's why she took time. Her reality is changed. She can't wait for her husband to hit her, and when he does, start to blame him and readily walk away.
Usually ignoring someone's no is the same as not taking consent.
Until she confronted him he's not bothered by the fact that he hit her. He's reasoning it as accident. That itself is ignorance right there.
If there needs to be adjustments in all relationships, then why don't we let our brothers or sisters hit us at any chance they get?? Let us adjust to that also. If adjustments need to be made, then why don't women hit men and ask them to adjust for the sake of relationship??
      It's unacceptable right?
Because, hitting someone is demeaning them and disrespectful. Please don't blur the boundaries. Adjustments does not mean not talking about the issue and acting as if nothing happened.

He made a mistake. He should have made sure of her consent. But instead of confronting him and sorting it out between themselves she goes and character assassinates him in front of everyone by falsely accusing him of hitting her!! Two wrongs make a right? Cheers to feminism.

You realise not only did he not ask for her consent, he actually denied it. She said no, he did it anyway. And also punched her in the process. Like he himself said it, that's rape.
Imagine being that girl. She is scared out of her wits. Her husband has raped her.
And in the start of the story you see that even she can't completely contemplate what exactly happened. Only after talking to similar women does she realise what actually happened to her is extremely wrong and she needs to protect herself.
She doesn't know how he will react when she confronts him. He may hit her even more. He may rape her again. She had to talk to others before she could even get the strength to confront this guy.
And what character assassination? How is it character assassination if it's fucking true? Falsely accusing? HE ACTUALLY HIT HER DUDE. Did you not understand that? She should keep suffering in silence and possibly be hit and raped again, but God forbid she reach out for help?!

@@anilatarannum You are open to interpreting it how you want. From my point of view he didn't hit her intentionally nor he raped her intentionally. That's why in the end he is devastated to know that she said no but he wasn't paying attention. That's why the film is titled 'suno'.

@@kaushiksaha5671 There is also a running theme in the movie which shows that he is not at all paying to any of her concerns. He only starts caring once she tells him that she went for the support group meeting. She is not trying to assassinate his character she just wants him to listen and the only way she can get his attention is through some form of collective action.
