Keep your drag little loose, you are fighting with fish too hard as soon as they strike. Let them run with the lure for few seconds and then starting reeling.
It's about fish he going after. Those rock fishes are quickly goes to the rocks and break your line by scratching on rock . So it's ok to keep the drag tight and reel quick
In Hawaii we catch octopus ( we call it tako in Hawaii) by poking a three prong spear (you can even use a stick)in the tako hole just to play with it and it will grab onto the spear with its legs and you just grab the legs when it’s on the spear and pull it out.
